Being a car nut myself, i think a MMORPG based around cars/car modifying would be good, not sure exactly how this would work but im thinking, u start off, have to buy an old banger of some description, race people, earn money (maybe other means then just racing) buy new cars, modify them, anyone seen fast and furious? could have player organised street races, car meets where people show off their cars etc.
does anyone know if anything like this is being made or is in the pipe line or been suggested at by a company?

There was Motor City Online, but it has gone the way of the Dodo...
Auto-Assault is in development. More like a MadMax MMORPG. Looks like it may be fun...

Auto Assault is closest to what you want.

Played: AC1, DAoC, E&B, SWG
Tested: AC1, AC2, DAoC, Eve, Planetside, Rubies, Lineage 2
Auto assault wont be anything like he suggested... did you even read his thread Annex? or just post from the subject.
No MMORPG's are like this that are out or being developed that i know about.
Need For Speed: Underground is exactly what you said minus the other people.
Organzied races for money/car upgrades, you get to completely trick your car out, rims, tires, decals, spoilers, color of everything.
MUAHAHAHAHAHA
MUAHAHAHAHAHA
Just because it does not have eye-candy like eve online??
The game should be judged by its gameplay more than the graphics.

Yes I read what he wrote. There is no mmrpg that directly meets his requirements. I mentioned Auto Assault as the closest possible game that either exists or is coming that comes anywhere close to meeting his requirements.

Yea Motor City Online would have been perfect for you, it was perfect for me, until MCO closed down, like every other EA game. :P
It was a great game, always competitive, which is what I love.
Hopefully another game will come out like MCO, but in the 10 years or or so that MMOs have been goin.. I think MCO was the only game out with car racing.
Auto Assualt looks alright, but its more of a twisted metal game than a need for speed game.
Need for Speed Online: now there is a game I would love. (being an MMO of course)

edit- Also... out of that group of people I recognize two and I am the only one still active out of all of them Was a great community back then when we all knew what an MMO was.
