For how long the Alpha was running.. I think those numbers are extraordinarily low.
I think it was a pretty small pool of testers all in all but I sort of thought the same thing.
I couldn't say whether those numbers are low..what are we comparing them to?
I can say that not everyone that played was PVPing all the time or at all. That would affect those numbers. Also, each wipe resource gains were tweaked and a good chunk of the beginning was a race for mats to claim territory and build up - not a ton of pvp during those times. There were whole companies and alliances that didn't pvp.
It was Amazon that posted the numbers as though we should be excited by them. So I'd say it would be up to them to explain why we should be excited. When I see 91k PvP deaths and 150K PvE deaths in 8-9 months... that is not impressive.
I personally died 45 times in PvP tonight in ESO
I did not get an invite. But a friend did. He said the game ran a lot better than any game in alpha that he ever played. But I believe he was invited in only about a month ago. 8-9 months? I don't believe that's accurate. I could be wrong. But he told me that we'll all be playing this and unlike Atlas. We'll all be playing it after a month or 2. I hope he's right. We have to get lucky one day.. Right?? hope hope.
Is it me or does this game no look appealing at all? I like games that involve the D&D like fantasy not the Ark like setting. Add to that I am looking for a True MMORPG like a Classic WoW, CU, Pantheon, Ashes, or UO something that is more of a MMORPG where you interact with other players to achieve things not building a game around Games as a Service Lobby based game.
They're aiming for EVE style SOV gameplay. Everyone's logs in once or twice a week for a PvP raid timer. Then do whatever on the off times to a survival theme. (Not a bad design if you take out survival and instead add a mix of content you can choose to rotate through)
My third thought after seeing the general graphical polish, and basic mechanics (both good and very functional for an Alpha)... Was why should I bother with survival game grind, when you don't get survival game rewards of making/designing your own house and crafting work flow.

Us East had 1200+ of 1500 players on usually. When they announced they were stopping the alpha it dwindled.
Looking forward to any changes they will make during this downtime.
No. That was ONLY for the last phase. Player caps and average players online was much much lower in the previous phases. Subtract roughly 1k players on average for the majority of the test phases.
That is because more and more people got an invite. Of course early on the numbers were lower. Use a little logic bud instead of hate.
I personally loved the combat and I wasn't the only one. There were definitely those that didn't like it as well..no surprise. It was more realistic. You had to wait for your moment - no invis, spam two buttons and win. Of course zergs sped up dying, but companies that practiced PvP could take out larger numbers just by skill. Skill was more important than gear by a long shot and that made me happy.
The problem I had was not the combat but the problems with large Ping spikes when a lot of people were around. Game performed great other than that, but that is a big problem for this type of guild v guild pvp game. I don't think everyone had this same issue, but I saw plenty of similar complaints on the forum. (1080 video card and 16 gb ram, but I didnt have an SSD which was recommended spec.)

I played through multiple phases... you posting the playerbase being 1k+ is just ridiculous.... anyone involved in the testing prior to the last and final wipe can tell you that. Yes they sent out the largest wave of invites for the final phase but that in no way represents the testing numbers most of us experienced over the past 8/9 months
and no hate here. People are posting that the numbers provided by AGS are not impressive but with an average playerbase of 200 through most of the testing I think the numbers are actually quite high.
I leveled past the caps in the majority of the phases, my playtime is actually embarrassing... I’m just clarifying the facts. You posting 1000-1500 concurrent players was for such a short time and does nothing for people trying to gauge the AGS stats to the number of testers
The stats were posted by Amazon. They do not look impressive. It would be up to Amazon to put them into context right? They should be the ones saying “1.5 million hours of playtime” or something like that.
Simply tossing out low numbers for an 8 month test shows nothing.

Maybe - but perhaps they were all motivated testers.
My assumption would be that they will have been after a given number of "meaningful" submissions. For at the end of the day - its NOT about how many items of feedback they get - which should increase the more people they invite - its IS about how much feedback they can cope with. Which will be based on the size of the team working on it + how quickly they want to action the feedback.
I assume they will have had a team sorting through the feedback and monitoring it. And the % of feedback that gave them key ideas. And if they were not getting enough ideas they will have invited more people.
And they now have enough stuff to work on and have closed it down.
Seems my post got deleted and I got a warning level increase for no valid reason (the alpha is no longer running). I guess I'll refrain from posting here again.

They said 'thousands' of testers.
2000, total.
I wonder if all 2000 provided feedback, and how useful was that feedback. While they may actually have had 'thousands' of testers, it is the metrics and data generated by those test sessions that are important. The 'thousands' thing seemed more like typical glossing over of facts.

So.....what happened? Haven't been any news on this game since June (on this site at least). Not to mention that this was the only title people were really caring about from them.

If you want a new idea, go read an old book.
