Level 26 and bored

DizzyJokerDizzyJoker Member Posts: 10

I started in Freeport, went to The Commonlands, then Wailing Caves, then Nektulos, then Thundering Stepps / Antonica, visited Stormhold.  I'm 26 now and pretty bored.  I'm trying to get to level 30 so I can go to the Enchanted Lands and see something new but I don't think I'll make it.  I went to Ruins of Varsoon and hoped it would be kinda cool.  Oh, it's a cavern in the ground, like Wailing Caves and Fallen Gate and Splitpaw dungeons.  I haven't seen anything that's impressed me in a long time.  I thought the idea was to make MMOs more accessable to casual gamers.  But I keep reading about cool content for those at level 40+.  The rest of us have to slug it out for 40 levels in half-baked dungeons and worn out zones?  EQ, for all its low level unfriendliness, had way more to offer at low levels than this game.  At least in EQ you could find some popular spots and meet new people.  In WoW had many different types of zones and a lot to explore.  I never felt like my options were limited even at a low level.  It wasn't as compelling as EQ but at least it was interesting.  Sorry, just kind of frustrated, not trying to offend.

why not try the Splitpaw Lair in TS or Bloodlines in Nek. Check out the Crypt of betrayal or the Condemned catacombs. At 26 with a group you could take a whack at nek castle. Lots to do if you just keep looking..people try to move through the game so fast, in ahurry to lvl 70 that they end up missing ALOT of very very good content.

If you reread his post, he pretty much has done all there is to do, and he, like myself, get tired of the same old cavernous dungeons...  Face it, they all look the same...  Bloodlines is a joke too, that AP was a considerable rip-off...  Splitpaw is a lot better with some extremely cool content and stories, but the environment looks no different than WC or FG...  Just rocks and a cave, that's all...

Yeah, I did try Splitpaw.  It wasn't bad but it's another cave.  I don't really want to pay for bloodlines (isn't that an expansion?).  I know it's not much $$ but I should have enough to do for my $50 + $15 per month.  I haven't tried those catacombs or the crypt.  I'll probably give those a shot.  Honestly the dungeon crawls I've been on with groups aren't much fun.  You get in a group and blow through the dungeon or die on a bad pull.  It's a blitz until you die. There's no middle ground, no close shaves, no tension, no suspense.  Anyway, I'm not even saying it's a bad game, it's just not for me I guess.  I really want to like it and I'm in no hurry to get to level 70.  I'd gladly level slower as long as it's fun.

In EQ at level 25 I could try Permafrost, Everfrost, Sol A, Runnyeye, Upper Guk, OOT, Unrest, Mistmore, Rathe Mountains, Freerrott, Najena, etc. and that's all original content.  Plus, all of those zones had items worth trying for.  All I know is I'm waiting to level up so I can check out Enchanted Lands and someday Ro.  But my motivation is sapped because the first 25 levels have been low key.

don't let the fanbois fool you.....if you're bored at 26 you will defintely be bored at 36 and so on.
  • NihilanthNihilanth Member Posts: 1,357

That's been a problem with the game since release. There's plenty of places to go for people at lower levels, but for every level range there's a deffinite best place to level. This leads to overcrowding of those areas, and it makes them get very old very fast.

With the recent expansions they have somewhat eliminated this for the higher levels, but that's just it: for the higher levels. One of my biggest complaints with the game right now is that SOE is only adding new stuff to the end of the game. Hopefully this next expansion will fix that (it will not raise the level cap and supposedly have new areas for all levels).

While I think that if you stay long enough you will deffinitely enjoy the game more at higher levels, believe me, you wouldn't be the first person who I've seen quit over this, and it's a perfectly valid reason.

Schutzbar - Human Warrior - Windrunner Alliance - World of Warcraft
Nihilanth - Kerra Paladin - Blackburrow - EverQuest II
    XBL Gamertag - Eagle15GT

I know how you feel bud. The very key to your problem is that you should find a lively and vibrant guild. Social interaction is what makes these games what they are and when you're in a great guild the ideas and chatter are what keep you going! Try finding a really decent guild and your boredom will be cured!

    Yeah, caves suck.

Although I really enjoyed Varsoon but that might have been because of the awesome guild I was in. Let's face it, if you're with a bunch of fun people, even a dull cave can be exciting.

High 20s are the worst level range in the game.

I hated Varsoon too, but unfortunately there are not many other camps for you.  Try to grit it out, pretty soon you'll be hunting in either Enchanted Lands or Zek, and they're a lot better.

Im having similar problems at level 21 - Im bored of the commonlands. I quit the game last time because I was a warrior and the cooldown was ridiculous and there were no groups. Still having grouping problems tho and even at 21 I still have to go back to the commonlands for heroics for groups. I think Im jus waiting for that one amazing group like 25+ that take me on as the n00b then I can PL :)

I agree with you Anarch, this game is more of a social game, it always has been. Either find a guild or regular grouping friends and you shouldn't be bored.

What's the definite best place to level at 26 then?  Is it well known?  Because then there might be a lot of people there and I don't mind that at all.  I've hit all the spots I can think of (my first post) and they seem pretty dried up already and not many people are around.

MMOs are definitely social games.  And I like that or I'd just play ES4 or something.  I miss all the inane banter in old MMOs.  I probably should find a guild.    I've already been in a few and they've all been terribly lame.  If I could find a good one I'm sure I'd be on more.  (I play on Inny).   But, also, I should be able to just log in for a few hours, and find a fun spot to level with or without a guild.   And I think that's the crux of my whole problem / complaint: lack of fun things to do.  A guild, to me, is just a nice bonus.  It shouldn't be a requirement.

