Disney/Marvel PC MMO petition

I am new to this so please share this to Reddit, Facebook, Twitter, ect. I am not a social media person so hopefully someone chips in.  I highly doubt many Disney developers come to MMORPG.com but maybe we will get lucky.  I do know that if it gets big enough on social media that Disney will at least realize that there is a fanbase that wants this game. I am sure they have discussed this from time to time but right now is the time (2-3 years from now) to strike to make a Marvel MMO correctly to take advantage of the cash market.  Marvel is at it's highest right now grossing billions from their movies.  Invest some of that money to make a Marvel MMO (on the PC..NO mobile except apps that allow you trade/sell/ect in game).  There are no other legit games in the market that are a real competition to this game.  Marvel has dominated DC in movies and why not expand that to the MMO market.

Think about all they could accomplish with a MMO.  Imagine having monthly events that continue the stories on the movies.  Release xpacs or mini updates that expand on moments in the movies they couldn't dive into deeper due to movie budget (Like a mission in game that expands on what Pepper Potts was doing to assist Iron Man when he was trapped in space or helping Nick Furry with some behind the scenes missions to secure assets that will help the Avengers/Spider-Man/SHIELD). Just so much that could be accomplished.  This game has the potential to be HUGE.  The Marvel Universe is huge and a MMO NEEDS to be made.  WHEN this game happens and becomes a huge success, it will also entice Disney to make a Star Wars MMO as well.  Disney could dominate the MMO market along with movies if they were smart and invested into a legit mmo.  They can also expand and make a Online Card Game, RTS game, ect. Not a Mobile game (for the MMO).  Not some crappy publishing company like NCSOFT or Gamigo ect.  Get a legit development crew with lots of experience (they have the money to make this happen).

Imagine if they treated the MMO market like they did their movies.  Make a Marvel Universe MMO.  5-6 years after make a MMO based off the X-men storylines.  Few years later make one based off the Guardians of the Galaxy Story lines.  Punisher Universe (with all the Hell's Kitchen good and bad guys).  Spider-Man MMO, Thor Storyline (the entire history with his Father ect). So many comics to choose from.  Masters of Kunfu Comics MMO, Iron Fist, X-Force, X Factor, Fantastic Four, ect.  These could all be Updates/xpansions or stand alone MMO's if Disney really wanted to just own the market.

Just think of the Apps that could spawn from this and live events.  Blizzcon is HUGE and brings in a ton of money for Blizzard.  Now imagine Disney holding a MarvelCON for the MMO at Disneyworld or any of their Disney Parks (Euro/Japan/Cali).  Lots more money for the local hotels, amusement park, and paying for virtual tickets to the event for the live stream.  No P2W.  B2P or Subscriptions online but the cosmetic/mount shop for this game would just be a jackpot for Disney when it comes to money.

Please sign the petition and share it everywhere please.  If someone could link it to reddit and link that in here I will update it.  I really want a Marvel MMO.  I know there are a few hero games in production and while I am eager to try them, even if they hit CoH level for population...they will never be Marvel.  Help me...help us:)

DC Online was released at the wrong time and focused on the wrong thing.  It was mainly a PVP game that copied many things from City of Heros...and made the game to be played with the PS4 in mind.  Just changed how the game plays/feels ect.  Also while Batman/Superman/ect are very popular they don't have the global backing currently that Marvel does with their over a decade long dominance.   I rather MUO be more like WoW honestly with strong points from other games.  (maybe Tab target combat like Archeage or Action Combat like Black Desert (Tera).  But there needs to be legit raiding, Dungeon runs, pvp (instant not open world), space combat, under water swimming, ect)  don't limit it.

The problem is that people wouldnt want to be an average Joe they would want to be Captain America. one of the reasons I didn't play Marvel Heroes is that it was immersion breaking seeing 100 deadpools.

Edit: I am in a writers room for a Hulu TV show. So as crazy as it is to me I technically work for Disney. So I am here. I have no clout though. I am not even writing scripts as I am not high enough on the totem pole for that yet.
There is the Multiverse and time travel options to fix this.  But no, you can't "Main" Capt America BUT allow it to happen during raids and some missions.  Imagine Raids setup where you run in with 20 people.  During every raid boss you team up with a known superhero like Spider man.  Except during a boss fight (say there are 9 raid bosses) you pick one raid member to control Spiderman.  Make Spiderman be apart of the mechanics where if you fail playing spiderman, the raid fails.  (Spiderman needs to web the adds and throw them into the boss during certain phases).  Or let there be more then 1 hero..like have the Fantastic Four raid boss. You control the Four and the other 16 people support and kill.  Allowing your characters to buff and heal the FF4.
This allows you to play them BUT be your own hero the rest of the time.  There are Mutants everywhere in the Marvel universe (Earth/Space/other dimensions/multi-verse).  MUO does not have to be on "Earth".  You could make a character that starts on whatever planet Rocket came from or Asgard.  I would not make this a Earth marvel MMO.  Have a 15 year plan with this MMO.  Tie it into the movies, side stories, and stories we don't know about that happen behind the scenes.

