It looks like you're new here. If you want to get involved, click one of these buttons!
If you bought the game before final version was made you got advantages in game. Just this is what makes me not even try this game. If they do this probably they will do the same when new expansions come.

thank god you are here to warn us OP, I wouldn't want to play an excellent game with a great combat/crafting/advancement and damn fun style because the pre-orders got their "huge advantage".
I mean, if it weren't for you, i would have wasted my time playing a hella-fun MMO which offers fast combat, and great graphics, along with addictive game play.
Oops, to late, I already bought it, and am having a blast.(non-preorder)
**Anyone who is on the fence for AA, this game rocks, and is well worth trying**
Human Commando-Breakdown lvl 16
Lvl 7 Engineer (Kick arse Fun)
Auto Assault
World of Warcraft
Return To Castle Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory
For the record, the pre-order weapon that you got is a middle-of-the-road weapon. It is not meant to be a terrific advantage, but is instead a fallback weapon for when you can't find anything else. I have the pre-order weapon and I don't use it.... I've found many more weapons that drop off of opponents that do far more damage.
But if that's all it takes for you to skip out on a great game... well, okay then. That's obviously entirely up to you.
SOE knows what you like... You don't!
And don't forget... I am forcing you to read this!
It is not true that all mmorpgs do the same. In fact most dont do that. I am not going to buy a game to check if the advantage is ridiculous or not, i just see they give an advantage and i am not going to buy it. And as i said if they do that at the beginning who knows what else they can do, it is just a kind of attitude to manage a game that is not good for me.

Really? Hmm. EQ2 did. EQ1 does for all their recent expansions. DDO did. Auto Assault did. City of Heroes and City of Villains did.
I'm not sure about WoW, since I only played beta...but I think it's fair to say that most recent games *have* provided some manner of advantage for preorder customers.
Yes, really. EQ and EQ2, made by the same ppl, dont know why you just didnt say also all the expansions of EQ . Also CoH and the expansion CoV, made by the same ppl.
Actually i cant be sure if most give advantages or not, as noone here can do it. I just have been in web pages of many games i was interested in and i havent seen anything about advantages but auto assault. It is true that EQ gave advantages, and that is one of the reasons why i left the game ( even though i was max lvl ).
So, actually you are talking about 3 other games.

CoV & CoH: pre-order helmet (only visual), collectors-edition: sprint power with another animation & effect (which is worse off in pvp since it emits a easy to spot glow) & a badge that does nothing.
AutoAssault: mid-range weapon which is worse than dropped weapons.
GuildWars: glowing hand animation, basic weapons (depending on pre-order) which are only used for fun (since other weapons are better), collectors-edition: couple of skills that are gotten anyway during play.
WoW: Collectors-edition: ingame visual pet.
DDO & Everquest 1-2 not sure since I havent tried them. (Also not mentioned the in-hand items you might get sometimes: artbook, map, toy-figure, extra cd:s/dvd:s and so on).

lol... nice.
And I'm not saying every game does this, but every game I've played recently has. But, to the original poster, if it bothers you, then don't play. No big deal. That's entirely your call to make.

I think the OP is totally justified in complaining that this game gives a pre-order advantage. They also add fire to your tires if you pay for your first 6 months gameplay right off the bat. Who does this crap?
They also auctioned off beta slots to "contest" winners, while the pre-order suckers were waiting for the beta slot promised to them on the back of the box. Seems like a pretty lame way to get into business.
No doubt they'll have no qualms doing it again in the future, as well.
The "veteran reward" thing is done by other games, but in a different fashion--they award you after you've spent that much time as a subscriber. AA just does it in advance. So it's hardly unprecedented in concept.
And giving beta slots to contest winners has been done in almost every beta I've been in...and that's a decent number.
I still don't see what the big deal is with these mostly fluff perks. The only people whose dislike of them I understand is those min/maxers who feel that every tiniest difference between characters must be measured and managed and throw fits if there's anything, no matter how small, they don't have.
Frankly, I can do without that sort of individual.
Could the OP mean this ?

Well, it's nothing major, I don't see why that would put you off buying the game. You're missing out, I'm sure.
