The community in DAOC was 10x better than the community in WoW and had a lot more mature people so hopefully that continues in Warhammer.

I couldnt help but remember logging into WoW, and seeing a bunch of loud mouth 15 year olds cussing and being annoying.Hell thats 90% of the reason i quit.. honest to god! I hope they dont ruin this game too.... Great games dont come out every day, and Wow was a great game, and now its ruined.. battlegrounds ruined it!!! Ill take that comment to my grave!! anyways...

And also is it jus me or did Wow tottally jack Warhammers shiat? lol

well i have found that if you want to avoid the kiddies .. go to smaller servers, or RP servers ...

the kiddies always flock to the big servers .. and they despise RP ... they have too much ADHD for RP ...

radiant was home on SWG ( smaller server) , lucan delere was my home on eq2 ( RP server), and victory on COV/COH ( smaller server )  to name four,  ive played more games ... and i was happy with all of em .. small populations, mature kids .... SWG always had some kiddie " leet" types but ya couldnt avoid it cuz of the jedi fanbois ...

so thats my advice to ya ... but i think warhammer is gonna be the next big thing.. bigger than peanutbutter and jelly sandwiches even

Not all 15 year olds act stupid, there is a word called mature, i'm 14 and ya I hate those kind of people and WoW was not my first MMO, neither was Runescape.

I agree that the WoW community is the worst one out there of every game I've played so far,
and I'm not talking about the forums, I'm talking about how people act ingame.
And it's true that age doesn't have anything to do with it, I was 12 years old when I started playing DAoC from it's release, and still I managed to get friends that I talk to daily, people I met ingame back then, most of them twice my age.

The problem, I think, is that WoW is a simple-minded game, hence dragging simple minded people to it.
I mean, there is practially no differences between the different races besides looks, and that both sides have exactly the same classes are just a sign of how lazy Blizzard has become. Even RYL's 2 "sides" have classes with some differences to them, and that isn't exactly what I'd call a high-budget best-selling game if you know what I mean :P And I'm not even going to go into the so-called "proffesions" with their "crafting" :/

I would rather play with kids then closed-mindedness like yours. There are several kids in the guild I am a member of in WoW that are under 15 and they are outstanding members. However we happen to have several adults that are just outright tools.

Leave age out of it, PEOPLE in general can be real asses online age aside.

Its true that people of all ages can be asses.  However, you'd be stupid not to realize that the vast majority of teenagers view the world very differently from players in their late 20's or 30's.

In my experience, the idea that teenagers tend to like to play good-looking toons also has merit.  It was an absolute certainty on my WoW server that the Horde average age was much higher than the Alliance.  If you were putting together teams, it was entirely possible to both raid and PvP with only a few, mature teenagers on the Horde side.  In IRC we found out that our *average* age (around 26) was higher than the oldest members of the Alliance teams we were facing.

Your mileage may vary, but its worked very well for me.  To get the best of a game's community, simply:

Ok so your point is kids don't like horde so they suck or something? I really don't see what your point was. When I was in EVE the leader of the corp I was in was 16 and the second up was I think a whole year older. Was a great corp with alot of new ideas and alot of fun.

I am not sure which is worse, they bad aspects of the WoW community or watching everyone talk through their ass here about how bad the WoW community is.

The quote you cut started with somebody else's post and then switched to my post in the middle.  I've cut out the other post so that my words are more clear.

Anyway, I was making several points in my post, none of which were that  complicated or difficult to understand.  I'll try to make them simpler for you if you like, by bulleting them.

    1)  I agree people of all ages can be asses.

    2)  Some older players prefer to play with other older players because they can relate to them.

    3)  In my experience, playing uglier toons in the last few games I've played has lead to an older population of players.  You may or may not find this to be the case, but try it if you do like to play with older players.

So there it is, laid out and bit easier to understand.  Please note that at no point did I say that kids suck at playing the game.  Recognize, though, that the way teenagers behave is *usually* very different from the way that people in their late 20s and 30's behave.  There are aspects to *generic* teenager behavior that some older players prefer to avoid when possible.  I suggested one way to try and improve the older players' odds of playing with an older player base and gave an example of how it had worked out well for me.

If there is any other confusion about the point I was making please let me know.

