Planetside 3 confirmed

What do you think of this? I didn't play much of Planetside 2 but I have great memories of the original. Daybreak is not one of my favorite devs by any means. They've mismanaged pretty much every project they've worked on imo.

Edit: I didnt realize talks of a third entry began as early as 2016. Shows how out of the loop I've been.

The last thing PS2 players will want is the BR game being a "stepping stone" to PS3, what will there be from a BR game that will inform the making of a good MMOFPS? All that PSA has done is delay the development of PS3, as the OP said Daybreak have a record of mismanagement, I will believe PS3 is coming out when it launches.

Damn you guys are some downers  :( I was all hype remembering my first days in PS2, thinking how PS3 will redefine the genre again,

Then I read the first 2 post... you might be right tho :(

I want Planetside 3, but first they need to redesign the Healer. I tend to play Healers in these large scale FPS games. MAG did it best. I hope they take some ideas from that.

Also need to use that storm thing that Fortnite uses to keep players in a smaller area of the map to promote large scale fights instead of spread all out.

If Planetside 3 was a note for note remake of Planetside 1 with modern graphics and skip everything from the expansion, especially the BFR's, then I would throw all my money at them and stop playing practically anything else.

But we'll see.  I'm a sucker for the Planetside Franchise thanks to nostalgia.

    So that's a wrap for PS2 then.

No thanks.  Daybreak games have zero clue how to manage staff or listen to their community.  They will make PS3 and do what they want instead of what the players want.  They are 2 weeks away from releasing a TLP server for Everquest and havent even announced the rules of the server.  I wont be buying it.

How do you know it's not just how it played? Over all these years, I keep hearing nostalgia dictates preferences and it's in error, but no evidence to prove it. It's usually used in an argument to oppose classic servers or classic gameplay. It keeps coming back to gameplay for me anyway, not nostalgia, and I notice for at least some players it's the same.

I say this because EQ1 was my first MMORPG. Conventional wisdom says we always like and prefer our first MMORPG. But I don't think that expains all of it. I think some players came to NOT like it. They liked the changes to EQ made over the years to appeal to a modernizing industry, and they also liked what WoW did. Me, on the other hand, I did not! I liked EQ the way it was in the first couple years. Furthermore, I loved UO. In fact, I went on to play on private UO servers over many years and forgot about EQ for a while. I eventually went back and play EQ for some years too. But then in 2012 I tried Wurm Online and realized it blew everything away I'd ever played!!! And yet there were playears saying it was terrible, and I just didn't understna dhow they could hate it so much.

I think we all have nostalgia for old things we've done. But we also have unique personalities and tastes that're not dictated by nostalgia. One of the reasons I played EQ at all was because I liked computers at an early age. Back then it was somewhat unordinary to own a desktop AND have internet access. We wouldn't have had a computer if it weren't for me. I eventually played my first PC games. I liked adventuring in open world games (like Privateer or Quarantine or Myst). At the time when I bought EQ, I had been playing Quake II and Tribes, so I was familiar with multiplayer games. I loved to s***talk and compete too. My point? I didn't just randomly play Everquest out of the blue. There were things that led me to it.  We were all led to Everquest. Some of us had a stronger lean than others. Some of us were more lost than others. What it narrows down to is not all of us ended up liking it as much as the other. Years down the road we went our separate ways.

I'm tired of the same argument being recycled. It's not just nostalgia. It's also unique differences in each person.

    BWAHAHAHAHAHA

    43 players at 10pm on a Sunday.

    Plus more lay offs recently.

Daybreak is just an elephant graveyard. A sad pathetic elephant graveyard run by inept people with no talent who tried to release Planetside arena for $40 bucks and make it look like a deal at half price for $20 then cancelled the whole thing. Only to release it a month ago in early access and have it bomb.

It's sad that these once great IPs and games like EverQuest and Planetside are in such a sorry state.

Planetside 2 was a boring joke of a game lacking the depth and charm of Planetside 1, sequels invariably get worse as they focus on having the widest demographic checkboxes but end up pleasing no one and having no longevity.

They haven't released the important information.  Truebox/no truebox.  Starting gear?  Loot rules?  Server release time 2 or 3 months.  There is no FAQ page that they have always done atleast a month ahead of time.

I think you misunderstand my comments.  I'm not saying that I only liked Planetside 1 due to nostalgia.  I truly loved the gameplay from top to bottom.  It was an expertly crafted game in almost every way, at least until the expansions came out that brought in totally unnecessary crap that changed how the game played in every way.

I played a cloaker almost exclusively in PS1.  I was that guy hacking doors, hacking bases and capturing towers ahead of the main thrust.  I would also use my cloaker suit to hunt snipers and plant mines at the exits of vehicle spawn terminals.

I've still never had as much fun in an FPS, and the cloaker in PS2 is just pure trash.  You can see one easily if its doing anything but sitting completely still in a shadowy area.

Hopefully they go back to their roots from basic PS1. No vehicle spam, single occupant heavy tanks, endless grind to unlock weapon and vehicle "sidegrades" (that are often objectively superior), orbital strikes, BFRs,  jetpacks, or virtually unlimited MAX suits.

Go back to the basics. Infantry combat with vehicles supporting was what mad PS1 great. Bring back having to spec for certain roles and not be able to swap class on the fly. And go back to facility links instead of the stupid chaotic grid system in PS2.

Medic works just fine, as a matter of fact in the right hands medic is very OP. And no, they do not need to restrict players in any way, that is the point of MMOFPS, it's massive and it should be massive. Stupid BR is what is killing PS2 right now.

As to the announcement of PS3, meh, DBG will screw it up somehow, I will be very surprised if it even launches.

If you want a new idea, go read an old book.

yep same here, and being a stealther in PS2 without sniping felt pretty useless, or it was just me.

but i simply loved sneaking beyond enemy lines, hacking their shit (and base). i totaly missed being important in ps2 as stealther ;)

I have been playing PS2 since 2011, and I have seen less than ten confirmed aimbot users in that time. They are there, and obviously I am not on 24/7 but aimbot and hacks, in general, is not nearly as rampant as people think.

    The have medics in PS2.

Hell no to the shrinking area in PS3. I’m not sure you know, but PS2 3 faction huge multiple maps was absolutely ground break. This would certainly carry over to a PS3.
