Hero's Hall: |
1. What is the current or planned skill system like? To be more specific, is it like Eve-Online were it takes a certain amount of time to train a skill, or is it like the standard skill tree systems were it takes experience to level up. |
Simutronics: |
Hero's Journey is a level-based game. Abilities are acquired at level-up, and do not gain rank through use. If you have an ability, you have an ability."
I have a question about this level based system. Many MMORPG's have a level based system where the best abilities are at the highest level. This made it so that you could not multi-class becuase otherwise you would only have the sucky skills of each class. When simutronics says "Abilities are acquired at level-up, and do not gain rank through use. If you have an ability, you have an ability." Does this mean that when you get a level up you get to choose between a whole list of abilities, or that you can only choose between 1 or 2 skills per level (Fixed order in which way you recived them). If it is a fixed order in which you recived the skills im afraid that if you multi-class for example 5rogue/'5 warrior you will have no chance against a lvl 10 gearknight. Some clerification would be very apreciated! "Even if you don't like multiclassing, you'll still be happy. If all you want to do is heal -- play a Healer-Cleric. If all you want to do is beat things up -- play a Warrior-Gearknight. If all you want to do is confuse people -- play a Bard-Necromancer. We dont want to take away the roles people are familiar and happy with, but we also wanted to make sure you had new things to try." (Article 1, Classes, MMORPG.com). So basically it is like a skill point system where when you have used up all your skill points in one class you have to put the rest into another class (Have to multi-class)?

Good questions, my guess would be that it will be a skill tree system whereby you have the same number of points to spend, but you choose where you spend them, so you could be the equivelent of a 9 rogue/1 warrior, or even 0 in warrior but just keeping the class around for the basic skills.
Of course thats just conjecture as I have no idea

Well lets say that Hero's Journey is the game that we have all been waiting for. One that has good pvp/good story line, fun game (no grinding) and fairness even if you do multi-class. If this was the case, my second question is would you multi-class then? Or stay with one class?
If mutli-classing become playable i think that i would choose a rogue/ranger for the stealth and range. I would deliver a powerful blow to my enemies from a far distance and then escape into the darnkness of the woods and attack from another angle until my opponents would be elimentated. I think that my character would be a suwari becuase they fit the best description of a rogue-like proffesion. What will your character be?
That being the case I would say that multi-classing will most definately be playable .
Guild wars had an interesting training area - where you choose your primary profession at character creation, then explore the training area, do quests etc before settling on your secondary class.
Does HJ do something like this - or are both chosen at character creation?
Does HJ have a training area that teaches you how to play the game, cast spells, use skills etc?

Which Final Fantasy Character Are You?
Final Fantasy 7
To answer your question though yes you'll have control over your advancement, that's part of our main goal of allowing you to play the character you have pictured in your head. The primary/secondary classes chosen at character creation provide the initial direction. As you advance the skills you choose will further refine that direction. Then you add in the Wyr system to further cutsomize your skills, attributes, weapons and armor and refine how the character plays even more.
Thanks for the reply. I only know as much about wyr as I have gleened from the boards. I'll see what more I can find about it. Glad to hear it works this way; however, it wouldn't stop if it worked otherwise. The game just looks too good.
