Over the weekend it might have been a struggle to play WoW Classic, or any Blizzard game for that matter. Blizzard's services were disrupted thanks to massive DDoS attacks which hit the servers Saturday and Sunday.

Do it one time and you should do 5 years....repeated increase by 5 yrs per attack.

    Cybercrime is no laughing matter.

I doubt they knock. More like the splintering of wood as the door explodes into pieces.

I agree, never said I was giggling. Im talking about the hacker, if they wanna test there skills or w/e, and this doesnt actually do harm (if they were to do it 1 time just to say they can do it) since  its just a pause to peoples entertainment. I played games that had DDOS attacks and felt that annoyance, but at the end of the day no one got hurt.

When I said "nothing wrong with it", that was my mistake. What I ment was that it doesnt bother me, not that its ok for them to do it. The people that do it with hate, and spamming it, totally love seeing them locked up.

Interruptions of services happens, with power outtages/maintenances/server crashes, to me its just another notch on the list.

I mean, hacking is a valueable tool in our world today. I would bet hacking has saved millions of lives due to goverments being able to stop some terror before it happens. Yes it gets miss used, but its an art like anything else that has to do with creativity.

I highly doubt a DDOS,it would show an extreme level of incompetence.
Furthermore, according to the many security businesses,DDOS are on the rise but for "financial" gains and not just to be annoying.
    Example used for crypto mining.

FTR,i did feel problems within Hearthstone but not of a DDOS nature,it simply felt like overloaded servers which could happen to any game on the weekend.

So a giant like Cloudfare can thwart tons and tons of overwhelming DDOS traffic,$200 a month, you think Blizzard can't afford 200 a month...pffft.Then on top of that ,the software would within minutes depending on how complicated, start to block IP;s and from various regions which of course nail down the hackers used IP traffic within minutes.

So to me everything does not add up,either Blizzard is incredibly cheap and doesn't care or incredibly stupid. You see a DDOS is not going to cost Blizzard anything this past weekend,it simply disrupts service for a couple days. However if the attackers really were out there trying to cause issues, they would have done it on vanilla release day a week ago,so even the timing seems out of place.

DDOS isn't something you can just "fix", you can try to prevent it using ip blockers and other software but because the internet is a protocol and accepts requests you can still be DDOSed.

It seems you are unaware of what this type of attack is.  It can be anything, it just needs to overload the server, it can hit a page or function or image over and over and over again until the server can't handle the requests and if they are constant requests in all different ips, nothing can help you.  Cloudflare and other sites as such only work by region banning and it's not fixing the problem it's stagnating it.  Basically if you are open to the public, in some form or fashion you are susceptible to a DDOS attack.

There's not much chance of splintering or knocking.  These types of attacks will continue until the perpetrators are prosecuted.  Sadly, that doesn't happen far enough.  When it does, a legitimate company will hire the criminal and give them a nice cushy job.  So much for business ethics.

I know very well what it is, but if was a kid doing so its easy to prevent, it hard to prevent a lets call it a comercial one, who the point of origin can't be tracked since its from almost everywhere, hence why I said if a kid can mess with the servers the problem here is more blizzard then the kid

Sorry I wasn't aware a kid couldn't buy or download a software to do it... like I originally said in my original post...

I wasn't aware that the age/location of the person responsible had been determined!
I hypothesized it was probably a teenager, but the poster quoting me kept saying kid and apparently in his mind a kid can't download software to DDOS.
a kid can, but if he can bring down a company down alone, then the problem is not the kid, taht is what i'm saying, but you are so hung up on your post then can't even think

It's a tool, the "kid" is doing nothing but clicking a button.  It has nothing to do with any intelligence or "how weak" a system is.  If tool has a bot net with tens of thousands of IP pools.  GOOD LUCK!

Could be paid too. Conspiracy can happen anywhere!

Seriously tho, if its for giggles, do it 1 time to a company just to sya you got em, nothing wrong with it. But repeated, not cool.

Do it one time and you should do 5 years....repeated increase by 5 yrs per attack.

    Cybercrime is no laughing matter.

All that is dandy and all except we aren't dealing with hackers here we are dealing with teenagers that bought or downloaded a tool that DDOS's a server.  There is no "hacker" here just a bunch of fuck wits.

you know that saying that you only state then blizzard are full of idiots who can't stop kids from messin they servers right?

also tell me when was WoW not DDoS? tis so used to that they should already know how to prevent such, same way a DDoS is easy to be made it is easy to stop.

plus I don't doubt it was a player who used such to get back at someone

It's difficult to articulate how ignorant this is. Stop pretending you know anything about this. I have little experience with it, but watching you comment on it is embarrassing.
