    while the in game stuff looks nice like the environs n models im not a lover of VR and this game seems to me like its just being used to push VR hardware like the steam Index since VR adoption rates are under 1% of all steam users (90 million users)

    This is quite the dice roll for Valve, will be interesting to see how it goes.
    While I dont mind a punt now and then, I wouldnt touch this with a barge pole.

    You would think that after all this time they could add some arms to the hands when it comes to VR. Watching a pair of hands hauntingly bounce around in from of your face is kind of immersion breaking.

    It wont go well at all and this is me not being pessimistic at all, because they have attached this HL game to VR (quite possibly the entire series hinges on this)

    This wrong franchise to mess with in this case (id would be fine with a portal VR game) because the majority of people that want a new half life game want to be able to play it without buying a £920 VR kit and a £1k computer to run VR

    Even if u think of this with a business like mind and assume 1/5th of steam users are HL fans lets say 89million users on steam without VR lets say thats about (conservative its probs more) 17.8 million HL fans VS about 1 million VR users 200k HL fans what makes more money? people dont wanna buy 2k worth of equipment to play the game woulda been easier making a HL3 game then adding in a VR campaign

    this ot: but I want meet the fool that clicks that link lol 
    Maybe the team could speed up the reporting / actioning by adding a "Spam" button. And if a "new account" with 0 or a very low post count gets enough hits this triggers a block pending review. New accounts only so use of the spam button would have no impact on established accounts. The existing methods for reporting a post would still be available of course.

    Man this is so lame as so many of us have waited years for a new HL game and they give us this crap.

    I am not buying a VR game...period and seeing a couple hands on the screen ruins any reason to include immersion and just ruins the visuals on screen.

    This is just so dumb that i cannot fathom WHY they would alienate such a large player base from buying into this game.

    To me it looks obvious,they never intended a great effort to try and recreate another great HL game so they aimed for a simple gimmick game,some flashy lights,up close attacks,yeah seen it all before,we don't need VR to pull this off.

    Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

    I didnt think of this side of it, but you could well be onto something here, the game may be just a very short flashy but shallow tie-in/cameo to HL2.

    The only thing this looks like it could be the beginning of Source engine 2 which is the only positive i can see being pulled from this dumpster fire of a game!

    Obviously not many here have a VR headset....it shows. The game will be a massive success and it will sell headsets. Look great, can't wait!

    Indeed I am a big fan of VR but this whole floating hands or invisible arms shite has to go. Very disappointing that a bigger name like Half life is half assing this.

    Dont take this out of context im not a fan of VR (but im not against it its just absurd to buy the hardware) but attaching a high stakes franchise (in which your core fanbase has waited a long time for a HL game) to a VR only title which has a small adoption rate on steam (due to price) just in hopes of selling more hardware is a big gamble like i said in a previous post further down if you actually read them all it would be better for Valve to make a HL3 game and add a VR only campaign as DLC you would get the sales u want (from software) and if people wanted the DLC and want to buy the hardware then its all gravy too! and it would show valve that NO ONE WOULD WANT IT (as the amount opf people playting the HL£ game to the VR campaign is VASTLY different) home VR is to costly to set up its a bad endeavour for a primarily software firm to get into and they should leave it to the likes of occulus remember the steam link?

    wake up bro. first off, VR has been around for years now.  If you dont have a headset yet, thats on you. It's really not that expensive.  Second, game creation is not valve's bread and butter. Steam is the cash cow, so selling more hardware is not the goal here.  Its literally just a case of Valve being involved with the Vive headsets, and them creating a mean as game to go with it.  This takes time, its only now ready.  They do not care if you dont play it on your non vr setup.  This is a VR game for the people that did buy VR.  It's not financially driven.  For you to claim "noone wanted it" I mean what are you on, literally the entire VR community wants this game.  Not everything evolves around 2d monitor gaming anymore man, realize this, take a step backwards, take in that information, and then stop writing shit on forums rubbishing a AAA+ level title for a platform that you apparently down own or care for.  Some of us do and do.

    People saying it won't do well because it is VR only and only 1% of people on steam have VR, well 4 mill steam users have VR on their PC, and if all 4 mill buy the game then thats all it needs to be successful, as 90% of new games never hit them numbers, Plus when the 1st Half Life came out, people moaned it was PC only, and then people bought it when it came out in the millions, And then Half Life 2 came out, and people moaned again, This time it is VR only and a smart move, as you can use all PC VR headsets, so it should help convince people that maybe VR isn't a gimmick after all, Also incase people think ah it is going to cost thousands for a VR system, Well the Rift CV1 you can buy now for the price of $150, and to play VR all you need is a Ryzen 3 CPU and 16GB of ram and a 1050 Ti, and all that total with the Rift CV1, comes under 500 and people spend more on their phones and buying graphic cards.

    The VR tech badly needs a killer application.

    A full Half-Life game, if made propperly and actually putting the tech to creative and propper use might just be taht killer application.

    Time will tell. But for the first time I am actually giving a VR headset some serious thought...

I dont know if the 1% VR users is accurate but even it if is, thats besides the point.  Valve is not a company that relies on its game sales. Nor is it a company that relies on its VR headset sales. STEAM is the cash cow. Always has been since what, cs 1.x days?  Point is Valve games is not your traditional "let's make a game for the masses and hopefully be successful or this studio goes under" type setup.  They have the luxury to put some serious resources into something like this game and thats awesome.  Take it for what it is.  What gets my sphincter clenching is as soon as this thing gets revealed, you get these nerd on forums moaning about this that and everything in between that doesnt concern them and that has got to stop.

    Take an iconic series. Wait a decade and then some without releasing anything. Then announce a game in that series and make it available to only 1-4% of your audience. Be surprised that people complain.

    It isn’t that difficult to understand really. And its great for VR users, definitely. Most people were waiting for a different announcement though when it comes to Half Life.

    I like VR and think it's here to stay this time around and we need a good title like this for VR that said VR does have some issues and it's just fine to talk about in a forum as that's what the forums are here for.