That sounds like an interesting job.  I'm retired (39 years old).  Ironic as it is its because of the Military and a lot of business investments from small companies with great ideas that mainly sold to larger companies.  But as a business investor, I can't believe that there is no AAA super hero MMO other there (I would say Sony and DCUO was AAA at first but when they shut down SOE..it all changed).  Disney has the writers/artist/developers and most importantly ..money to make this happen.  The next great MMO will only take two things...money to make sure it's not limited and a crew that wants to be the best at everything they touch.  The second part is the hard part. Imagine if Naughty Dog got a phone call from Disney and said..hey we want you to make a game.  WoW is so successful because they want every part of there game to be competitive.  Mythic Dungeons, PVP Seasons, Mythic Raiding, Mounts, Pet Battles, game events like dark moon faire, ect.  All of these are super competitive which brings in World First and Streamers.

FFXIV does this as well but at a bit of a lower level..which is one of the reasons they are so successful as well.

Marvel/Disney just needs to do this with Marvel.  I'm not looking for a game that creates 50 new things...just make what works in other games, add your own spin, and some new features....and make the STORY amazing and that you are apart of it.

You should look up that Marvel's Avengers game. I mean it sounds like it checks a lot of options for you except it isn't a MMO but instead a Destiny Style game. You also can't make your own character but everything you described above is what they have been describing
I'll be playing it forsure but it will be just like the Spiderman game to me.  It's not a MMO.  It will have an ending and some multiplayer but not looking for a pvp game.  I want story and the feeling of being a part of the universe.  I actually want to be my own character in the world of the big heroes.  I enjoy making my own story.  Everyone can't be Thor or the world would be unbalanced but it won't break the game to be able to read minds or control people (CC character) or being able to improve others abilities (buffing character).  Falcon/Punisher/Spider-Man/Daredevil/Iron Fist ect...not going to beat thanos but can play their part.  I don't think anyone would feel useless playing characters with those types of powers.  Hulk, Thor, Capt, Iron man, Dr. Strange, ect should be playable characters in specific mission and raids thou, which will add to the fun to the world.

You lost me at Naughty Dog. Honestly if Disney were to go all in on this (again we are talking fantasy here) they buy activision and let Blizzard make it
Well haven't heard that often, but my point was that Naughty Dog pushes the limits of systems, mechanics and tell an amazing story with their games.  But yes, if Blizzard announced a Marvel MMO...id give them whatever they asked (probably do the same-thing if they made WoW2/Starcraft or Diablo MMO...not because I'm a blizzard fan in general...just know my money wouldn't be wasted like buying Bless online)

Really makes you wonder how Marvel Heroes squandered away that amazing IP.

    Utter incompetence.

Hmm, raids? Didn't know that.  Thought it was just like Spiderman.  Will it be PC?  I'm not a MMO controller fan.  But it will be a live world like Destiny..or more of a Ready room waiting for players to join missions?
  • VicusEQVicusEQ Member UncommonPosts: 103
No clue why that is Quoted, couldnt fix it
  • VicusEQVicusEQ Member UncommonPosts: 103
There are so many developers out there thou that have WoW/Guild Wars/EQ (1 and 2)/ experience that are no longer with their original companies that naughty dog or insomniac or some other strong company could bring in to link both worlds together.  Knowing what it takes to make a MMO and being able to push the story and create new things.  Honestly only Blizzard could do it if you think of all the other games out there that have come and gone.  But if you take the big developers that are "retired" right now and pitched them a Marvel MMO...they would come back.  I would heh.
  • VicusEQVicusEQ Member UncommonPosts: 103
Hmm.  I mean they sound fun and Ill beat them..but the game won't keep me around if I can't run around in a world by myself with others nearby.  I mean why get gear from raids if can't use it in other areas.  And I wouldnt want to go back thru the single player mode in uber gear to be in god mode.  But I assume it would be a leaderboard thing.

That game was more like a multiplayer ARPG game that was just fun to f*** around in, no one took it serious as an MMO. Still liked it though.

You could have marvel, disney, and star wars characters all in one.  I could see a raid team of mickey mouse, luke skywalker, the Hulk, and baby groot...

