Whats your favourite feature of UXO ?

I'd have to say mine is the combat.

Im sick of that boring automated combat. I like to play the game, not watch it : )

I think the quest system looks cool also. It reminds me of baldurs gate.

Its great to have choice. With choice the player gets diversity ;)

so how about you guys? what going to be your favourite feature ??

I like the combat too. I like the idea of controlling every move. Goodbye "sandwich combat"! Lets just hope this kind of combat works out ok.

Definetly the Unreal Engine. I can't wait to see it in 3rd person with all the double jumps and wall jumps and leaps...ahhhhh yeah.

"Sandwich style" combat is pretty good for MMORPG's, in that it allows players time to socialize.  The more time you have to spend on the game controls, reacting/making decisions, etc is time you don't spend socializing.  Take DAOC, for example.  If you were in a dungeon group and talking to the other players in that game, they might resent the fact that you are not killing mobs as quickly.  While not "twitch-like" combat, DAOC keeps the downtime minimal and the player glued to his or her game interface.  I had friends in games like EQ, but never really in DAOC.  No time to chat very much unless you're falling down on your character's job in the group.

I hope Ultima Odyssey chooses some comfortable middle ground between "sandwich" and "twitch" style play.  Half the fun of a MMORPG is the community, and you can't get too much into that if you're too busy clicking mouses or pressing keys.

Well, they say that this game could be a solo game, which means you shouldnt' need that many people to take down these monsters. Leaving plenty of time for chat.

And you wont always be engaged in battle. You can talk between fights. I mean how often do you just talk to your friends while they are getting beat down buy a gang of bullies? I'm usually either jumping in to break it up, or jumping in to help, not much talking involved...

with many others i have to say combat..but also everything that i have read about the questing system and then also how you can port a friend to you...i like all that (esp. the last feature since i often don't have time to trapse for 45 minutes to get to my friends)

It is my firm belief that the reason players socialize so much in other MMORPGs during combat is because combat requires so little interaction. If you don't entertain yourselves during a fight, the fight is boring.

We want to create engaging and interesting combat. The combat isn't so twitch that you won't have time to yell for help or change tactics, but you do have to pay attention and control your character. You'll have plenty of time to socalize between fights, during "slower" parts of a quest, and of course while in town.

I agree the combat would be my favorite aspect of UXO. I also like the graphics, skills, and PvP ladder ideas they have laid out so far.

  • Ummm.... The Battle Duh,  The Way UXO Is Setup With PvP Ladder and Guild vs. Guild Wars The Battle System Will Not Only Be Tested Constantly Its New System With Combos And Real Time Fighting With Almost Limitless Actions Should Change The Way MMORPG Are Made!

... ITs Like AC Meets UO & I Cant Wait Till Beta.

    My favorite feature? Phoda!

But seriously, after a few years of playing melee characters in EQ, I am looking forward to having something to do during combat. I ended up playing a shadow knight in EQ so that I could at least cast spells while fighting, and there were situations where I couldn't even do that.  Most of the TV I watched over the last few years was while in combat.

I am friendly enough in games, but I am not really chatty most of the time, so the thought that I wouldn't have time to socialize while fighting never crossed my mind.  I just don't know where I am going to find the time to watch TV. image
