Well crap....currently playing LOTRO, ESO in batter's box and maybe NW on deck.....

How much is locked behind paywalls? How much is P2W?

Is the story good/deep enough to sink some teeth into?

    Gut Out!

For it to feel like D&D, we would need to play it in a friend's basement, eating snacks and chewing gum, with audible groans at bad rolls.

NW is not worth playing until they have it running in a modern engine - one that 2002 doesn't want back.

Well, if I'm fine with playing a game like LOTRO would that matter with this game?

    Gut Out!

Story is decent, but very linear. Think about LotRO's Book quests, with only a few other quests on the side in each zone, and those are always "en route" with the main quest line. Good for a playthrough, and none of it is locked behind paywalls, to address the first question as well.

P2w, it depends on your goals and style. You can play through all, dabble into every system, etc. for free. But if you want more (better mount than the free, better companion, etc.) you need to spend either cash, or a lot of grind.

A sidenote, the latest Module has changed a lot in the game, and was pretty controversial for the majority of the players. But if you start anew, you probably won't be affected negatively by it.

Was so looking forward to this game when it came out but what a let down this game was......not very D&D imo.

There pretty much no customization, you can't even choose what weapons you wield etc etc.

It just generic mmo with some D&D skinning/flavor and typical PWE crap monetization.

DDO beats this easily 150%, now if only DDO had a major facelift.

Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.

I was also really looking forward to this games when it came out, but the letdown for me was that it was p2w.
I really like a lot of stuff in the game and PvP at launch was one of the most fun PvP experiences I've ever had. Too bad that they never really even tried to make it properly. Pretty sure in the current starved MMO market it would've done great, tho I guess it's doing fine considering how many expansions have been out?

IMO PWE games do well not so much because they are good but because there are invariably some whales willing to put out to get hefty advantages over others.

If you want a D&D mmo this isn't it.

i loved the combat in this game and i thought leveling up was fun. I have not played for a long time, but i eventually hit a wall. I would log in do dailies and try to queue for a dungeon. As DPS it took forever. If you didn't have the proper GS you would get booted w/o being given a chance. I got stuck because i couldn't find a group to run harder content thus no way to improve gear. Things maybe different now and like i said i enjoyed the leveling up process more than most mmorpgs i have played. As for P2W there was stuff with enchanting i believe where you almost had to pay to max out.

Wizards of the coast should reconsider this license. Sad seeding potential devolve into mobile game style or buy your way to end game

Neverwinter is the most Diablo-like MMO imo, just in third-person.

Nothing, in terms of content, is behind a paywall, everything is free. There's an endgame enchant system that is very grindy and can be sped up by using wards.. which you can either buy from the cash shop, buy from other players or earn as rewards through gameplay. You can just buy the upgraded gems straight from the auction house if you want instead of upgrading them yourself which is what I prefer to do. They don't bind unless they were a quest reward so when you upgrade again you can just sell your old ones to someone else.

The enchant system isn't as bad as it used to be so some people's opinions about it may be outdated.

It's totally possible to play for free but at some point you'll need to read about or youtube how to get Astral Diamonds. Honestly, the best way is to get to endgame, play normally and sell stuff you don't need to other players on the AH. Astral Diamonds are the main trading currency and can be exchanged for cash shop currency. It can take a long time for the exchange to go through sometimes; 1-3 weeks on PC. I think it's faster on consoles, more whales there apparently.

The story.. meh.. there's lots of voice work and each region kind of has it's own little story. It's nothing to get excited about but the context for what you're doing is provided. There's lots of references to D&D novels.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

Are the new races free on PC? On PS4 it's like $80 dollars if you want to play as a Moon Elf or a Dragonborn. So far that's the only thing i've seen that I would want from the cash shop but i wont spend that much to play as a moon elf.

No, the races aren't all free. I forgot about that.

They aren't really needed though. Some builds out there will say things like Dragonborn is best for this specific build but this other race is fine. DB is fugly though so I personally wouldn't play them based on that alone lol.

Surely it's not $80 on PS4 though? That's got to be a bundle pack price you're talking about. They are 2500 ZEN on PC.

You can earn them for free if you exchange AD for ZEN if you wanted them in the long run.

I DL'd it to check it out, and turns out I had a lvl 22 Half-orc on there already....ha!

I deleted him and started over. I guess I played back in 2013 and just forgot, and didn't get very far.

So I'm DL'ing NW and Star Trek now....I have issues.

    Gut Out!

Yes it's a bundle that comes at that price, but the race itself can only be bought in that bundle on console for some reason. I wanted a Moon Elf but I've never seen it sold separately so i just ignore it.

Ah, i didn't know they could be bought with AD. At least that's another option.

I think I'm going to have to assign all my games a #, and then a RNG to help pick what I should play, because I'm restless right now man!

    Gut Out!
