What "old" tech do you still use? Me and my Sidewinder...

I have had this Microsoft Sidewinder keyboard for so long I don't remember when I bought it. Best damn keyboard ever. What do y'all have hanging around that is still used daily?

I use two Sidewinder X6 keyboards too. I love how the magnetic keypad is easily detachable to make the whole keyboard even more compact. I usually connect the keypad to the left side when I need it. I like the backlight and volume dials too. It's a shame that MS discontinued this product line and the brand new X6 keyboards go for $500 on Amazon. I can't find anything similar to this one.

In 2007 I bought a "Gateway" gaming laptop.  Piece of junk, had to be returned for repair three times likely due to overheating, with the 3rd failure killing the motherboard, hard drive and video card.

Fortunately,  I had bought the best warranty they had so they sent me a link to a website and told me to pick out a comparable laptop, so I chose an Acer with much better specs which they sent me in early 2010.

That laptop is still running great years almost nine years later.  4.5 years ago I upgraded to a Sager gaming laptop but the Acer still sits in my den which I use for work and online shopping.

Hey, it can still run EVE and WOW, shows how little some MMORPGs have progressed on a hardware front.

I rarely turn it off, letting it run endlessly year after year, though the upcoming cessation of Windows 7 support will jeopardize its usefulness.

Same for my other laptop, also on Windows 7, I'm hoping the Sager people can help me upgrade it to Win 10.  Last time I tried a few years ago there were several driver compatibility issues, especially with sound card which was locking up the PC so I rolled back to Win 7.

It's just called "Optical Mouse" and it's just a Logitech mouse. It's never died for atleast 20 years now. It's still in use.

    I use "book."

requires no power, can sometimes be a bit bulky so I dont' carry too many.

Used to use "Cuneiform Tablet" but that got old fast once I started using "Book."

They just don't make papyrus scrolls like they used to either, I had to change to "Book" too. :)

I suppose in the spirit of the thread, I had an old flip phone until 2014. Refused to upgrade "no need."

Of course, when I went to Italy and was able to find "everything" AND have a conversation with our Roman taxi driver, I sort of saw the value.

At this point, I still buy CD's and DVD's/Blurays. Streaming is fine when one can find what one wants but more often than not I can't and want to watch something specific. Also, I prefer to own my media as opposed to rent it out only to have someone take it away because of "agreements with another provider."

I can't beat Phry's spades, forks, and hoes, but...

For PC: My whole PC is about 7 years old (2012-ish). I go through keyboards (faded "WASD" keys with dead spacebars, mainly) and mice whose left click buttons either get sticky or just wear out. I want to build either a Win 95/98 or DOS 6.21 PC for my old games. New machine with old OS :)

Prior to 2015 I used actual landline phones. Then I got a "smart phone" and hate it. I must be the only human being whose fingers "stick and jump" while attempting to "swipe." I fat finger on normal keyboards and smart phones intensify that 100-fold.

I can't leave my books behind me. I hate when the binding breaks down, but love the feel of them in my hands :)

I never could use an abacus, so my old collegiate (1992-ish?) Texas Instruments TI-30SLR+ calculator (solar/light powered, no less) helps me out still.

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse.

I still have all my old game consoles and play them relatively regularly (our NES is still plugged in right now, with like 10 other consoles around it). I still collect physical movies and media (including VHS movies) so I still use VHS technology I guess.

@Kyleran, Your old lappy may have some life in it!  I just bought a pair of old Win7 laptops from my boss, and then upgraded them to 10.  I used the Win7 codes on the green stickers on the bottom of the laptops, and they activated for Win10!  Worth a shot...

Microsoft Ergonomic 4000 keyboard.  I bought it in 2006, and it JUST died after a VERY hard life in MMORPGs and MMOFPSs.  And what did I replace it with?  ANOTHER MS erg 4000 keyboard!

Until recently, I used an Altec Lansing ACS45 speaker system.  The Up Volume button died, I could lower the volume, but couldn't raise it back.  I reached the point where the speaker works, but I can't hear anything.

Old bit of tech I own is an external HD my wife bought me 8 years ago and only because its 1.5TB and still works lol. Next oldest is my Nexus 6P, 4 year old Phone that still has Android 8.1 on it. With 128gb storage. So makes a great gaming phone. Saves the battery on my Pixel 3xl. Always looking for the next best thing when it comes to tech.