Update: I tried the Catacombs off Antonica.  Of course the first two mobs were linked and they were level 27, heroic.  So, that dungeon is out for a while.  I'd have to be at least level 28, if not 30, to think about taking on two 27 heroic mobs.  Needless to say, I was bummed.  I'll try Nektrops castle next.  I think that's my last attempt.

I am playing Eve currently and getting EQ2 this friday to compliment my fantasy side lol. However, you really should not give up on a game entirely in your 20's. If you seem to be getting burnt out on it take a break for a month and then give it one final chance to hold your interest later. I remember from EQ1 the game didn't start to pick up until mid 30's, and you really needed to be 50+ to start really enjoying your time.

Always keep in mind that as you level up you start gaining access to some much better areas, and try to group alot, solo gets boring fast lol.

Yeah, that's good advice.  I got on EQ1 a week after it was released.  I played for about 3 or 4 months and stopped.  I came back about 6 months later and I was hooked for good.  It was obvious, even at low levels, that EQ1 had potential.  For example: even at low levels zones were interesting, dungeons were surprising and rewarding and that did not fail to hold true for higher levels either.

However, this is my third time back to EQ2.  I bought it immeditely after it came out and played for a while and stopped.  Came back six months later, and now 12 months later.  Each time I start off excited and about a week or two into it I get bored.  I feel like the game should show me something by the time I'm level 25 in terms of "fun".

Anyway, I guess my point in this post was to see what ideas people had or if I was missing something.  I appreciate the zone / guild ideas.  I'll try them.  I have two weeks until this subscription month ends.

When I played it I too found that there as this dead zone that started in the high teens.  The newbie Island didn't take very long to blow through, and it wasn't that likely that you would hit the exact same quests and neighborhoods at the low levels.  So it was fine at really low levels.   But then every characeter i played would get dumped in the common lands and start in on the exact same quest chains (yeah, i was always evil...lot easier for a familly of crafters to twink each other that way).  I ended up just quiting the adverturing game alltogether (less killing things that jumped me while i was out gathering, of course) and took up full time crafting.  That was actually a lot of fun and kept me hooked on it's own for a couple of months (can't say that about crafting in any other game, certainly).

In any case, the lowbie game needs more variety.  My understanding is that once you hit around level 40 the variety of adventuring zones that are available increases dramatically.  But to me it seems like if they want new players to make it there consistently they need to offer more variety at lower levels.

I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.

I got EQ2 when it first came out. Made a Scout to level 19. Make a Cleric to lvl 16 and quit before WoW even came out. Bought WoW and played a lot longer than EQ2.

I tried a few times to come back to EQ2 when everyone was saying it has changed and is much better. Even recently as all the mighty fanbios of EQ2 claim it was a TOTALLY different game.

Well, it is still the same. The combat SUCKS. The ZONES SUCKS, The game SUCKS. EQ2 is just a lame drawn out game that puts you to sleep.

I don't care for WoW that much either, but it kept my interest long enough to subscribe to it a LOT more often than EQ2.

Hopefully HJ or WH will put an end to these mainstream MMO's that tend to push us all in one direction, the direction of herded cows.

Did not feel like reading so here goes nothing.

Fun solo things to do that by the time you finish them you will be onto the new zones:

    Necromancer’s zone in Nek

    Quest line in Nek beach

Valley of Rogue Magi in CL

Shattered stillness in Ant (need to check the name of that one)

Start the EL and ZEK quest a few levels early, most entry mobs are easy

All the solo instances in TS

On the not so solo side:

    Group heroics

Prisoners Isle (rough quest but fun – 999 year old port)

Watch level chat for group or raid call outs (really common on my server Everfrost)

Guild guild guild guild, I am a lv 65 SL but play my alts way more and love to have fun at low levels

But if you do not like it then you just do not like it no biggie.

    Yup they need to redo:

    Antonica,TS and Nek

These 3 zones are why people get bored with level 20 - 30.

Nek is just a pain in the butt zone.. I like the general atmosphere but i hate the "maze-like" quality with all the impassable hills and stuff.

I allways found ROV (which is 26+) to be loads of fun.  and in good rov groups you can blast through those lvls like crazy.

I can and im a very casual player

and yes the mid twenties suck, but once you hit 33-35 is when the game gets fun, so get through the shitty lvls and start the fun stuff

The new EQ2, better than ever befor !

There are a couple nice HQ’s you can do at level 26, Finishing the DWB HQ (if you haven’t already), the polished granite tomahawk, the shiny brass halberd, a strange black rock, stiletto’s orders and the fishbone earring could take you to your 30’s all by themselves.

There is also Nec castle (needed for the earring) the condemned catacombs and the you are still not to high for the crypt of betrayal.  The depths of Stormhold are still a viable place to go at 26, in fact it will be les crowded then many other places, and from the sounds of it you haven’t been very far into RoV because it’s only “caves” near the entrance.

That’s all group oriented of course, other then some parts of the HQ's you will not be able to do all that solo.  If you want to solo at 26, the upper floors of Stormhold or the crypt of betrayal are suitable choices.

I don't think it's about soloing or grouping anymore. Granted the whole broker, spell, and armor setup got on my nerves, EQ2 just becomes boring fast. Once you've played through the city zones, Anotinca, and TS it's all the same no matter what. I got my wizard to the mid to low 20s I believe in TS and I just couldn't continue.

I agree with EQ1 you had a lot more options just with the original landmasses alone. Kunark just added more freedom to all levels. Velious was for mid to high levels yes but Luclin again was for high levels. With Everquest 2 though the first two expansions have been aimed at high levels, even the mini-expansions are geared more toward the mid levels to high levels.

I'm not sure how one should take that. Either way I'm never playing the game again anyway.