Ive played WoW. I'd rather repel the majority of their players, not attract them. They came from Diablo 2 and Counterstrike with their leet speak and crap, not the MMO community. I'd rather attract fans of the Warhammer Universe who havn't really MMO'd before, as well as the more intelligent and community based gamers from DAoC and FF 11.

I dont need WAR to be the most popular of all the games. Just the best. Let those WoW clowns stay where they are.

  • SedaiSedai Member Posts: 17
Myself, I have nothing bad to say about WoW or it's players/community. I just got bored of it. It happens, I guess. In any online game you are going to have immature and idiotic players that are going to annoy you. It sucks, yea, but that's the way it is. I just want WAR to be a little more original and less dead-ended. I can deal with the morons just give me some dang fun already!!
  • Zaniac290Zaniac290 Member Posts: 2
I too just got tired of WoW, because it just got boring and repetative.  Well, the community, for my server, it wasn't the fact that they were all immature (some were, of course).  It just seemed most of them were stupid

  • SedaiSedai Member Posts: 17

/agree there Zaniac. I think most on every WoW server are fairly stupid. Too many kiddies playing the game but, like I said, that's always gonna be part of it. Though it was alwys fun when they talked smack and wanted to dual and then I would cut them to pieces with my Obsidian Edged Blade. lol

I am just hoping that WAR will have enuff gameplay to keep my attention for more than 2 months.

  • KarandorKarandor Member Posts: 113

WoW has kids and such because it is very uncomplicated and it's very hard to screw up early and die a whole lot. DAoC was not like this. As a first MMO experience I died a whole lot in those first 20 levels because I had no idea what I was doing. I was, however, very persistent and ended up playing the game for 2-3 years (on and off).

I've decided that the maturity of a game's community is largely proportional to the learning curve. Harder games get better people but fewer people. By hard I mean how easy it is to grasp how to play the game. WoW is easy, DAoC I would put in the middle and for something hard I'd say www.freeallegiance.org. <--- That is a game that we're having trouble growing the community because it is a VERY difficult game.

If WAR is too easy to play it will probably end up like WoW, so yeah, pick an ugly race.

talkin' about communities and mmorpgs i noted that well balanced games have "mature" communities, generally...

games in which there are "exploit" possibilities have a less "mature" community, tendencially...

games with some parts not well developed, specially pvp, can turn in games with problematic communities; even if you r a mature and serious player you could have problems to adapt... if the wave is big and strong find a board or drown...

I do not agree that every game has its "kids"

DAoC didnt have a high young teen population, and those kids that did play didnt make a huge impact since they couldnt level up, couldnt dominate so they quit for the most part. "Gen Y" wants to be uber, wants to have attention, wants to dominate and dosent want to work hard. If they cant do all of this they are not happy.

My Guild in DAoC had 1 person who was "young" and she was a senion in Highschool. The only other young person was my 9 year old nephew and he never got past level 30.

Now in WOW. my nephew , now 11, is a rank 10 level 60 with a full set of high epic items... that just shows me how easy and milk fed the game is. But in my late 20's I am consitered old by most. At any given time you can walk around any capital city and find people running around naked, yelling BOOBIES over general chat, using the yell command and telling stupid jokes that only make sense if your  teen, dancing and and wanting EVERYONE to dance with them so they feel important, the games age just seems SO VERY LOW it just amazes me.

I hope W.A.R. will be a very difficult and hard game and wont have lots of silly things that attract kids.
Infact we are already planning what realm we are going to play based off of what will attract which type of people.

Humans- Everyone will want to play a human, this will bring about too many n00bs and not serious people. So the population will be high but the skill level will lack because of this. It will be like Albion and ALliance in DAoC and WoW

Elves- Every kid will want to play a "HAWT" elven babe. Elves will be the stealthers and archers which are Teenie bopper favorites.

Dwarves- No glam, Not cute, No magic, Heavy melee,no stealthers, gruddy and grimy.... sounds good to me! More like Midgard

Dark Elves- Will be almost as bad as elves but not as bad because everyone will want a "hawt blonde" babe insted of a hot black skined babe with stark white hair.

Chaos- Will no dobut have the 3rd most people next to human and elves. Will be too many noobs for my taste. You will get a fair amount of evil kiddies too or Beta Geeks who want to be "kewl evil pwn" gods.

Orcs- After seeing the LIFE game play at E3 this realm took a huge dive for me. too many "cute" and zany things that kids would like on the goblin. Giant foot steping on people as a spell, nose picking, small cute and cuddly.... they will be as bad as gnomes in WoW and Lurikeen in DAoC...

