Apocalypse is known, or rumoured to have the most players. Wastelands is the official roleplaying server. I live in the UK, so I play on East servers for a better ping, on Apocolypse and Carnage, I get around 100-150 latency, whereas Breakdown and Wastelands gives me around 180-250 latency. So choose a server that gives you the best latency.

I play on Apocalypse. All the servers are listed as either "low" or "very low" which seems as if it would be depressing but so far it hasn't upset me one little bit. I find the newbie zones to be pretty hoppin however so, maybe there are lots of people trying the game out.
I will admit I am a little embarrassed to see that my time in AA this week is so high heh. I just can't help it. I work from 7:30am until 5:00pm on a computer dealing with accounting and numbers all day.
A few months ago, I would log into CoH/V around 9ish and play until around 11ish giving myself a few hours of not looking at a computer screen. Now with AA I have to force myself "not" to log in until at least 6pm and it's an equal battle getting myself to log out before midnight ughh. I end up saying ok just need 5 more mins of killing and then I will log..... ok just going to take myself back to __________(insert town) and double check for weapons in my crafting range before I log..... alright I am REALLY logging out as soon as I refine the commodities... ooo I can add enhancements, ok 5 more mins...... an hour later I log out and head to bed.

Actually, that's not true. Apocalypse is the highest population server. Breakdown has the highest load, however. There's a post on the main AA board saying that a dev at E3 stated that the load is not the same as population; that each server isn't built the same and that each therefore handles a different amount of people. Breakdown is nearer to its popuation limit than Apocalypse is, but Apocalypse has more people.
If you doubt what I'm saying, just do your own population checks. Create dummy characters of all three factions than do multi-level /who checks. Add them up and you'll see for yourself. People do this quite a bit and report their results on the main AA forum. Apocalypse always comes out on top.

The first night I installed and started playing Auto Assault, I was like, pfft, I won't like this.
I had to stop my first play session because the dawn was approaching and I hadn't slept all night!
Whoa.

You know what would be neat? if everyone re rolled a toon on the same server, same race, and we had an mmorpg.com guild
I'd be up for it if anyone else would.

Note, however, that with the freebie trial, you only get content up to level 20, but that should give you a decent feel.
