12 minutes in: sobering stories, to be sure... but so far these are examples of recovering addicts looking to video games as either "healthy replacements" or even "salvation"...

    Something is off, there...

Not to be that guy, but rather than looking to video games for "salvation" shouldn't these examples have been looking for a higher power? Definitely not to excuse predatory monetization, but this really jumped out at me. It seems like Jim would prefer these addicts moved to the digital equivalent of the proverbial Greenland ice shelf when he talks about loot boxes 'following them around'.

I really agree with his point about AAA companies taking advantage of addictive tendencies for the sake of profit, leaving "morals" aside for the time being. This ought to be regulated, just like the tobacco industry and the gambling industry.

On the other hand, the long sequence of Torulf Jernstrom talking market strategy actually includes many broad attitudes brick and mortar retail establishments adopt. It seems like Jim is taking shots not just at the AAA gaming industry, but early 21st century capitalist structure (quite unintentionally). The video also seems to ignore the fact that markets evolve, and in step, market strategies. Suggesting that things should go back to a simpler time is facile.

"It's frustrating because the writer is so close to the truth, so close to the issue" ironically self-criticizes.
