I wish they would put in a joystick for the PC. I hate trying to take out ship using that mouse drag crap.

Developers like this need to be supported. I bought copies of this game for my kids a few years back when they added multiplayer. I am hoping to convince my kids to donate keys for this game to a children's charity for Christmas so that others can enjoy the game as well.

No. Wrong. Developers like this DO NOT need to be supported. Quite the opposite.

They tried to pull a fast one, got caught and have been trying to save face and deliver on a fraction of promises ever since. I wouldn't play this if it was free.

It's amazing how a few patches and a couple years of silence and the casuals get amnesia.

Deliver the promised, finished product the day you ask for money, not 3 years later. That's not how any of this works and supporting it makes YOU part of the problem.

Supporting this type of behaviour is the reason we have games like Destiny, anthem, sea if thieves and fallout 76. Pure garbage.

Dang... I guess I will need to stop liking this game. I must be stupid or something.

Yeah, I am the dumbass apparently, I bought this on a Steam sale last year for like $29.99 and these damn devs keep shipping me free content updates, what's wrong with these people?

Nary a cash shop in site.....bunch o' clowns..how can I lord my wallet over everyone if they keep this up?

Back to POE, you should just see how much I've spent on inventory stash tabs.....whoa.

    ;)

It is a quandary, I am still on the side of those who think we are encouraging poor releases, though I do applaud how much they have done since launch. There were reasons for this apparently but you the player just got an unfinished game. However don't cut of your nose to spite your face, early next year if they keep up the updates I may well try it out myself.

There is a huge difference between EA/Activision doing this and a small developer doing this.  Especially when Hello Games is trying to make it right.  They could have just as easily abandoned ship and ran off with their earnings, but instead, they improved their game drastically (don't know from experience, but it's what I've been reading).

Sounds like they are doing a lot of good things for this game, unlike EA and that mess of a game they call Anthem.

I certainly agree there, the degree of fault when large gaming companies do this is far higher.

Naw, we're just too cool to strap all that stuff on our heads to play a game.

Besides, VR users can't even watch Netflix while gaming....weird.

VR is a gimmick and a fad. It's been brought back from the dead as many times as 3D damn near.

AR is where the real tech is. If we're ever gonna get a holodeck, it's AR that will bring it, not VR.
Its hard to say which will be the most popular, as neither one currently is there in terms of tech. VR and AR are currently little more than tech demo's and gimmicks, the hardware is not currently all that good and is certainly not popular enough to be classed as being 'mainstream'. Maybe one day VR etc. will be more popular, but the tech just is not there yet. :/

Look, if you bought the game and felt you got your money's worth or more out of it, GOOD.  If you're having fun, GOOD, have fun.

What I don't like is how people are "rewriting history."  Talking how the company or the people did such a great job releasing the game, when it was totally false.  When it was first released, the game was a sandbox with no sand.  I remember when Sean Murray went on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert to talk about the game and show off some gameplay and how there would be so much more to do and much more that would be added to the game when it would be released.  Totally false.  That demo was literally what the game was when it was released with nothing more to do or added.  Don't forget how he claimed that there would be multiplayer on release.  Totally untrue.  It wasn't some exaggeration or some incomplete feature, there was absolutely no multiplayer.

Hey, if you are having fun with the game and are looking forward to the update, GOOD.  But, don't make it seem like the company is going above and beyond for providing updates.  Updates are a normal part of software.  Just because other game developers do less, doesn't mean this company should receive credit for doing what should be standard in game development.  Is all that requires to receive praise is to add the word "free" before anything?  When updates for software have always been free?
Yeah, it sucked, and fell way short of what was promised. Nobody has forgotten that.

There are a lot of games released these days that suck and fell way short of what was promised.

Hello Games worked at it hard, for many years, despite derision at every turn, in an effort to raise the game from what it was to something akin to what was promised.

A lot of companies just write off their failures and move on.

They aren't getting credit for what they did up to and including launch. They are getting credit for doing as much as they can, relentlessly, to make things as right as they can.

These days, that deserves praise, because it is largely an abandoned practice in gaming.

That they aren't charging for expansion sized releases, while not milking their players with a cash shop or lock boxes is also notable these days.

I don't want this to be the new standard in game development, constantly lowering the bar because other companies are worse. It's disappointing when not milking players with a cash shop or lock boxes is applauding, but I guess that is now the new standard.

Is No Man's Sky just a AAA version of Early Access? Release FOR SALE a barebones game and eventually finish it years later while taking money during development? I don't want this to be a larger trend when game developers can just have players pay them money upfront before the game is finished to avoid taking loans and paying interest or bringing in investors and having to give them a share of the company and/or profits.

What if No Man's Sky was released in this current state two or three years ago? I wonder if the game would get anywhere near this level of coverage or exposure. Is that the trick? To set the bar so low, that any improvement, gets "newsworthy" praise.

Point of order, NMS was not a AAA game, its development was done by a 12 person team using their own funds. Sony Interactive was brought in only to publish and help market the game.

I didn't pay attention to the hype, so was pretty happy with the game at release; was def my chillax game. HG went through the ringer on this, low points being death threats, and kept at it & it seems to have paid off with these big juicy FREE updates.

Their ongoing support/updates is much appreciated.

We'll see what they've learned from this game's life cycle with how they release their next game.

    GL HG!

    Gut Out!

    What, me worry?
