imageThe US (Barely) Overtakes China as the Largest Games Revenue Market for 2019

For the first time in several years, the United States has overtaken China as the largest market for games revenue generation according to NewZoo's Global Games Market report. This year, the revenue from games in the US will surge nearly 14% to $36.9B while China will fall to second place generating $36.5B. The Chinese market has been hit hard by the 9-month freeze on licensing new games in 2018 that is still being felt well into 2019.

What i get from this is that console and PC combined are still bigger than mobile, which is good. EDIT: and we still have the best games.

Can't wait for streaming gaming and 5G erasing all the differences between consoles, PC and mobile games. The devs will have 2-4 times bigger auditory without messing with multiple ports.

Maybe that's when devs will start to invest more into game graphics rather than saving money and go "full mobile".

I work in market research with a few gaming clients and they see NewZoo reports like holy books.

APAC as the biggest market is expected, probably with SEA as the fastest growing. I think more & more games will cater to Asian tastes in the future.

I just posted this graph into another thread (the Mazon lay-off thread)
    https://forums.mmorpg.com/discussion/comment/7490522#Comment_7490522

in which @DMKano had linked a somewhat different picture from here:
    https://wolfstreet.com/2019/03/13/video-game-industry-stalls-stocks-plunge-whats-going-on/

Specifically it showed the worldwide revenue declining.

As I said in that thread: these graphs are estimate! Don't treat them as absolutes just as pointers.

Mobile devices are already powerful enough that devs could optimize most PC and console games to run on them. The problem is different screen size and control method.

Right. Even if my cell phone held the power of 1,000 suns, it would still suck for gaming as long as touch controls are its default control scheme.

As much as there are a lot of people in NA/EU that have smartphones, most of them use them for texting, instagram etc. type of communication with friends and family etc. The one thing that the vast majority don't do, is use them for games beyond something simple like Candy Crush. I think thats why Blizzard is trying to launch Diablo Immortal in China etc. they know very well that if they tried to make a go of it here in the west, it would crash and burn, it is after all why Diablo Immortal is not so much a game, but a 'meme' that pokes fun at Blizzard for being so out of touch with reality. :p

Is spending more money and time on gaming a good thing? It sounds to me like we are getting lazier....Gaming in short segments is fine, but it sounds more like it is becoming an epidemic.

Your loss. Games like God of War, Fire Emblem, Xenoblade, Breath of the Wild, and Persona 5 are so good that I'd play them if they released exclusively on literal toasters if said toasters came with a controlled attached.

I wish there was more augmented reality software for cellphones and that the good stuff wasn't so expensive.

It's not as expensive as a lot of other things you can do for fun on a regular basis, except perhaps binge watching Netflix.

I've tried some games on a cell and some of them are not bad.  It could become a thing if they had a setup like the Switch and you could just put it in a docking station when you got home and continue to easily use it with a monitor and keyboard, I know you can do this already but it seems like it needs to be more plug n play.
