Is there ANY games out there similar to SWG?

SagoSago Member Posts: 516

Hey All -

Is there ANY games out there similar to SWG? Doen't have to be scifi. Scratch Eve ... it left me wanting more out of the game.

I am like totally upset with Vanguard as it was going to be my SWG replacement if it had all worked out. That all came to a screeching halt with the announcement that Sigil got into bed with $OE.

Is there any sandbox game out there that is skill based, crafting and player housing/cities? Is there anything at all?

Single player games are boring me know since I played SWG. And I ABSOLUTELY REFUSE to play anything connected in ANY way to $OE.

I feel your pain. I was also a master architect. I loved making my friends large houses and decorating was a real blast. I can tell you the following games are no subsitute to pre-CU SWG:

Guild Wars, EQ II, PlanetSide, WOW, DAOC.

Nothing compares to pre-cu SWG. I wish I knew the original development team. I would hire them in a heartbeat and start my own Game Company.

I wish, but unfortunately no. I've been looking for a replacement for awhile. I was semi looking at Vanguard but was a little disappointed in some of the concepts it had. So as far as I can tell there is nothing anyware comparable to Pre-CU SWG, at least nothing announced yet.

Aside from everything that Pre-CU SWG offered, there are some games on the horizon [at this point still may not offer anything similar to SWG]

    1. Hero's Journey

    2. 9 Dragons

    3. Stargate SG-1: Stargate worlds

    4. Star Trek Online

    IMO,

Saga of Ryzom is the only thing out there that I could find to be a sandbox style game.  They have a trial so you might want to check it out.  There support staff is unprecedented in my experience with them.  Apparantly they fight over tickets and I had an answer to my request within 3 minutes of submission.

Saga of Ryzom, you say?  Might have to check that out, it would be a great change of pace from what I experienced before.

Ultima Online? It's basically the same concept as SWG. Well, SWG was sort of UO2.

I second Ryzom. I've also had an exceptional experience with the CSRs. It's got a great crafting system, purely open ended gameplay. In many ways, it very much resembles SWG when it first launched - right down to the grinding (it has over 200 levels per skill). The only problem with Ryzom is that there hasn't been any significant content additions (or ANY) since launch. Over a year later, the landscape is exactly the same only with PvP outpost. The crafting system is still limited to three types of armor. The amazing skill creation system is hardly changed at all.

However, I hope this will all change with Ryzom Ring.

Hmm, I will have to explore this one.   Ive had nothing but miserable gaming for months now.

Dont feel bad guys I think we have all had the miserable experience of trying to find a replacement game since SWG died.  Ryzom is the closest to a sandbox style game that I could find.  I have tried countless numbers of games and spent a ton of money in the process.

The games I am currently playing are:

Lineage II - PvP all the time but the graphics are nice. Grind is terrible once you reach the higher levels and the game is full of  bots.  Most of the old guild is in this game so that is why I am there.

Saga of Ryzom - Sandbox style just not sci-fi.  Dont understand why its so hard to make a decent sci-fi game.  Im not much of a flyer so even in SWG the autopilot was my freind otherwise I just spun in circles lmao  That makes Eve out of the question for me.

Seed - This game was released way to soon but at least the devs didnt try to blow smoke up your arse about it and said they were forced by investors to release it.  Its improved and its kind of different but I wouldnt suggest trying it out atm.  This game has ZERO combat which is kinda different.

I will be checking out the next available release which looks to be DnL.  From there probably try Heros Journey but definately not going to do the whole Sony - Vanguard fiasco.  Good luck to everyone finding a replacement and if I finally find one that meets some of my expectations that I lost with SWG I will post it on the board.

Maybe I need to check more about Tabla Rasa but the time I did it struck me as being the NGE but probably with a decent FPS system.
