I played Planetside in beta (christ thats a long time ago!). But never joined the paying horde.
Recently i heard some rumors about planetside and i'm wondering if i should check it out.
Any advice ? Is there a trial or something ? Is vanu still the least played side (wich is great i love that
) ?

One year of free play, but you're capped at BR6.
About a year ago they introduced fairly hefty XP and HP benefits for under-populated empires, and since the HA have been more or less balanced (or at least our other stuff has been buffed up to compensate) and since you can have a character on each empire now (though there's a timer on switching, like recerting) it's mostly around even pops. when you do get the big swings, i.e. afternoons and early mornings, it does tend to be against the VS, and we still always FEEL like we're outnumbered
It's not funny, it's not clever, and it WILL break if you play with it.

So you would recommend it ?
Is it fun ? is there something to do for newbies like myself ?
More foort zerg!
Yeah, just make a couple BR6 characters in the same Empire and you'll basically get to use most of the stuff. The only problem is your guys won't be as versatile. Like, a really high level guy could heal/repair himself, use heavy infantry armor, carry an antivehicle and an anti-infantry weapon like a Thumper (that'd make him kind of poor for longer ranged anti-infantry combat though).
REXO is the reinforced exo suit, 200 armor and two slots for large guns.
MA is medium assault and lets you use your side's rifle and the punish er rifle.
Some things I've done at BR6:
Rex, MA, Special Assault, vehicles of some kind.
Special Assault lets you use the Rocket Rifle and Thumper. The Rocket Rifle is pretty decent. Pretty good against maxes if you manage to hit them with all the rockets. Loading some grenades into it lets you shoot aircraft, and it IS nice to be able to convince the local Reaver to go the hell away. It also leaves you with enough certs to use tanks or the basic aircraft. If you want to be really helpful, you could take the simplest tank (Lightning) and the support vehicle (AMS).
Uni-Max, basic aircraft, MA:
MAX suits can work very wonderfully for you, sometimes. Not always. You won't be able to do much else than run around in your big robot suit. The price you pay. Nice people will heal you or repair your armor because no one in a MAX suit can use the Medical Applicator or Armor fixing handgun (BANK)
Air Cavalry 1 & 2, REXO, MA
Lets you use the "Reaver" which shoots missles and bullets. Whore-able aircraft, basically. Then you can land at the local mobile station (AMS) and switch to a basic heavy-infantry load for attacking a base.
I haven't even touched on using stealther suits, advanced engineering for deploying turrents, and similar stuff.
Unless you are AV or lugging Deci's around Rexo is for noobs.
Use the Agile Exosuit. Rexo is a waste of certs unless you plan to be lugging AV weapons. Once you hit BR6 and get your 1 implant get the personal shield or the Darklight. Personally I prefer personal shield. Darklight is situational and so many people get it that you really don't need it.

Still in: A couple Betas
There were lots of changes since the beta, some say good, some say bad. In general, PS has been nerfed/buffed to a point where all empires are balanced. Of course if u pit jackhammer and lasher at close combat, JH will most likely win becuase its primary function is to be a devastating close quarters weapon. But if u r defending a base, there is nothing better then laying covering fire alongside tight corridor with a lasher. Throw in a deci or lancer and that corridor is virtualy unpassable.
And not to forget TR chaingun, fast shooting, great at close combat too becuase u dont really have to aim it and you can mow down several troops without reloading.
battles outside the base, in the open, are often spectacular and may take HOURS. I especially love bridge battles, narrow bridge wont let attackers roll out armor fast enough, so if defence is organized, attacking force will get wiped even if outnumbering defenders 2 to 1. PS has changed to a point where personal skill, tactics and strategy can turn the tide of battle. I love that aspect because often when u capture a base or help defend one, you or your group/outfit is often commended for your actions.
So you will often see "Great job on that gen drop, Sons of Vanu" message in command channel.
I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

I'll try that, I got wtfpwned quite a bit when I was using agile only so I switched most of my toons back to Rexo.

Yes PS is for EVERYONE
I was also one of the closed beta PS players and have been off and on for the past what 4 to 5 years lol. This is the only game I always ceom back too. They changed alot but the core game is still there. BFR's are good, were a big problem at first. Plus they have alot of new things coming out as well. I reactivated since reserves came out and boy there are alot more people on now, was almost poplocked at 7 am this morning on markov lol, have not seen that since the first month of its release
