It'll shut down if no one plays it because they fear it will shut down... which is what is probably going to happen to all the ex-Trion games. People boycotting them which is what causes them to close, I mean.

I quite like Defiance. There's stuff wrong with it but so far it's the one and only looter shooter type game that has a proper open seamless world where you actually see other players running around outside of the hubs (unlike Division's phasing and unlike Destiny's instanced planets). It gets credit for that.

They messed it up fully when they released a new version and split the player base...

well people got angry because it a copy paste of defiance. They already have a small player base, then launch defiance 2050 telling the player to restart from 0 to repeat the same thing all over again and pay for it again.

    pay for it again.
Not really, since 2050 is completely free including all the DLC content and races. That stuff isn't free in the original.

It was absolutely stupid of them to not just update their original game though or allow some kind of character port to the new version.

Apparently, it's only the PC versions that are low population though, the console version of 2050 is doing fine. I don't know from personal experience though.

Used to love the original back I'm the day. Tried to return recently and it just felt like a super budget Destiny... With Destiny 2 base game going F2P I'd be surprised if they see a 2md anniversary

MMO games are special in this regard, re-launching = re-grinding old stuff. Nothing wrong except the ppl that played already move pass that. So therefore, re-grinding old content would kill most of your old player base. Not like this game was a popular one to start with in todays market, I however do enjoy the game for what it is and its the only shooter looter that is free atm. The game does have some fun guns almost like borderland style at times, but, the over all is slow grinding game which hard to get back into when I have like a few hundred games in my collection. Quick reminder ppl can ONLY play one game at a time.

Off topic, mmo is a special type of game, it obviously requires player numbers for some/most of its contents, which is why if a mmo = have no players = death of a game by design, perhaps that is why publisher failed to understand by limiting the fun or QoL elements like char slots or the madness of selling you bag space in a loot/crafting game O_O??? That is like selling you a car without wheels! I smell greediness like no where else which also why a lot of mmo went shut down.

To simply put lots of bag space and char slots = fully invested in time = higher chance of spending money. But you know the gaming/gambling industry WANT that fast money ever faster turn over which is not ideal for long term time investment like a mmo game by design. A perfect example comes to mind is WoW, although its not free but they understood the players time investment = future sub = money and lots of it.

Back in the days of mmo golden era, their are too many companies want a quick cash grab and ruin the mmo landscape sort to speak. To this day it really haven't recover, also we have more of clone games than news more greediness at work I see, cheap products for high price = quick buck scheme = eventually destroy the market. You ask how is that so? Then how many new mmos in 2015-2018 compare to pre-2014?

Lastly, if Defiance 2050 did this like 3 years earlier then it might still have a future, but, almost everyone would think after the takeover Defiance would be shutdown, I guess they are milking it at this point.

~ A world run by money will always have limits, but a world without money have unlimited capacity, so which one will rise to the heaven and beyond? ~
