Not really going to read "nvidia" biased content. What is "Pesky rumor ? really. For my first read from the new dude, F- .

This sight has done well in terms of non clickbait troll traps, I hope it continues that path.
It's not biased lol. Most hardware sites have reported this (Tom's Hardware, PC World, etc.) and it's major GPU news.

    its poor worf choice.
GPU's phase out and new lines fade in, that has been the case since 1990's.

A better use fo pesky would be" This pesky rumor that nvidia is taking part in insider trading"  that is a pesky rumor. Not the a new line phasing out the old.,

...or maybe you read something into it that wasn't there.
That was a perfectly acceptable phrase.
Your failure to properly comprehend the use in the phrase is another matter.

I think the news is likely to sting a bit because the GPU was overpriced and only launched 5 months ago, and that kind of "oops we messed up sorry but screw you" is typically the behavior/response PC enthusiasts attribute to Nvidia and Intel while holding AMD up on a pedestal.

Well, there was that two parter where he forcefully infiltrated the Rom-Kling village and acted like a mix of a zealot and a terrorist. Was super unlikable in that one. Otherwise, yeah, more Worf, please.
    Ill give ya that one....
and the one where he ruined their vacation on Risa....but no other ground shall be ceded!

This card always came across more as a compute card in gaming card clothing.

I think it was more a proof of concept and a way to preempt Nvidia tossing out a 7nm card out of the blue with no retail availability when AMD was right on the doorstep. And try to steal a little Nvidia thunder themselves at the same time.

Navi was the real play all along I think.

The article is fairly obvious garbage.  The Radeon VII uses HBM2, which can deliver a given amount of bandwidth while using far less power than GDDR6.  But the article claims that the reason the Radeon VII is too power hungry is because of the HBM2.  That's completely wrong.

The real reasons the card is power hungry is because it's clocked aggressively and it's very heavily derivative of an architecture that was seven years old when the card launched, so it lacked a lot of the efficiency improvements that had been found in the meantime.  But that wouldn't make the card go end of life.  A bigger problem is that it's expensive to build, because of the four stacks of HBM2.

I can't imagine that AMD would discontinue Vega 20 entirely until they've got a viable compute card to replace it.  It's possible that they'll discontinue the consumer version, as it's a compute card that just happens to have a gaming driver, and it wasn't obvious if they'd ever bother to make a consumer version of it in the first place.  For comparison, Nvidia didn't make a consumer version of their GP100 or GV100 compute dies.

File this one under “who cares”. AMD and Nvidia are both highly unethical companies currently engaged in a price fixing scheme to hose gamers for as much as possible. This current generation of cards, Navi and RTX are total bull shit. Absolutely no reason to upgrade if you have a RX 580 or better or a GTX 1070 or better. Unless you’re totally rich and are gaming at high refresh rate 4K with a $5000 gaming pc. Then this comment doesn’t apply to you who are like 5% of all gamers.
Conspiracy theories aside, has there EVER been a reason to upgrade from a single generation back if you're not in that super-enthusiast crowd? Every PC gamer I've ever known does their new builds with the hope/expectation that it will last them somewhere between 5 and 10 years with a single GPU upgrade in the middle somewhere.

Those cards are already nearly year old, and with how often GPU manufacturers update their top end GPUs I think something about either an update or a replacement was expected this year.

Radeon VII is a bigger deal because it's less than 6 months old.

Dude this is probably your biggest outbreak since you felt people on this forum were stalking you on the social media after you had a mental breakdown, when you didn't win a beta key in a sweepstake.

Maybe you shouldn't post after taking your meds.
What you expect? This is the same complete and utter sap that made a thread the other day because someone said a bad word to him online. The melodramatic muppet goes on about falling into an abyss because of it.

EOL is because AMD wants to retire the GCN architecture and move on with RDNA. plain and simple, there are no other reasons.

I never expected the Radeon VII to have a long life. This was an easy product to launch as they already had the card, but for a different market. All it needed were a few tweaks for the normal PC market.

I doubt we would have seen Radeon VII if Navi had launched in march. Rumors have it Navi had a few set backs so without those it could have launched around march probably.

Also the fact there are no custom coolers seemed to me that the card wasn't something long term and more of a look what we got, while waiting for Navi to be ready.

I expect new Navi cards both lower and higher tier before the end of the year.

Grow up, troll much?  There are no Navi problem rumors that I have seen either.  You make that up too?

As to the card, it is very expensive to make as pointed out earlier in the thread and certainly not overpriced either as it competed with the similarly priced 2080.  This card is probably not going to be available in the consumer marketplace for long because AMD can't really discount it much.

Wish you idiots would just click the link in original post so you would have a clue. Bad power consumption and temperatures are the 'rumours'.

Go READ IT. Fucking idiots think that if they don't already know about something it isn't true.

I have a Radeon VII and it really is a awesome card if one knows how to use it. Also EOL..sure I can take that no biggie but it will still get support for quite a while but.

But hey we all have 'hindsight' abilities like 'suckers that bought X card back then is being beat by the new X card just released' like hit the brakes..I mean when I was shopping for a 2080/Radeon VII back in March I do remember not seeing any Navi 5700/xt cards for sale..O yeah it did not exist to buy back then yet. Same as those who bought the 2080/2070 and now you have SUPER cards like again talk about replacing a lineup that is, what, 10 months old.

    Sigh tech people

You can tell it's failed gaming card when even the fans tell you that you need to know how to use it.

EOL is because AMD wants to retire the GCN architecture and move on with RDNA. plain and simple, there are no other reasons.
Eventually, yes.  And the Vega 56 and Vega 64 cards are probably EOL for exactly that reason.  But they don't have Navi replacements for their entire lineup out yet, or even all that much of their lineup, for that matter.  If they've stopped producing cards like the Radeon RX 590 or RX 560, it's only because they've got enough stock to last until their Navi replacements arrive.

But moving on from GCN/Polaris entirely will take quite a few more years.  Most likely either the Radeon R7 240 or the Radeon RX 550 will be around for many years to come, to give people an option for a low end card.  It might be a while before it makes sense to make a low end card on 7 nm at all, and even once it does show up, it's going to be overpriced for quite a while because the 7 nm node will be more expensive than older nodes for quite a few years.
