in MMOs or any game for that matter, do you actually prefer FPS or do you just tolorate em and prefer 3rd person view?

Vote and be heard! We can point developers to this poll if we get enough voters!

Well, mainly I am talking about MMOs here but...

If it is a FPS it is an FPS and an FPS interface will always be better than a 3rd person view in that type of game. Likewise a 3rd person view game will always have a 3rd person view that is better than their FP view.

The question is do you prefer FPS over 3rd person games in general?

Me, I loath FPS. Never met one I loved. I did enjoy Gunz a bit, but that is the closest I have come.

Most folks I have met that play FPS tell me in general they prefer 3rd person view games, but they do enjoy a good FPS frag... but if they had their way, they would prefer game X or Y was built as a 3rd person game instead of a FPS.

What this poll is ment to do is provide me with research on a broader scale than the game shops and friends of friends... to see if I am wrong or not.

This is a little confusing. I like 3rd person view when I play mmorpgs. When I play First Person Shooters, I use first person view. Rarely do I use 3rd person in a shooter, unless there is hand-to-hand combat, like in Jedi Knight games.

Some people will say first person is more immersive (as if you are seeing through the eyes of your character). But I like to see alot of what is around my character. I like to spin the camera around to look at different things in the game. 3rd person for me all the way in mmorpgs.

yeah , i didnt vote , becose , it depends on the game

if its point and shot , solo based , FPS

if its not point and shot , team based , obviusly , 3rd person so i can see where my team mates are

i do love FPS kind of games

but for games like most mmorpg , 3rd person is the best ..

the question should be more like

point and shot , yes or no ?

becose if its not point and shot , a bigger view of the action will always be better

i was also confused ....... third person view in a FPS (FIRST PERSON shooter......) neon i read your comment on huxley, and was deaply disapointed ...... if FPS is such crap then why do millions of people play it each year? MMOFPSs are pointed at a different kind of customer ..... the FPS customer base. Im tryin to say this in the nicest way i can, but that comment was robust.

Ok i have a few questions, first off who or what is Huxley?

And second off, are you sure you really read a post of mine? I didnt say FPS are crap, dont think I ever said that (maybe i did but i dont recall it... if you could link me to it I would love to read it) Me personally though I loath em. I get motion sickness from em and I am not a finger twitcher.

I stand by my comment though that most FPS players that *I know of* (this is from my personal life exp) Prefer 3rd person games to FPS but will buy FPS if it's interesting enough. Like for example my nephue who loves Halo for the xbox, said he would have prefered it if it was a 3rd person game... however that didnt stop him from loving Halo as a FPS game. Thus he is a customer who will buy FPS but prefers 3rd person.

This conversation should really be for another thread as the poll is reasearch not an argument... I'll explain that in a min.

First off why I said what i did. As I have mentioned, in my personal experience the FPS players I know (from EB World, Game Stop, Friends and Friends of friends) Say they really prefer 3rd person games. If this is true globally then making a FPS is actually giving the company a smaller share of the market than they could get with a 3rd person version of the same game.

My personal opinion of why companys seem to be making the push is it is easier to Code if you dont have a 3rd person view. (I am not saying it's easy but I have done some work for a few gaming companys in my days) Keep in mind this is My Opinion, not fact.

What this poll is ment to do is provide me with research on a broader scale than the game shops and friends of friends... to see if I am wrong or not.

I am not saying I am right, just trying to get some research to see if I might have something, or if I am compleatly off base. I am sure fanboys of each exist and will flame me for my views... but I want a bigger picture and I hope to get enough votes here to see where the reality is.

I dont claim to know it all, but everytime a cool concept game goes FPS it's one more game I wont play... and it annoys me.... so on the chance the majority Does prefer 3rd person games, maybe companys will realize they are making their own market smaller by cutting off the 3rd person players like me, who arent finger twitchers... again... this may prove just the reverce... I dont know... but I wanna find out.

I personally find it depends on the game if its a hack and slash then 3rd person, where as if its a shooter then 1st person, but I really don't like that over the shoulder view some games try to toss at us