Interesting, I started to type about CO's Marvel origin, and how that ship has sailed, when I had a sort of déjà vu... and yep, we've already had this convo, and actually in your thread:

Spared me the work, I still could only say what I did in those two posts last year :)

Disney/Marvel, just too much failure there really, they can't do 'Starwars' in a way people like, even if they could afford to make a MMO, i doubt it would be any good. I aleady have the popcorn in, watching Disney go down in flames is fun, this is only the beginning of Disney's demise, karma is real  :p

Disney going down in flames? Let me go see how much money they made at the box office again? I mean I get their theme parks aren't doing the greatest at the moment but saying they are going down in flames is kind of crazy. Plus with Disney+ right around the corner they are not in any trouble any day soon
The lay offs are real, even the ones at the themeparks. ;)

I ain't a big Netflix fan but I really didn't like what Disney did with those shows just for the sake of a smoother Disney+ launch... it's a shame, really.

I don't see any problem with 100 deadpools , there are at lease 5 deadpools (deathwish headpool lady deadpool weapon xi ect ...) around and more than unnamed 11638 earths . hell , one of them even starting a deadpool battleroyale

Sure I agree that the themeparks are in trouble. I am going to Disneyworld for a week in November and I was able to book a fastpass for every major ride no problems (except Flight of Passage). However, I think there are reasons for that too. Disneyworld/Disneyland are getting crazy expensive. Even for someone like me who is more middle class. For me to go this year it is almost $3,000 for 2 people.

Also I think Disney hypes things to much. Coming next year is the E ticket Star Wars ride. So people wait. Hold on Mickey Mouse ride in May. Dang got to wait. Disney's 50th is in 2021. Guess we should wait till then. I think Disney is harming  themselves by telling people they should wait for specific dates. Even Galaxies Edge before it opened they were on twitter telling people that lines would be out the park, don't come, you'll need a reservation at Disneyland/Disneyworld. So people didn't come.

I think Bob Iger just needs to go. He did a lot of good but I think he is getting big headed now.
Sure, Bob Iger is not helping Disney, his book certainly isn't helping, the fact that Bob hates the 'old' Starwars and has pretty much destroyed the IP is really not helping, they have pinned a lot on the next film, they can't afford for it to fail, literally, not only that but the MCU is in trouble, since Disney couldn't go 50/50 with Sony over Spiderman, who they absolutely need to try and prop the MCU up, its only got worse, good job they don't have to worry about SEC investigations though eh  ;)

I actually do not want anymore super hero games, every last one of them suck worse than ARPG's

Disney would just hire some mickey mouse "no pun intended" studio to make the game on a peasant's budget.

It has always been the same, any game utilizing a license has been awful, these are just cash grabs looking to cash in on a popular brand.

I remember when i was a youngster,i got a bit excited about sports video games, especially hockey but soon i realized exactly how they are made,i lost a lot of interest. So i find it odd with all the information out there that people have not tired of these sub par hero games.

There is an extra fee you need to pay for licensing.  Using popular IP would drive more players, but at the same time you get higher maintenance fee.  Which if the game don't go well, get more likely to shutdown.

I always wonder if star war galaxy, and warhammer online could continue operation if they don't need to pay such a high hefty licensing fee.

I just check champion online is still operational.  A game like that could continue operation even with low population.  If they need to pay hefty licensing fee, they would probably get shut down long ago.

Turning the Marvel universe into an MMORPG is a terrible idea.

First, Marvel is all about the heroes journey. We've already witnesses how the heroes journey is a bad idea for an MMO - in order to make it compelling, you have to reduce the multiplayer component down to really small sizes in order to provide a coherant heroes journey.

Second, Marvel suffers terribly from escalation. The bad guys and the scope just getting bigger and bigger and bigger.....thats totally unrelatable, totally unsustainable in a game world, and totally unsuited to a multiplayer environment.

Third, if you tried to divorce the players from the super heroes and make us all normal people, then marvel fans will get irritated because you aren't letting them fulfil their wishes.

An MMORPG with 1000 Iron Men, 500 Hulks, 750 Black Widows etc running around is just really, really dumb. Don't do it. You can make it work if you go generic super heroes I guess, but not if ur using the marvel license.

If you want to cash in on the franchise, thats fine, there are plenty of game genres suited to the IP. But massively multiplayer isn't one of them. How about just a normal RPG? Where I can create my super hero, level up, explore and take on bad guys? Like Skyrim, but with super heroes? I'm pretty sure that would be a huge hit, be cheaper to make than an MMO, be more successful than an MMO, and also allow you to do sequels every few years to really milk that money pot.

I don't think a large company is capable of making an MMO a true PC gamer would be happy with.  For many many reasons, too many to list they will veer off course right from the start, and it will just get worse from there.

A petition is pointless.  A petition with $25 million is less so.
