Aloha Mr Hand !
It was not good to begin with, and it hasn't aged well.
The user interface is garbage.
It's a superhero game with lootable equipment that you are required to keep, wear, and upgrade. (This is totally stupid in a superhero game.)
Combat is floaty and bad even though the game has been out for a decade.
The power sets are weird and convoluted, with a lot of extremely abstract effects. This leads to a situation where the lackluster visuals cannot possibly tell you what's actually going on when someone uses a power.
I'm sure the dedicated community is very nice, but I can't imagine why they are sticking with Champions when there is a much better superhero game that is also free.
Depends on what you like, really, and how you like it.
It has some features missing from other superhero MMORPGs that allow it to better mimic the genre, such as the aforementioned functional vehicles, and a system that lets you design your own nemesis to randomly plague you. On the other hand, it has an aesthetic many fans of the genre dislike, and stories that frequently reach the camp level of the 60's Batman TV show.
The highlight of the game, by far, is the freeform system, that allows you to customize your character by cherry picking desired abilities from every power set in the game. This comes at a cost however. One must have a freeform character slot to do so, and those clock in at about $30 US each normally, with a slight discount for a bundle of three.
It also has the best customization for character costume in the superhero MMORPG genre, compared to games both present and past. But, to best benefit from that system you need a wide assortment of costume parts, many of which are in the cash shop... of course.
It is a tab-target game, but feels more active than is typical. The use of many attack abilities are regulated by means other than cooldown, and one can block to reduce damage at their whim.
Also, powers function in a variety of ways which spices things up a bit. Attacks for example come in the form of clicks, charge ups and maintains.
Click powers as is usual activate when you click the related button or key. Sometimes, these will also be combo powers, where a more powerful strike will occur every third attack made.
Charge ups build in intensity the longer you hold down the related key, and activate when it is released. Charging them fully also actives them. Often, different levels of charge come with different secondary effects. The longer the charge, the more energy the ability costs.
Maintains start dealing damage immediately, and continue to do so long as the related key is pressed. You can maintain the attack until the duration expires or you run out of energy. If you have energy remaining at the end of a maintain, you can immediately resume it.
So, for tab-target, it has a fair bit of diversity.
Its like when u go to cheap bar, meet nice snaggle tooth girl, drink, wake up and think this hurts to look at what I did.
