Remnant: From the Ashes is a third person survival action shooter set in a post-apocalyptic world where chaos rules. It can be played alone or with up to two other people as you fight to survive this waking nightmare. Its Souls like combat gets the blood pumping and is an enjoyable experience solo or with others. It has a few things that are more annoying than game breaking which helps it to be a great game.

It's an average at best third person shooter with no teeth and tacked-on multiplayer. There's no reason to play it over Destiny or The Division or hell even Anthem.

Its not ment to be a shooter like Destiny, Division, or Anthem. Its ment to be a Dark Souls Shooter with Co-Op. Very different fan base's there.

Having a few hours into it so far I can say that it's a ton of fun. The overall gameplay and combat are really smooth and the story and asthetic are great. Costing less than a AAA game, I considered it a good investment to play with friends. It's a ton of fun in Co-Op with some friends

According to many reviews it actually has much more teeth then say Destiny with more challenging and difficult enemies and very tight and good combat. I am curious about the random generation myself, I am also wondering about post release updates and content.

Its also a slightly different genre with influences like roguelikes, Souls games etc. Its definitely not a looter shooter.

It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.

It is just huge resource waste....'

Are we playing the same games? Because I disagree wholeheartedly.

Either this game is not for you or you didnt really give it a try if you think this game is anything near Anthem quality...

Yeah you have no idea what you are talking about. This game is as much a looter shooter as it isnt. A combination of interesting environments, difficult encounters, and a surprisingly simple but in depth talent system makes for a much different experience than the other two. This is more like Monster Hunter, Dark Souls and Darksiders got blended together and while it doesn't shine as brightly as those it stands on its own quite strongly. The multiplayer in no way feels tacked on, the enemies scale in HP damage and quantity making for some really engaging trash encounters that truly feels dangerous. And calling it a generic third person shoot is just wrong, you rarely will use the cover system if you can even call it that, and more rely on quickly getting a shot in while maintaining awareness on enemies around you. Not to mention Mod builds and Melee builds do exist and are very powerful if done correctly.

Watched some people playing it on twitch and it looked fairly decent, you can play offline or coop via steam.

Will probably give it a try with my son.

Felt a little too "tumble, tumble, hit" for me. Just found myself meandering through the levels that way, and I don't really think of that as depth. Not a lot of dimensional aspects to the levels either, they do look nice though.

    1) you should try it and

    2) you might want to buy it on Steam because Steam allow easy refunds. The game isn't for everyone.

Overall quality is decent but I've asked for refund after 30 minutes in the first post-tutorial level. Gameplay just isn't that fun, there is barely any loot and characters look like they were designed for Switch (although they still look better than The Division 2). Also multiplayer isn't the core gameplay so it's kind of awkward (mobs scale to highest character/equipment in the group, for example).

In a trailer that i watched the players character equipped a sword. Does this game let you make melee characters?

Another game showing up in the rpg section of steam that clearly isn't an rpg at all and has no rpg elements either.  But I love how people complain the epic store has no genre filters.

This game is a surprise hit for me. I'm loving it so far. One of my top games of 2019.

I played about 4 hours of this over the weekend before asking for a refund. Know that this was a game I've been following for a while and had pre-ordered.
When I play games I like to feel that I'm progressing. At this point Remnant doesn't have progression since everything scales with you.
Sometimes it feels like pure luck that you win a fight since mobs will spawn right on top of you not giving you any time to dodge. And with no block or cover system you go down fast.
Lastly I agree with others that Multiplayer seems tacked on. There's no chat system in place and any progress you make only counts for the party leader. It's very wonky right now and seems more of an after thought.
And this is not a looter shooter. This is not meant to be another Destiny or Division. I love the look of the game and the story, but just not my thing with the difficulty. I like a challenge, but this is a bit above that to me.

Kind of. You can specialize in melee combat with tankier armor and trinkets that focus on melee damage and defense and you can melee through most of the game but there are a few bosses that just require you to shoot and ranged enemies are kind of hard to get with melee weapons although in my experience those enemies are a lot less common than the melee ones. You always have two guns and a melee weapon though and while there are a lot of melee weapon types with different effects and statistics the melee system is kind of simple - you have some kind of basic combo with lmb and a lunge attack that executes with lmb while sprinting.

Well, Torchlight 1 and 2 are the obvious outliers. So far it is the same model - box price and nothing to buy in-game.

The game is incredible so far! I'm enjoying just rolling around exploring and immersing myself in the game. The music and overall feel is dark and easy to get immersed. I love it. It has it's issues, what doesn't? There are a few but overall it's fun! I'm in game, gotta go!

weird to have a MP mode and then not add voice or text chat but one could argue there are ways around that even so only 4 maps, I will wait for a sale or more content.

I was quite enjoying the game until I got to the first boss and was just bombarded with infinite adds in a tight space.

The bosses are semi-random so I may have just got unlucky but that fight totally put me off the game. I beat it, after much frustration, but the way it played out meant I had to just get lucky with the AI and spawns. I just didn't feel in control, really.

Solo, this game is quite bad because everything is going at you like a hot mama. Multiplayer is how to play this game otherwise you have very little breathing room on some of the bosses and can often be stun locked.

Even tough it has an offline mode, it's meant (balanced) to be played with other people.

Still, if you're going to play it solo, better start normal then next run as hard and finally nightmare. The extra gear/levels will make the experience less frustrating.

    And that  means what...better? lmao

To me Dark souls and all the games that are similar are an absolute joke, not worth $10.

I don't think much of Destiny or the Division, they are both quite linear quite generic but they sail miles over top of any Dark Souls game.

I actually can't stand comparisons,if a dev wants to bait me in,you had better do it with mechanics, systems,a really good in depth design and NOT via OTHER game comparisons.Simple reason,if someone tells me this is similar to Dark Souls,i won't even take a look,so you can see how OTHER game comparisons are just bad.

So i looked for what i thought was the least sponsored/endorsed video to watch and hmmm'

Ok i only watched a few minutes so not like i know the game inside out. What i saw was really nice graphics.I did not see any sign of great combat and the game seemed to be very linear with not many if any real open landscape, mostly bridges and corridors, between two buildings type of graphics so not like they were hard pressed to make quality textures work when the total view/objects is rather small.

Imo seeing the little i did,if they actually put in some more effort in all areas, this could have been decent enough to get into because i like the art style, the graphics/textures are all nice and the animations seem decent as well.

I don't think anyone asked what you think on souls like games, sure the difficulty is over rated, but again, meh
