(this was my first few weeks impression, it has since changed)

yeah so ive been playing as a reservist and ive been open minded, paitent and got to know some fine people in my outfit. I can sum up my experince in one word....BORING...
Its an underwhelming game that SOE has nearly forgotten about. Oh well they did add a new hat and make some nerf/buff adjustments recently.
Either you roam around with your platoon taking control of bases nearly unchallenged or you die a thousand times defending or invading bases when there is a decent number of the enemy on.
Everyone dies pretty fast, its just the way it is.
The zones have a que if they are filled.... I belive its 166 players per zone but I could be wrong so you have to wait in line to get into the action.... if you pay, you get priority over reservists.
Also if you pay you get more certs for equipment but even their BFRs which is the "ultamit" tank that you actualy have to earn the right to use is really crap.
Thank you SOE for the trial but I won't be giving you my money.

Something for everyone. Not sure why are you complaining about paying accounts having certain advantages over free accounts. I've been with the game since beta so thats about 200+ $ that I spent on the game already and I continue to pay for it.

As far as combat goes. There are a lot of other aspects in PS. On a paying account you can get to Command Rank 5 and go into the command aspect, or get a BFR, join an AirCav division.

But once again, something for everyone.

What certs did you try? full-on Infantry is a very hard way to start out, especially if you don't have outfit armour/transport people to help. i'd advise trying out either Armoured Assault, Assault Buggy or Air Assault. the first two aren't going to give you huge numbers of kills yourself, but a decent gunner will bring in a LOT of assists, and Buggy especially can be outragious fun, plus you will suddenly have lots of new friends :) Reaver (air assault)... i've honestly never given it much time myself; you can get a great many kills if you're cautious with it though, and flying is pretty easy to learn.

It's not funny, it's not clever, and it WILL break if you play with it.

I tried all the certs except BFR.... all roles ....  Gal drops..... tanks to tank busting... ghost hacking... recon... sniping.... MAXes....grunt... support.. bombing... etc... 2 of the 3 empires...
but.. game play and world sux.  I have more fun playing BattleFront 1 and 2... and you dont need a subscription...

Well then you are completely missing the point of the game lol. The point is instead of just fighting for a little while and restarting, you are in an endless war... If you are getting killed way too eften it is because you are in the primary assault area where everyone and thier brother are all pushing on the same base. Try looking for the secondary target and fighting there for a little less population. Not to mention you just hit Esc, Press "I" for instant action, and transport to a random hot spot in 10 seconds if you are in a friendly area.

i played the trial and i have got to agree, nothing more complicated than the game is ultra boring.

I respect everyone opinion but how is this game boring?  You have to be doing somehtign wrong becuase the only bring part of the game is traveling and even that is short.  This game is just like BF, but a larger scale and the rounds never end.  you just have to pick the righgt time and right server thats all.  BUt I do agree this game is very hard on new people, coming form liek CS or BF, you get owned trying to play the same why.  this game acually requires tactics and skill which I like about it.

But this is only my opinion

I played the trial before game went free, and it started fun, but it quickly became too repetitive for me. If there was more to do than capture cities (been too long, can't remember the proper name), then it may be funner. All I did was attack attack, defend, die and then start all over again.

    No longer visiting MMORPG.com.

Yes that is the game but isn't that ever fps game like BF, CS, DoD?  I do wish they would add some different features like other types of mission, maybe like a seek and destroy.  They tried those stupid rabbit type games but they never worked

Planetside is MMOFPS, the mmo is only there because it is indeed massively multiplayer and it does provide you exp to level up with. Also you build your charector with certifications you earn when you level. That is all the mmo elements it has.

It also isn't just an oversized game of capture the flag. It is a never ending war to take control of bases and towers. In principle it may have similar concepts to CTF, but you aren't trying to see how many times you can get the flag from here to there, you are an invading army or a defending army. The lone wolf gets killed FAR FAR FAR more often then the team player here. You need to learn how to take cover and when you should not be in the front of the line.

Try spending some time in serious battles, or even playing an infiltrator the fun way. Sneak down into a tower, hack the equipment terminal, then suddenly lay waste to everyone down there in a MAX suit. It is just so satisfying. If it takes too long to get anywhere change your trial build so you can spend the entire ONE point for your choice of 3 ATV's to get you around at like 89kph.

