Moved abroad and didn't take my gaming pc. I loved everything about AA apart from the pay2win/rng. That's gone now and I can't play but glad it's going well.
definitely don't upgrade the armor that early. Wait to end level and save all of those upgrade things.
I believe you get them back if you use the special evenstones that you get from the armor merchant.
could be, I played last year and didn't use any of that stuff until I got a certain set of armor which I can't even remember what it was. what ever armor that is or is that the free set ? ...
leveling this one :
Then for some reason switched to the gold set.. I know I didn't start the level process until I hit max level, maybe that was the mistake I made ?
I don't know how the whole system works in terms of getting super high level gear at higher levels, but I watched part of a video clip where a guy was trying to get the right stat on his armor and kept breaking his gear down with the evenstone you get from the armor merchant and it gave everything back every time.
I was getting nervous when you said you didn't research anything and was putting points in builds randomly. I am one of those freaks who spend days sometimes a whole week researching a game before playing it. I cannot play without reading up and watching some videos on a game. Perhaps I destroy some of the wonder and mystery by doing that but things like having to respec almost never is a thing for me because I always choose carefully.

Are you from the Ragnarok Online generation? I get like that too sometimes remembering back in the day if you screwed up your build, the only option was to reroll.

i do the same , i research so much that sometime the game is released and i still waste half the time playing around builds and classes instead of playing ><

I don't really do that. I do cursory "research" and then just jump right in. It's not fun otherwise. I don't like my games to feel like jobs.

I do what Sovrath does. I research a game a ton to screen it before playing. But once I jump, I usually just jump in and try to figure things out as I go. I figured if I screw things up in the beginning, it truly doesn't matter, because If i do not stick with a game it is meaningless and if I stick with a game, it means I got addicted to it, and then I wouldn't mind re-rolling.
A lot of games I just like to search and explore and figure things out myself.

It is the way I approach everything in life with careful study and research. I enjoy not making mistakes and knowing exactly what to do and how to play. It gives me a sense of having done a good job preparing myself for the game but I screw up anyway so it is interesting that experience. I guess it is because doing a thing teaches you far more than reading about it.

I started with L1, DAOC, and then L2.
Rerolls were painful so I did a lot of research to avoid having to do so on the same class.
As time went on games made it easier to respec and largely removed players abilty to seriously screw up their character.
In my most recent game I looked up one build to provide some loose guidelines and just went at it.
After reaching 50 I checked again, found I didnt quite match up but decided I was pleased with the mix I had.
Still can change it if the need to ever arises, but I can't see me wanting to reroll to do so.
