Anthem devs have been largely silent for the last several weeks, but it seems they are still working on the game as evidenced by today's surprise update. Most notably, today's patch brings three Emerald Abyss Legendary Missions on board alongside a number of tweaks to creatures, Javelins and strongholds as well as a number of bug fixes.

    SURPRISE! :P

Honestly, it reminds me so much of how Andromeda was handled. Lots of talk before and right after release. Then....nothing. With Andromeda, it meant its death. With Anthem, I'm betting on F2P.

My goodness. How much more paint by number can they make it?

The best approach for the game going forward is silence and mega patching, as with No Man's Sky. It would take so much to bring people back.

Anthem was the most fun demo I've ever played.

    When will Anthem be f2p?

It did have a fun start but the decisions they made have me baffled. I hope it's not another Andromeda with them just milking the title until the next thing comes along.

I should add that legendary missions barely even count as content (assuming that you meant legendary missions and not legendary contracts).

There is no reward reason to do them, they aren't part of the game's farming loop. And they don't even have daily quests. Yes, wrap your head around that. An entire alleged endgame mission type doesn't have daily quests.

I'm not betting F2P..I think EA will shut it down rather than go that road if this intensive silence/mega patch cycle doesn't turn it into Warframe or see a recovery like FF XIV ...I said it other places and I'll say it here..I got what I paid for out of it so I'm not going to say it's bad, just like overall I never had a real problem with Andromeda ..but it isn't one I'm going back and playing every week with my backlog project in full swing.

Free to play are for games that normally charge a $15 monthly fee. They fail, then switch to F2P and charge $15 a month for premium account.

Anthem will have DLCs and Expansion add-ons.

    You're betting wrong!

The game is available for $25 (with DLC) yet I still hesitate to buy it remembering how EA/BioWare has used SWTOR as a ransomware to extort additional $15 from me after F2P re-launch (even though I've purchased the game for $60 at launch).

Anthem going F2P during summer/autumn is a real perspective so I expect them to try pulling the same crap as they did in SWTOR: lock out high tier equipment and in-game money and then demand $$$ from current players to re-enable functionality they had previously.

on xbox number of players is lower than fallout 76, it is lower than 2500 players which fallout 76 has, anthem also dropped out of first 50 xbox games im terms of number of players, unless it has a lot of players on pc and playstaion, it does not look good for anthem on xbox.

I really doubt they will make it F2P tbh, if the previous EA earnings call is to be believed, they are going to keep their focus in their online subscription model 'Origin Access Premier' and the like, so for better or worse, Anthem fits well in that model so their commitment to keep supporting the game might come from there (because this dead horse it's still usefull at least as filler material to persuade people to keep or get a subscription).

Or if it proves too expensive to salvage, they might just sink the ship (with the gigant holes in it) already, we'll see.

Honestly the change to dominion enemies with the shields is in improvement I welcome. At GM3 those things were beasts with the damage and having a shield that was just a dmg sponge when guns and abilities didn't do enough damage to take it down efficently. I welcome this change.

I think abilities could use a major boost at that level of difficulty because they feel worthless to use. I can free roam around with my Interceptor and do more damage with a legendary gun and a fraction of the damage with a legendary ability. The game has weird difficulty scale when it comes to enemies.

This game is deader than disco. Look at the Twitch streams or lack thereof. Right now there's about 10 people playing Anthem while the rest are streaming The Dictator and Shrek with another stream that has some sort of screeching baby seal. Last night it was Pirates of the Caribbean and a violent rape anime.

Very true, when matchmaking what used to put me in a full party, now just puts me in a party with one other person. I hop in every now and then to see how the changes are.

I'll go back if they get it together and tons more content has been added. I fear it's gone so badly that they'll never get there. Diablo 3 and Fallout 76 have massive IPs backing them and drawing people in even when they were a disaster to start with. Anthem doesn't doesn't have that kind of brand power.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

Did they put in legendary support items ?

    I agree with this.

If nothing else it will remain a reason for people to tryout Origin Access Premier. Treat it like e.g. a new Netflix film or short series - a reason to subscribe for "a month". Over time - if you build up enough content - people may stick around for a little longer. Go f2p and this won't be an option.

The days when EA's CFO described f2p waxed lyrical about f2p are long gone. Money can be made in the same way it can be made from subs or b2p - there are no guarantees though.

Is someone still playing this title? I was expecting to see news about cataclysms since they announced them for May but, it's already the 30th and it's nowhere near complete.

I suppose they turned down on the crunch aka "BioWare magic" so the releases are delayed

    ...

But they better put something out.

Agree. It would be like e.g. Netflix, HBO etc. making a TV show that some like but overall doesn't get the viewers they hoped for. If its a series they might cancel it but they won't "give it away".

Its a long time since a now departed EA CFO said that f2p represented "the road to riches" (I paraphrase). These days f2p is no guarantee of making lots of money.

Don't these guys realize that no matter what they do, the original players who actually bought the game at launch won't return. I played through the story which was great. I continued a while after that until i simply got bored of the lack of content. At this point i can't imagine anything that make me come back to the game...
