I forgot this game still even exists. I liked it back in the day, beyond the fact that it was a labyrinth of load screens.

Back in the day you needed to group up for certain content which created roadblocks for players. I was in the largest guild on my server, but since everyone was above my level no one wanted to do any of the expansion content or any level 30-40 quests; since there was no real incentive to help a low level in the game. I literally was stuck at 36 and gave up the game.

Shouldn't an EQ2 announcement be buried behind a dozen, slow loading screens?

I've tried going back a couple of times....It's basically empty except for Qeynos every time I went back.

Still an excellent game, the only thing I hate is needing like 5 action bars for all your skills at high level.

I enjoyed this game back near the release for about a year. I Ididn't enjoy it as much as EQ, but I didn't stay subbed & playing it as long neither. SOE was just a dreadful headache dealing with if any issue arose back then. EQ2 is fun for as aged of a game as it is. I've gone back a couple of times to EQ2 rather than EQ, but didn't stay with it very long. Daybreak games just doesn't seem focused on any type of incentiving new or returning players back.

I wish that would update some of the core features like their quest tracker and world map. Even Wow did this years ago.

From 2004-2006, this game was such a big part of my life. In fact, I get a bit sad when I hear the theme music etc via YouTube. It's just one of those things that can't be re-lived. You had to be there in the early days.

You need n00bs and beginners to make a game thrive. Once the population is nothing more than die-hard pros that know everything about the game, it becomes boring.

That's because everyone sits in their guild halls.  Cities became empty years ago back when they implemented guild halls.  That's where everyone sits.  I haven't played for a long time but I felt the same, cities were empty and I thought it was dead but turns out its just that everyone was in their guild halls hanging out.  Since you can have everything in a hall from merchants, to bankers to auction house NPC's, really no point in going to cities really.

Not sure how the game is nowadays but like some others in this thread, EQ2 holds a special place for me as well just as EQ1 does.  WOnderful memories.  Really wish they would stop releasing TLP servers because people move from one to the next to the next, etc making the previous released TLP server dead.  I had fun when I played on the TLP EQ1 server but once a new one released it quickly died and that killed the experience for me.

One of my all time favorite games. Played it for 7 or 8 years. Made some great friends. Sad to see a game I loved so much change so drastically that I don't even want to play it anymore.

This is the neat thing I hope WoW Classic does right and show's game devs that they shouldn't listen to the outspoken minority and pander to them...it ruins games.

I tried the latest TLP server 'Kaladim' and since I was expecting a vanilla experience I was pretty disappointed to see that almost everything that made it great at launch was gone.
All those quests in the city districts were gone, characterprogression, skills etc. are from the live game including a statsquish I didn't knew about resulting in a broken itemization. It's just that the new content is cut to vanilla, thats all.
Don't get me wrong, it was totally my fault for not correctly reading up on it but I thought I'd let you know in case someone gets the nostalgic feels and is about to make the same mistake, because the memories oh the memories <3 but unfortunately it couldn't recreate those feels. Here's hoping Classic WoW might make it... and Pantheon ofc :)

playing the TLE server at present .
its a good throwback to the past but you can see the rot of live on the TLE server sadly
due to the stats overhaul on live they had to customize the TLE and clearly you can see lack of man power there because its poorly done
still fun to run the old quests and you can see how much effort was kept into the game originally
zones are detailed and quests well written .Try the heritage quests
it had a worse launch then it deserved but since the game has gotten worse and cure live server are a real mess
keeping my sub running as plan to play planetside 2 also and come back for the next expansion on TLE

I loved playing on the first TLE server, I did not play on the subsequent versions.

So true... I wish I could get back in the days when EQ was on the peak of popularity... SANTA, PLS
  • MendelMendel Member LegendaryPosts: 5,609
Odd.  I was never really captivated by EQ2.  It seemed totally devoid of anything original, even the lore was a rehashing of EQ1.  I felt like it was just trying to put a varnish on old ideas.  In that way, EQ2 shows why returning to 1999 isn't really feasible.