YES IVE DONE ALL THAT TOO ! its just not fun and endless war back and fourth is lame.
Theres nothing to do except count kills and work up to higher levels and commmand rank.

  • AzekielAzekiel Member Posts: 100
yes, you die quite a lot. but death costs you nothing, and if you're sensible and know the business, it really shouldn't take that long to get back into the fight. the game is not instanced, therefore yes, almost by definition every base battle will be an uneven fight. but how is that bad? some of my favourite moments from my time in this game were when we held onto a base for half an hour against overhwelming odds, or dropped from a galaxy to hack/resecure a base crawling with enemies.

If you want perfectly even fights, D&DO is all instanced. if if has to be a FPS, you'll have to wait for Huxley in 6-8 months i'm afraid. the repetitiveness, however, is likely to follow you whichever MMO you choose.

It's not funny, it's not clever, and it WILL break if you play with it.

Isnt that what ALL FPS games are? I played Battlefield a bit and its just like CS but with vehicles. To make a crude comparison, PS is like CS but with vehicles and on global scale. Global scale means imagine you have only 10 CS servers, but they are linked together meaning u can jump from  one to another AND if u capture one server, you get a benefit and now you are able to capture the next server in line. If u capture 2 enemy home continents, you get to "buy" all special vehicles from that empire.

PS is not about questing or PvE, PS is all about fighting, both tactical and strategical elements. CS is mostly tactics, you analyze situation and act on it. Not much strategy becuase you dont really plan beyond the current round. PS is beyond that, you plan ahead, what cont to apture, who to attack, what base to go for, what gen to drop.

Too bad you didnt last longer, PS does have a steep learning curve, my buddy who tried PS for the first time was very confused and didnt last long as well. But once u get into the details, join a good outfit, and i do mean GOOD outfit, not just any outfit that only groups together and zerg enemy bases on foot.

And about dying fast.. thats why I like PS. I think its a good thing u die first, that way not one person will be able to kill 100 enemy troops without dying. Its easy to die, but its easy to kill too. If you fight 3 enemy troops alone, you will most likely die (although I do manage to kill 3 troops alone once or twice per month). Unfair combat ends fairly quickly, but then again, it all depends on your personal skill. Elite squads can hold attack of regular squads twice their size - happens all the time.

And this would be the most important piece of information that you could take note of. It's why I still play PS.

Um Actually it's an MMORPFPS.... MMO is "Massively Multiplayer Online"  The elements you talk about are the *few* "roleplay" elements in the game :)  It's an MMO because thousands of people play it together, online :)

But yes, there isn't much to do besides kill or be killed.  That's the nature of an FPS game.  :)  LOL.  If you don't enjoy first person shooter combat then this game isn't for you.

Currently Playing: Dungeons and Dragons Online.

LOL this happens in all games. I admit, somtimes I get that "piseed off" attitude when nothing seems to go right, and that other person is so annoyangly-good/lucky that I just "need" to send him a "I PWNED U" msg when I kill him. But fortunately, in the late years Ive managed to contain my emotions. In fact, you can gain new friends by responding politely, even get pointers or join their outfit. Just gotta resist the "pissed-off" urge.

I can tell you a few things i can complain about planetside and had a post recently over it.

But this points you make are invalid.

Let me see you download the game free and play free.Yet you want to have same as ppl who bought the software and pay $15 a month!

Excuse me dude!If it was so do you not think everyone will stop paying for the game!

SoE is using the reserve program as a way to make people convery to pay to play. They let people experience the game and then see if they like it.If they do then they get priority in queues, then the get better choice of weapons to die less frequently.

Reserve program is a marketting scheme pure and simple.Want premium services such as queue priority and more certs then pay and you get it.

Wow, no thats not my point at all. I am well aware of the limitations of the reserve program. I am saying that PAYING FOR AN ACCOUNT DOES NOT GIVE YOU ANYTHING SO MUCH BETTER... its not worth paying for my dear. Thats my point.

You don't believe it's worth playing for free, as you keep telling us.

    And you're still here.

but... weren't you complaining how paying players had so many massive advantages over non-payers, only a week or so ago?

It's not funny, it's not clever, and it WILL break if you play with it.
