imagePre-Ordering Pokemon-Like MMO 'Temtem' Yields Alpha Access - MMORPG.com News

One of the more successful MMO Kickstarter projects was for a Pokemon-like "creature collection" game called Temtem. It blew past the base amount on KS and ended up bringing in nearly $575k through almost 12,000 backers. Alpha testing is currently underway, but some may have missed the initial Kickstarter. However, for a limited time, interested players can pre-order the game via the Temtem Discord and gain immediate access to the game's alpha and a copy of the game on release this September.

Aaaand, pre-ordered. I mean, it's Pokemon. The MMO, without actually having the IP. But still REALLY well done.

I just want a digimon mmo that isn’t a scam to make me invest in cash shop.

Having played the alpha I can say it's pretty good.  I haven't been interested in Pokemon games in a while but this is different enough that it caught my eye.  The battle system is far more interesting and the MMO aspect just adds to it.

I really cant partake in betas\Alphas\EA's, knowing that all progress I make will be lost just kills the whole motivation.

I was going to reply pre-ordering for alpha access should yield a slap upside the back of one's head, but seeing as its launching in September it seems reasonable.

If you like keeping all your games on Steam better hold off, any preorder accounts during this promotion are now and forever locked to the Discord version.

"Preordering the game on Discord will grant the final game on Discord too, you won't be able to migrate to Steam without buying the game again there."

"There is crossplay between Steam and Discord so you'll be able to play with anyone playing the Alpha.

There will be cross-save between Steam and Discord if you buy the game on both platforms."

You see this a lot with smaller indie or kickstarter games, does steam charge them the 30% for giving out a key on the platform? I would assume that's probably the reason why.

Not sure, their fact sheet mentions there are already alpha players using Steam, but this promotion isn't available on the platform.

Kickstarted! Waiting on the Switch version which is what I pledged, though they still gave me PC Alpha access.

They do not, infact you can request a ton of keys, steam does not charge for keys to give out on other platforms.  It's purely the logistics of it all, being able to identify who gets what where on a small team is a waste of time and headache.  This was Discord is Discord account, Steam is steam account.  The last thing you want to do is cross transfer.

I think it's about how future microtransaction revenue is split.

So you mean they are selling on Discord first in hopes they get most people there because they make a bigger split than if they did them on Steam? I could see that.

The reason why listed in the kickstarter backer email I received was because you can review alpha/betas on Steam which aren't the final product and they will stick.  If Steam had a seperate review system that would be great.  Like when a game is in an alpha/beta and final product.

Won't be happening for quite a while though, Switch release has been delayed along with everything else, middle to late 2020 at earliest.

Was debating preordering two copies, one for me and one for my son... even though I have no interest, but being locked to Discord just seems like a pain.
Best wait for launch, what with pre-release and early release you might find he is out of his teens by then. :)