Looks like dwarves will be my best choice.. too bad its a 2 sided war insted of 3 sided.

    Human+elves Vs Chaos+Dwarves Vs Darkelves+Greenskins

This game will atract the biggest number of  ex-WoW-ers, be that a good thing, hardly, but the time will tell.

Maybe I'm wrong, but that's just the feeling I got from reading the WAR forum.

On a side note, I just wonder howmany WOW kids are actually aware that they are ones!?

I don't know if I'd agree with that.  I played DAoC for a few years and my server was usually about full (Merlin), the immaturity in DAoC was nothing, absolutely nothing, compared to what I and many others experience(d) in WoW.  Perhaps it's because it attracted the B.Net crowd, I don't know.  Saying that the immaturity problem in WoW doesn't exist is like saying that gas prices aren't high enough.

This game will attract mainstream kids and adults because I have a feeling it'll be fun from the get go (if it's going to be fun at all). Mainstream = easy to pick up and play. Just like mainstream music, movies, etc.

It's an honest truth that the more popular the game, movie, music, even art, the more % of the crowd that dig it are likely to be "immature"(in the case of WoW, leetspeak kiddies with attitude problems or adults with attention spans and brains of a leetspeak kiddie). It doesn't mean the game is bad, the music is bad, nor the movie or art are bad, it just means they are highly appealing.

Here's to hoping that WAR will have a nice system for punishing battleground scenario leavers and any other kind of annoying exploiter, flamer, stalker, etc.

Edit: And to the guy who doesn't like goblins: I'm in my mid 20s and I do like goblins. They are a part of what made the Warcraft universe (partly the reason why I didn't continue my WoW subscription was because you couldn't play one) stand out from the rest of the mundane medieval fantasy MMOs. The squig herders are a funny concept as well that will be amusing on the battlefield. If you think juvenile physical humour(crossed eyes, farting noises, etc) is not funny, you'd best steer clear of WAR. After all they did mention an orc defecating onto a pie and eating it and some dwarves getting drunk, naked and jumping a waterfall inside barrels in the MMORPG.com interview.

Me, I'm gonna play a dwarf since they're greedy drunkards.

When I started playing DAoC I was 12 or so, Im 17 now, but I wasnt immature, and I came to know alot of the players in the gaming Community in (Nimue, Hib) (Guinever, Hib) servers and most found me to be alot older than I actually was. I even met people around my age that werent immature, the fact of the matter is that the entire DAoC population was full of adults which set better examples for the rest of the players, older players seemed to get alot of respect from those of younger generations. To be honest DAoC had the best Community you could possibly ask for.

I played Blizzard games before I found DAoC and MMORPGS in all, I had played Starcraft/diablo/1/2/exp/warcraft1/2/3 in which this community had about 10 times the amount of people playing than in DAoC which is the reason to why the immaturity levels are alot higher.
My point is that not all people who are younger are immature, and immaturity is based on the examples set forth in the community that plays the games, I think that since alot of people who played DAoC will be coming to Warhammer will be able to do that for this game as well, but will find those that are immature to be in the mix no doubt.

in all fairness to the original poster, the wow community is god awful.  i came from swg to wow, and the difference was like night and day.  i dont even necessarily know that they are all kids, but i played on numerous servers, and they were all bad.  i just learned to ignore them, but no matter how much you try, they can still get under your skin.

luckily i was in a good guild, that does not put up with drama bs, and were still good enough to handle all the end game raid content as well as dominate in pvp.  i can't say the same for a lot of the other big name guilds, they were a lot of times, the biggest problems when it came to bad community

    anyway thats my opinion.

And that's exactly what they got, the least common denominator.  It's evident from the giant breasted jiggly breasted night elves, what 15 yr old  boy isn't going to want a game with that?

Uhhh........Have you ever seen a witch elf model?  Or a Slanneshi Daemonette?

Well, in my opinion, the most immature WoW players were the PvPers.  Now there's a game built around all those Stunlocking rogues (and TKM's).  Yeah, not sure how it's not going to be full of spawn point campers and exploiters.

Why do people such as your self play on PVP servers in the first place????????

Why does everyone think WOW is filled with lil kids? I must be on the wrong realm then cuz the one im on has mostly adults on it.
