"In other news, the MMORPG is receiving the Rime and Regal cosmetic addons. These feature snowfall sabatons, peak hound pup, eldercrown caribou, sentinel greatcoat, the crimson carriage, and the homehearth cabin. They’ll be available from December 11, 11a PT – January 8, 11a PT."
I'm not entirely sure as to why I started laughing uncontrollably after reading this right after the other stuff.
Its like "we're losing a lot of clients due to false advertisement but lets keep advertising stuff clients didn't want."
That's what they get for holding a event that required you to get level 50 (max) in the adventure path (battle pass) at the start of the release and then do nothing with it anymore making it pointless to play because you get no rewards anymore.
Good. Means that they will have no choice but to work on the MMO. I am glad it didn't pull a Fortnite and became a huge hit
But a lot of time and money was wasted on this crap. The damage is already done.
They thought they had an easy cash in on a fad and blew up in their face so now they have to resort to blatant cash grabs like these Christmas cosmetics(available for limited time, get yours today!) to try and make up for it but that will likely blow up in their face as well.
This is going down in flames fast and all that will be left is ...ashes.
Yeah as an investor in the original MMO vision, the Venn diagram for battle royal wasn't there for me. I tried to think of it as testing the engine, but when they started trying to use it to score loot to carry over into the regular game I felt that was galling.
I doubt this forces any hand at all.I have a feeling this BR move was because they saw no other way to create cash flow.
So imo NO this game is not going to do much of anything.IDK the owner has some money invested,he might just cut his losses,i don't see any other avenue he can aim for.
This dude should have NEVER got into this in the first place unless 100% serious about a mmorpg.Trying to pull an Epic games/Fortnite move and change to a BR says this guy was NOT serious but only played us in hopes of baiting us like SC baits it's players.
I was never sold on the original idea anyhow,i prefer a simplistic design with deep systems. An automated town/zone system is not what i am looking for.I am looking for DEEP grouping"NOT RAIDS"but deep grouping for 4/5/6 players.A deep class system "NOT points allotted" deep in melee/ranged and magical use with buffs/debuffs/healing/elemental etc etc.Types of weapons matter, all that kind of stuff, racials are ok as well.
I do NOT want or care about ANY kind of pvp in rpg nor do i care about sliders or giant yellow ?? over npc heads,i want a REAL mmorpg not some fake connect the dots crap.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
My heavy criticism for this game ever since the announcement of the BR hasn't honestly been about the BR itself (never cared enough to download it), but more towards the seer arrogance they showed by announcing it before even having other elements of the game in testing.
They kept talking about how the BR was for the action combat and kept making it seem like they could easily nail "good" tab-targeting any time they wanted. If this was the case, they could've put other things in for testing with the tab-targeting as a place-holder (like classes, environmental features, w/e) BEFORE the BR announcement and then have the BR run ALONGSIDE all of that to add credibility that there is an actual game in development.
Testing class balancing and progression isn't exactly a simple thing and if they thought it was, then obviously they were never serious about this project to begin with. Combine that with supposedly so many other systems that have honestly nothing to do with combat, it just makes 0 sense that other things weren't in testing for backers ALONGSIDE the BR.
Now I obviously could be wrong and backers could be NDA testing all of the game or whatever, but honestly that just makes the team look even worse if that's the case since they would have been dealing with bad optics for no reason. Either way, this team isn't going to come out unscathed in a backlash sense by the time all of this comes to a head.

Sadly I agree... the 'updates' over the past few months seem to have gotten more and more desperate; pushing people to the BR, showing off mounts as if they are somehow the most important part of the game (buy now!), and trying to get people to buy 'limited time only' digital junk.
I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see an announcement next year that they have run out of funding (or something to a similar effect). I backed the Kickstarter, but at this point I consider it lost money and AoC a lost cause for two major reasons:
1. Despite repeated requests from backers – and pretty much everyone else – to just make and talk about the MMO, that seems to be something the devs have little to no interest in doing.
2. With the level of monetisation they have already built up I wouldn't be at all surprised to see AoC the MMO (assuming it ever launches) turn out to be little more than a shallow P2W cash grab.
this company had alot of vallient knightly noble things to say about fixing a game together that would be better than archeage because acrhage supposably screwed them and was unfair. archeage is pay to win. everyone knows that. these guys say they'll deliver a game thats better. then... they release a battle royal so they can have the public test out the combat for that eventual mmo. why did they believe this would be socially acceptable? you just pissed everyone off right away because other companies have done this same feat. say they are releasing a cool new mmo but launch a battleroyal then give up on the mmo as the battle royal is now their bread wining money maker. no one even wants to help you try your battle royal out. we're discusteed with the battle royal overpopulated genre as it is. give what was promised after YOU fix it. we dont wanna test just the combat. we'll test your mmo but you can scrap this br and throw it far away asap. bye
I truly believe now they never had access to the $30M in funds to build the original game, all just a bunch of BS concocted by Sharif.
The plan all along appears to take the kickstater money, build BR which hopefully would have brought in enough funds to make the MMORPG.
Two or three years ago when this all started BRs were super hot, these days people have settled into their two or three favorites and just like with MOBAs, aren't very inclined to seek out new games.

People also need to stop using this "Steven is a nice guy" thing to find solice in supporting this thing. Ion Hazztogostis seems like a nice guy as well, but he was also a lawyer and knows how to manipulate people to divert backlash. So just because someone is a nice person outside of a business setting doesn't always translate. Just think about all those people who work retail/tele-communications, or even yourself if you have, and think about how many lies are told on a daily basis. Does that mean you're like that outside of work....?
I would say limping instead of dead. I was able to get matches on Monday with wait times of instant to 2 minutes(Forced myself to log in to finish the season pass.). Then again match sizes are down to 5 people from 8 last week. Also since there is a stand alone client, Steam Charts wouldn't give the entire picture. I would also be curious when/if they start selling the next season pass how many people will come back because the current one ends on Sunday(At least people having finished leveling the pass was the last reason I read for the current low population).
Although if people hate that they made a BR test ground, I wonder how they will react when/if the castle siege mode that they say they're working on comes out(I'd imagine this would take the place of the BR.).

Next time stick with the original plan.
