The Outer Worlds is finally here. This is a game I’ve been looking forward to ever since it was first announced. To me, it looked like a game in the vein of classic Fallout wish a splash of Mass Effect. Of course, I’ve been playing on PC and here are my (very early) impressions of the PC port.

My impressions of the game so far, for those who are interested.

I like it. I'm enjoying it.

These are my very early impressions though, so... yeah.

Interesting read. I really wish someone picked up Totalbiscuit's Port Report video format and make more videos about this technical stuff. RIP TB.

As a general rule for myself I must own a physical version on console for RPGs, but I also buy the PC version if it's as flexible as Fallout and The Elder Scrolls.

Aside from the technical stuff mentioned in this report I hear a lot of good things about the game so i'm very interested in it. However, nobody (that i'm aware of) has mentioned anything about official mod support, in game console command, etc. I'm starting to worry that this game is more a feature-locked spiritual successor to Mass Effect than it is a spiritual successor to Fallout.

And honestly, the game itself is brilliant. I’m loving it. It feels so wonderful to play a proper RPG again from the people who have pioneered the genre. I’m just disappointed with the state of the PC version and wanted to share my findings with folks to help them understand what they’d be getting with the PC version. Hope it was helpful.

The positive thing is that these technical quirks you experienced may be easier to correct than, let's say, fixing an actually broken game. Hopefully they get addressed sooner rather than later.

I personally can't wait to play it.

I'm really liking this game on PC.  Love the dialogue choices with multiple options.  Glad I picked it up and looking forward to replaying it in a different style. So far so good.

I'm downloading it right now. I cannot wait to dive right into this. It's been too long since I've played an Obsidian game.

Apart from the fact that isn’t a review (but of course you knew this because you read it where the title says “impressions”), you nailed it.

Not sure why the graphics are an issue, it's not bad for a double A game.

One of the reasons why I hope this game does good. I can't imagine what a sequel would be like with a AAA budget.

    Probably rushed and unfinished...

I'd like to know how the final third ends up. Pillars started really strong too. I thought I was going to love it, and I do think it's a decent game, but the final third is a slog that is missing polish. It feels like they put in the minimum effort because they know most people don't play that far.
by final 3rd you mean after 1/3 of the game and in its last legs on story?

Yeah, that last third. The game is divided up into 3 parts. Part 3 just feels rushed and low effort, especially when you compare it to Part 1 or 2.

I'm curious about that as well. I remember that being an issue in Deus Ex Mankind Divided as well. The game was divided into 3 parts, the first 2 were excellent and the third one was shorter and weaker.

Yup, Obsidian also has a really strong history with post launch support so I would expect a lot of this stuff to get added / fixed.

Are you playing on harder than normal mode? I started supernova so no clue if its normal but in this mode I can only save from within my ship and auto save appears to be when you leave a town.

DUH welcome to 2019 where an Ultrawide Screen is normal. To those of us who have one, speak for yourself. I agree with the author that a lack of support for something so basic is ridiculous and would impact my fun factor as well.

Thanks for that. I was debating on PC or Console and now I'm leaning toward console, but I really dislike playing shooters on a console since I sux using controllers. Either way I'm waiting to pick this up. I will probably go PC, but won't get it until it releases on Steam and maybe by then they will have made fixes to the PC version.

I'm not an IT Specialist, Game Developer, or Clairvoyant in real life, but like others on here, I play one on the internet.

Some call me the space cowboy....

    The game is fantastic..

Going to play through in about 35 hours..

I just finished the first area of the game and so far - zero bugs

Lots of stats and the way they work isn't apparent initially.. Makes sense to look closely at what they are doing...

The humor is clever and the writing in exceptional.

I already see a replay in my future..

    I went dialog/melee focused..

No macro/micro transactions, special edition, early access, PTW bullshit.

You can repec if you want. Congratulations to Obsidian for doing what so many others have failed at recently. Yes, a single-player RPG can sell and will be well-received if you care enough to make it well. Not everything needs to be a Battle Royale.

You know, it seems like nearly every game that comes out has some sort of wonkiness with ultra-wide. Which is why I refuse to ever go that route. Even in the instances where it "works" there is always issues caused by it.

I'll keep this in mind when it goes on sale on Steam (with all the DLC released).

Ev1 is like "i'm enjoying the game so far"well WHY,what does it offer and does it offer anything i can't already get in games i already own?
What i watched on twitch streams was actually pretty bad.
The graphics look bad,the game almost looks like a cheaper version of Tabula Rasa. Those ugly cheap looking metal structures also remind me a lot of those SOE games Planetside.
The textures are very low end, this game should run on a toaster, basically looks like it was made on the Unreal 1 engine.

I was watching hard mode and seemed EASY mode, personally hate MODES in games, deliver ONE mode because modes ruin the whole immersion of a game.Like someone asks....was that Boss or combat difficult...answer,well on this setting it was easy and on that setting it was tougher and on that setting tougher yet, yeah it get's dumb. Hand guns, sniper rifles...zzzzzzzzzzzzzz,boring.
