Combat looks goofy as hell in it's current form. It looks like they mo-capped 2 geeks LARP'ing and didn't tweak the movements to appear more aggressive.
"As far as the forum code of conduct, I would think it's a bit outdated and in need of a refre *CLOSED*"
If i wanted to pvp,the ONLY game i would want to play right now would be Unreal Tournament because pretty much every level of pvp is taken into consideration.
As to THIS particular game, these ideas will NOT work.
One player loses stamina,he is dead, there is no retreat and the other side says ..ok you go sit down on the tree stump and rest yourself up,we will just wait here until your ready to go..lol....let us know when your stamina is up again...lol.
So typically pvp is designed around 1 player,a single combatant,if it was real life, that one player would be pretty much dead versus 3+ foes.I am personally not into a chivalry era type of combat, not in the least, that is why i prefer a game like Unreal where there is varied weaponry to give varied styles in pvp.
Also in a game like UT,if there are more than 1,sure it is still chaotic but hardly ever are 3+ players going to walk right in and start melee each other, players keep a safe distance and use tactics. The way pvp is designed in these type of games is to assume dumb ass combatants, nobody uses tactics or strategy, people just run out in the open and start swinging at each other like a couple of drunks at the late night bar.
There is a way to make this era of combat work,it takes a more robust design but i could do it,this is not the way.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

LOL Yeah, I was thinking the same thing watching that combat.
Looks like 2 goofballs trying to whack each other with foam swords but their noodle arms cant swing them well.
The whole "do a direction with mouse then click action button" thing sounds clunky as hell from a gameplay perspective.

Isnt this the way Mount & Blade, Mordhau and AoC combat works?
Afaik this is recognized to be the best way to have meele combat gameplay wise

Yep M&B 2 Bannerlord as well and Gloria Victis. Warband and Mordhau are far from clunky. The only thing I am hearing that I dont like is they are using a stamina system which Mordham and Gloria Victis also uses and which I find far less enjoyable than Warband.
Looks much better than the melee mechanics of any other Survival game I've seen! I'm not in love with the whole premise of Lost Oasis, but I'm not mad at an actual attempt at melee. When most survival games implement a "swing first and fast with the more powerful item to win" style of close combat gameplay.
Why swing the camera for attack direction? It just seems ridiculous to have the scene flailing around like that. Maybe a fixed camera or something during melee, or input attack directions with keyboard? If this is how you have to run around swinging a sword, it's gonna just be a headache.

If you have played Mount & Blade Warband you would understand the camera is fixed behind the character, the mouse movement prior to swinging picks which attack you initiate it doesn't move the camera. I played the Warband mod these guys made cRPG for 8 years, I am pretty sure their combat system is inspired by Warband.
