That's interesting. In the 7 day trial I did the entire harbor area solo with my new char, and I did die the first time until I learned what I'd be facing, and then I would go back and complete it solo.
It was fun. But I could imagine getting to the end having done all the missions etc. and then what? Without a persistent world it would be little more than playing a non-internet game. How many times have I finished a non-internet game and all I have to show for it is a great character with all this uber stuff, and no where to go with it.
I guess I could go to the tavern and dance around, like some people seem to like to do.
Go play Eve or Ultima or Lineage II at least until DDO adds content, then you can go back and do that dungeon crawl, with the same encounters always in the same spots etc. I found it extremely easy once you knew where the encounters were and what you'd be facing.
I don't see why DDO couldn't add content and make it a great game.
I played the free trial too... didn't love it, but didn't hate it either.
Originally posted by djnexus I think is mainly focused towards table top rpg players and people who like forced grouping...
You were expecting otherwise? D&D is an RP based game. You play it with a group of people. Sure, Turbine could have done a lot more with the game, but then it wouldn't be D&D anymore.

I'm just wondering, since what they have now shows such great promise, would they could they please add content? It would be really great. I bet they have plans to expand the world. I look forward to seeing what they do with it.
Tried the 7 day trial. The real levels of customization to stats/feats etc was quite refreshing , loved the loot system (always come out with something) and dungeons themselves are nicely made.
but...
spent ages looking for groups , helped a few lower poeple through quests and stuff but couldnt get anyone to help me with the Harbour quests needed for entrance to the market. Seems most poeple just want to do their quests , stuff everyone else.
Thought about it more... i) couldnt log on for less than couple hour sessions as not enough time for a group ..no solo, crafting etc.. (in wow/eq2 thats not a problem) 2) poeple just didnt seem very helpful. Most poeple want to do their own thing ...Which in a group only game stinks.
If the game was $5 a month all problems aside I might subscribe but for $15 is mutton dressed as lamb.
Originally posted by djnexus I was skeptical so I downloaded the free trial and..... deleted it within an hour of playing, this game I think is mainly focused towards table top rpg players and people who like forced grouping... theres no crafting I was on peak time not many people at all on, and the quests when you remake a charecter are almost identical except you do them on 2 diffrent harder levels... and forced grouping bleh gotta have at lease SOME solo content incase none of the guildies or friends are on.. I hope Turbine really turns Lord of the Rings Online into something worth playing and worthy of Tolkiens praise if he were still alive. I really wanted to like it but I didnt.... no bashing just giving a opinion of what I thought of it. Ill stick to Guild Wars and Auto Assault and wait for Vanguard.
you probably didnt open up the player search window. that will show you all the people who are on at the same time you are. if you did you will see a huge list of players. most likely everyone you didnt see was inside instances. if you only played it within one hour, you wouldnt have seen much during that time. you should have spent like a whole day to actually experence with the grouping.
if i remember the DnD table top is based on grouping. if turbine is trying to create a game that is based on the table top and want it to be closely resembled to it. then they would need to make all the quests be done in a group. DnD didnt have crafting either, its base on adventuring, so why would turbine create crafting in a game that didnt have it on the table top?
really if your friends or guild members isnt on at the same time as you. you then need to actually look for a group to go with. all you do is type /lfg and with in 10 minutes you could get an invite. turbine made it really easy for you and for the people who looking to form a group with the player window. to get the player window all you need to do is push O.
Have played: CoH, DDO EQ2, FFXI, L2, HZ, SoR, and WW2 online

Apparently you didn't see yesterday's announcement regarding solo content.
