After being requested on the Blizzard forums by players, the company has announced it will be opening a dedicated realm for its Latin American players.

    My original classic WOW guild back in 04 - 05ish had a quite few Brazilians. Our off-tank use to run in before pulling and would scream some shit over vent in Portuguese as his warcry or something , it was quite hilarious and Epic at the same time.

      The best part was , no one ever asked him exactly what he was saying, It would have ruined it, I do know the other Brazilians in the guild got a kick out of it, he was probably calling everyone a jack ass

    I think it's great they are doing this.

    EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, GW2 CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests

    Title says South America, body says Latin America. Correct me if I'm wrong, but those are not the same thing. Nevermind, I can google. I'd never heard SA included with Central America and the Carribean in "Latin America".

    SA is part of LA along with Central and the Caribbean. All three regions speak Spanish officially which is a romanic language derived from Latin, hence Latin America.

    I'm sure that's exactly what you found upon googling it, but i'm only mentioning it because as someone who grew up in the caribbean i've always heard all three South, Central and the Caribbean as part of LA, for the reason i just gave above.

    Most Californians are not Latinos but Lations are the largest demographic by % 

    37% is white, so only a 2% behind Latinos

    Man, I play with some good guys from SA. I hope they stick with the NA realms instead of switching to the SA ones.

    So that's why Thalnos doesn't have a queue at primetime on a weekend. It was apparently the unofficial Brazilian server and they make up probably 30% of the population (at least on Horde).

    Can't say I'll miss them and their gibberish. One minute your group is working well together, then one guy joins and starts speaking Portuguese, everybody else starts speaking Portuguese and they all refuse to use English from that point forward. 

    All servers should be language locked. Speak the designated language or GTFO. Don't go to a French server and speak Russian.

    You see the way it woks is that Latinos are white, black, native americans and even asian... go figure. What makes them Latinos is that they speak Spanish or Portugese, not their race.

    Pathetic approach by Blizzard, opening a Latin American server to "protect" the racist bastards who can't deal with a different language. If the server was at least hosted Sao Paulo, I think players would care and transfer... But placing the server in Boston and making it "Latin American" is pathetic.

    You two realize that Portuguese is a European language right? From the country of Portugal? On the Iberian peninsula? You know, next to Spain? Where Europeans live?

    Context is a big thing you know - which you are failing to grasp.

    My statement about new servers has to do with the game growing so much that they need more capacity to handle more players- that is not happening.

    Are you saying that WoW classic is still growing in population right now and that this Brazilian server is being added due to overcrowding?

    Because that would be fake news indeed
    They did increase the capacity of the servers significantly, hence all the 'layering' in the game, because server capacities have been increased, it also meant some of them were no longer listed as being 'full' that they are all showing really high populations despite the servers being substantially increased in size is telling.
    Personally i wish they would do a listing like Eve Online does and show current server player numbers, it would certainly erase any question of the player numbers declining. :/

    The server is located in Boston like the rest of the EST servers.
