I would like to point out that most people that played from the beginning and of SWG and there abouts are not Anti SWG they are Anti SOE.
And as for MMO's as replacement therapy for the SWG, non, not a nut.
I seriously miss the 2 - 3.5 hours a day I spent harvesting my resouces and speculating on what Items I would be harvesting next and then checking SWG Crafters web site to see what others had found and then spending about 8 hours over a weekend checking the planets for resourses others may have missed, The constant experimenting in one town and the crafting in another, and then taking ones super tank out to the geno's and so on for materials.
I had a small town on Dant not quite large enough for a the Transport but was only 2k from the starport, and the running of the town and the clash of personalities was so god damn funny and occasionally irritating.
No WoW is a very very very poor replacement I have now played it for 8 months and Guildwars before that and everquest before SWG, then DAoC, Eve, CoH and there is only one game I can say got me super addicted, all the others are just very very shallow and promote grind over brain and hold no supprises, only a crafter/harvester would understand what I am saying here, God does WoW bore me, but thats where most of my guildies and city dwelers went after SWG.

Ok man i hope this helps i LOVE star wars ever since i was introduced to swg Even tho nge sucks i still play it agen just bought it agen I say nothing is better then it but im all anti cu and shit
I cant really find anything i like either. I've tried just about every free trial out there. For now, im playing Wow with my bf, but im so tired of it. I create a character, get to about 40, then get so bored i create another character, rinse and repeat. Raiding doesnt appeal to me, since i already have a fulltime job, and there is little else to do in Wow once you've reached 60, so i have no motivation to even finish a character lol. anyways.... when im not spreading my anti-soe propaganda, im playing Wow, and occasionally GW and any free trial out atm.

I think alot of the reason people are still posting about SWG is that there is no other game out there that offers what pre NGE did even excluding space. If there was a game that did most would have gone to that and not keep thinking back to how much SoE destroyed with the NGE.
Personaly I play CoH abit. The character generation is amazing, there is a fair bit of customisation in power choices even if it is level based (eck!) and it has the best combat I've found in a MMO. I also love the lack of any sort of loot economy.
1. There isnt really a game worth to pay for 2. I simply dont have the time which one SHOULD have for such games (social aspects etc.)
I fire up Oblivion from time to time. I patched the levelscaling out (there are good mods) and use "companion mods" (personal NPC slaves ) which makes it a bit more "lifey"...but still far away from anything online - but fun !
You have a pausebutton and you can turn off whenever you want to (need to) without an 1h "good bye" tour through all chatchannels....welcome change atm!
I played up to the CU and I really haven't found anythng to replace the old SWG. Tried DAoC and EQ2 but they just didn't hold me for long. I was hoping that DDO would rekindle my interest in MMO's but I heard that game really sucked. Right now my last hopes for a great MMO to play are Lord of the Rings Online or Star Trek Online. If those two turnout to be duds also, I'm giving up on MMO's.
I tired COH/COV but it got boring pretty quick. Went to Eve Online and remained there. The funny thing is that my corporation (which is a player group like a guild in swg) the majority of players came to Eve from SWG so we usually have a lot of laughs about old times. Mind you I never met these guys and gals in SWG before I came to Eve but they are really a good bunch.
Eve is fantastic. Both PVE and PVP (lots of PVP I might add) and much like the old SWG it has a pretty steep learning curve. Best graphicws ive ever seen, nice background music that doesnt shread your sanity like some of the SWG music did (though I still liked Lok's background music) No real humanoid movement as you are in a pod which controls a ship. You never land on planets and never walk on your own two feet. Some people must have that, me I could care less. Easily the best Sci Fi game ive ever played and being in a good corp IMHO is very important.
Ok enough of the hard Eve sell. You want a good game with a company that actually cares about its product? Join us at Eve Online and you will have a blast!
I played SWG just after launch up until just before the CU was published. I left and went to World of Warcraft (because most of my guild had migrated there). It was fun for a while (about 6 months), but then I got bored with the same crap over and over, and cancelled.
I then tried EVE Online. I spent two months in that game. It has a lot of potential, and there are some strong similarities between it and the pre-CU Galaxies as far as the professions and player-driven economy go. However, there were a number of reasons why I left, the largest of which was the fact that I just got tired of my avatar being a spaceship. There's something psychologically compelling for me about having an avatar that I can relate to, something with legs that walks on a ground. If they had added a ground game, it would really have kept me (something like STO is planning to offer).
I then went back to World of Warcraft. However, all my guildmates had advanced well beyond me by that time, and because of the strict level-limited geographics, I could never again group with them. I pretty much started playing the game solo. I cancelled my account again a couple of weeks ago for that reason, but also because the personality of World of Warcraft changed after last Christmas. The populations exploded, causing not only network- and server-related issues (wait queues), but the influx of new people did some damage to community aspects of the game.
I got a 14-day trial key for Auto Assault (thanks, Shawn!), and tried it for a week and a half. I just removed it from my machine. I don't think it's a bad game, but it just didn't fit me. It's another of those vehicle-as-avatar things, and it's just-blow-shit-up type of gameplay isn't what I'm looking for.
So, now, I'm playing nothing. I'm spending my "playing" time here on MMORPG.com, looking for something better, and nursing a small, glimmering hope that pre-CU SWG will come back.
-------------------------------------------------------------------- As ye SOE, so shall ye weep.
After two years, I'm still enjoying the waters in World of Warcraft. Unlike other mmos I've played, I've yet to feel the need to log-in just to preform some mundane task. For example, updating vendors or relocating extractors in SWG.
I've always said WoW's more of a game, than an experience. For me, that's just fine. ^_^
Ico Oh, cruel fate, to be thusly boned. Ask not for whom the bone bones. It bones for thee.
Tried Eve Online...... I don't like the idea of playing a ship... I like space and flight but I want a ground game, exploration, and yes PvP.
If I could find something as emersive as Pre-CU SWG then I would buy into it. Trouble is, it seems that gaming companies are not trying to create bigger and better and I can't find anything compatible to Pre-CU SWG on a stratagy/ PvP/ Roll Play level.
If you find something, send me a mail. Everything else seems boring to me.

