Lizard Squad in general was just a bunch of rich bored kids and teens right? I'm glad some punishment is happening.

They should also send the executives behind SOE/Daybreak Games to prison.

Five years, the wheels of justice turn slow, but they do turn.

When I see congress holding hearings to question accountability of different agencies to do a better job to combat cyber attacks and hacking, I'll know the country is taking internet security seriously.  Two cities in Florida so far who have agreed to pay hackers to decrypt their data.

I didn't think anyone was dumb enough to DDoS from inside the US. Easy pickins.

I'm torn on this one. On one side, DDoS attacks suck, but on the other side, its Daybreak.....they both got what they deserved?

I think their crime was making an MMO. Blizzard, Square Enix, Daybreak, Trion, etc. have all been DDOSed.

If it happened to just one company it might be reasonable to look at what that company has done. But when it happens to every company, DDOSers are just sick people who unfortunately can't be avoided. Fortunately they can be put into prison.

It's funny how this hacker is only forced to pay $95k and 27 months in jail for something that possibly costed SOE/DB a lot more money than that. And there was Nintendo making a couple pay $12 million for distributing free ROMs from games Nintendo don't make/lose any money off in the first place.

Bigger problems always have smaller repercussions.

So you condone attacks on companies as long as you're not a fan of them? You condone calling in bomb threats to major airports?

I hope the posters on the other thread who think gaming companies are launching DDOS attacks against other gaming companies read this and wake up from their conspiracy theories.

EQ Next - as originally announced - was 100% unattainable - so that was a pure pipe dream.

If EQNext was actually delivered into a game - it would have been scaled WAY back and many of the features would have been cut and eliminated in the end.

Storybricks AI was never there - it never existed in way that was ready for an MMO, storybricks was an overpromised tech that never materialized

So there is no loss of EQ Next - because it never would have been made the way it was first announced.

You are correct and we are the foolish ones that bought into it. That said, when an indie developer makes similar promises and we all buy into it and spend our money "kickstarting" their development, there is almost a certain expectation of failure. We may not express that outwardly, but deep down we know it's a pipe dream. When a "AAA" studio, like SOE (was?), makes those kinds of promises, we all hold our breath believing it might be real.

It wasn't the loss of the game as much as it was the feeling of betrayal by a team we had come to trust.

This will all slow down/decrease when people and governments start taking security seriously. Until then we will continue to see this.

Personally I feel cybercrime should be elevated to a much higher level, perhaps even to being capital crimes in some cases.
