Sure would have been great if someone in journalism or even an SEC accredited investor would have gone to visit the studio and had asked when they thought the release might be.

Nobody around here with credentials like that I guess.

But did they stay in a Holiday Inn Express? Probably.

That is simply an attempt to "ret-con" what was said.  They planned RELEASE of a core game, consisting of the core modules by Dec 1016.  As an example to back that up here is a Q&A with Gordon from 2015 where he talks about BETA being mid 2016.

A: Sometime mid-next year is the best estimate we have now.

Or better yet, here is Coleman and Walton:
Q: When do you think there will be a FINAL RELEASE
A:"well as an MMO there is never truly a FINAL release... but all the pieces that we want to pull together from the Kickstarter we are looking at the end of next year" (Thats Dec 2016)
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3a3qvL1NTlg&feature=youtu.be&t=1h14s

So it's not folks thinking it's something else.  It is EXPLICITLY what BOTH Coleman and Walton stated.

To date, nothing has had a final release. Nothing has entered open beta nor the beta phases 1,2,3,4,5,6 or 7.  Nothing has hit Alpha 3, Alpha 2 or Alpha 1.

I just looked and the splash screen shows we are still sitting in "Pre-Alpha Live 5.100"

Don't try to ret-con what they "meant" when there is video showing clear as day what was said and what the question they were answering stated...

They are 3 years late.  They need to OWN IT, and move forward.  Trying to pretend they didn't mean what they literally said is dishonest at worst and belittling at best.
Fair enough.   I don't think I ever expected anything that fast.  No one releases a game that quickly, much less with a team this small, so I either missed it or just read it as them talking about specific subsets of the game.

I can see how it'd be taken that way, and they may have even meant it that way at the time, though I kind of doubt it.   Games just aren't developed that quickly and both Todd and Gordon have been around long enough to know that.

You know this, Slap knows this, I know this so of course Todd and Gordon knew it.

So then they were flat out lying....

    Thanks for helping to confirm.

So why would we believe anything they promise at this point?

(Not a trick question you know)

See you are doing it again... they literally said it.  I showed the exact question and answer... live on video...  and your response is “I can see how it’d be taken that way and they may even have meant it that way at the time, though I highly doubt it”

So I will repeat what I said: Trying to pretend they didn’t mean what they literally said is dishonest at worst or belittling at best.   There is no alternate interpretation.  It is on video.  The question clearly asked is “When do you think there will be a final release”.  And the answer is “the end of next year” (meaning 2016).   This also aligns with prior statements such as entering beta in early/mid 2016 and of course the Kickstarter deliver date of 2016...  but nothing beats the clear question and answer of the video.

There is no alternate interpretation.  The question was clear and so was the answer.

Too many people care way too much about the release date of future games.  After a game launches, they stop caring about the release date.

If it were somehow knowable today that Crowfall wouldn't launch until 2025, but would be a great game when it finally did launch, I'd say, great, there's a great game coming in 2025.  (Actually, I'd first question how you claimed to know that and probably would mostly argue that you don't.)  And if I knew that Crowfall were going to be a terrible game, then I wouldn't care if it launched tomorrow, a decade from tomorrow, or never.

Sure that’s true, but it’s not as simple as that when a company takes your money based on a planned 2016 release date and the calendar is about to turn to 2020 and it’s still in “pre-Alpha”. People have legitimate reasons to be frustrated by the delays.  That doesn’t mean the company should just toss something out either... as I said earlier... what they had in 2016 was in no way release-ready. What they have now is just starting to resemble a releasable product... but that does not negate the legitimate frustrations from people who paid up expecting something 3 years ago.

Thing is, until it actually launches there's not really any way to determine if a game is going to be great, especially for those who only play titles which have been fully delivered hence the focus remains on the date.

    LIE:

A lie is an assertion that is believed to be false, typically used with the purpose of deceiving someone.

Now we can all argue whether the timeframe has been to slow, or just right.  But i don't see any lies.  I see people who made incorrect statements.

I think it's a stretch to say otherwise.

Camelot Unchained started before Crowfall and will likely launch after it, yet they still give full refunds. To me this is a better (honest?) way to go about it.

Delays happen, but devs should not give out dates if they aren't sure they will happen. In Crowfall's case they are months/years behind depending on which of multiple time frames they gave that were way off.

Unless the next update is amazing, I likely won't bother caring anymore. I don't mind not getting my money back, as I backed the idea, but I won't trust the names behind it ever again. Considering what happened with Shadowbane, UO, and SWG I guess it shouldn't be surprising.

I don't understand the hyper-focus of some people on a release date.  If you're of the opinion that the devs are lying about a timeline then why are you wasting time in forums about their game?  You seriously have nothing better to do?

    1. I happen to want to play the game
    2. I bought a decent-sized package in Kickstarter based on a Dec 2016 date.  It's about to turn 2020.  If I want to post and vent my frustrations I will do so.

Have you actually reached out about a refund at any point?  Or are you just looking for a reason to troll.

I refer you back to part 1. Perhaps you missed it.   And if you think complaining that a game is 3 years late is "trolling" then the problem is on your end.

I have played 1000s of hours and had great times throughout the development of the game.  In that time so much solid stuff added except the god damned grind that some players wanted so that a no life person could edge ahead.   Yet it is still an easy grind in most cases and we have had our input listened to closely.   I have never had to even think about a release date or when it would be until recently, there has been enough in game to have a month or so of excellent times with each development patch testing its changes and additions..   But I must be special, logging in is logging in and it has been a blast playtesting from the Hunger Dome through the various Big Worlds and Trials of the Gods, every single one adding more to do in game.  I am now on that one big break I get before the final push to release, six to eight months of cures the burnout.   I look forward to regrouping the guild for the GvG module and the return of some of the major players.  5.110 in February (or March) is to be the final addition of mechanics, from there it is just polish and power balancing.   Still gonna be a good time with or without all the whingers and wankers.

You might want to look up the meaning of vaporware. This game has been playable for a long time.

And just so you know, less than 20% of the funds came from crowdfunding.

    https://crowfall.com/en-US/funding

I don't care if you want to criticize the game, but at least educate yourself so you can do it intelligently.

Make no mistake, I did not mean to imply that crowdfunders were the only investors being bilked.

And, yes, it is vaporware. A working pre-alpha with a tiny fraction of the originally envisioned features does not constitute availability.

But go ahead and keep talking down to people if it makes you feel better about falling for this amazing long con.