Coming from Anarchy Online (good game, but oudated graphics, worth a try anyway) I've played SWG in CU era, reaching jedi padawan. Made into a very nice community (still in touch thanks to a web page/forum). Tried NGE for a couple of times but got bored and angry. Tried every mmorpg out there...although EVE is a very good game, man, I need an humanoid avatar...in fact I need my sexy twi'lek!! I was really happy playing SWG in CU, I mean for real.
I think SOE made me angry and un-passionate to any other mmorpg out there, and prolly this will take some time to heal...
Meantime I'm testing offline rpg games and 2ww flight simulators (il2 series, awesome).
SOE, you had so much potential in your hands...oh man, lol.
Yeah, I tried to escape from SWG back into AO, because it's the only truly viable sci-fi mmo out there. Unfortunately the bugs from 3 years ago are still evident, and finding people to play with can be a pain in the ass. It's a shame too, if that game were only slightly better I'd consider playing it again.
EVE looks good, but it's primary focus is all space. I'm not too keen on that.
But in the meantime I'm playing NWN and some FPS games. I don't even WoW that much anymore and should cancel my account. I, like a good number of folks here, await a pre-cu SWG type experience. I doubt I will be seeing one anytime soon unless I *make* one.

[MMOz] AC1/2, AO, DAoC, EQ1/2, SoR, SWG, UO, WAR, WoW
We all know pre-cu was SWG's best times. I would rating the pre-cu days an 8/10.
EVE Online does _not_ have avatars to run around and it's an extremely indepth game. I rate EVE Online a 9/10.
If EVE Online had avatars that could be used while docked in stattions to do trading or partake in mini-game sub quests and maybe once they introduce planet side control along the lines of an RTS system I'll give it a 10/10. These things are on the developers wish list and they are currently being worked on...

Personally I don’t play any MMORPG at the moment as I haven’t found anything as mind-challenging and compelling as pre-CU…

And I'm playing EVE (although the novelty is starting to wear off) and I just got a trial for AutoAssault.
SOE knows what you like... You don't!
And don't forget... I am forcing you to read this!
It has absolutely nothing in common with any SWG, but it's one of the most solid products out there right now.
Ranging from 'casual' to 'hardcore dedication' (depending on RL activities):
Auto Assault
Saga of Ryzom
EVE
.............
When in doubt, troll.
