I've really gave this game more than enough opportunities to wow me. I have came in during three different periods of beta testing and gave them a good month or two from release before checking it out again with the free trial.
I cannot, in good conscience recommend this game for the follow reasons:
Graphics, (Even maxxed out this game still feels like it should be two years old.)
Features-Smeatures, (Yes it has a lot of dropped loot, but the loot doesn't feel significant. It's like having someone toss you slice after slice of bologna when all you want is one juicy steak. The missions are bland and lackluster; mostly requiring you to drive to point A then B then back to town. And the cars/character customization options are very cookie cutter.)
Buggy, (Crashed several times from the server side and had numerous onscreen glitch problems)
Not very fun, (MMORPGs should leave you wanting more and encourage social interaction. This game does neither. After zooming around and blowing stuff up for 15 minutes you pretty much have seen the scope of the game. And the most social interaction I've seen in this game was that time I was dry humped by Human bounty hunter's vehicle, which was coincidentally named Stinky Pinky.)
Empty, (A lot of a good MMORPGs appeal comes from the community. If its a bustling community theres always stuff to do and people to do it with. AA is a virtual ghost town. Any time of the day you'd be hard pressed to find more than one server with a population above 'Very Low'.)
Like many people I was pulling for this game, but it looks like it is on its way to a slow, agonizing cancellation. I hope they can pull it out but I"m not holding my breath. Do yourself a favor and go buy Guild Wars: Factions or rest your post-apocalyptic hopes on Fallen Earth.

NCSoft has a knack of making grinding games with not much content but alot of repetitive battling.
In my honest opinion this is a niche game and I see it being around for awhile because its unique and those niche people will get a kick out of it. There is just so much you can do driving around a car blowing up stuff.
1. The Graphics turned up to max are very nice and just as good as those in WoW/EQ2/Guild Wars/CoH/V. I have never crashed and the lag is so rare that I can pretty much say I do not have any issues with lag at all. The sound needs work but only because it keeps cutting out on me in some area's. Thought it was a sound card issue but it's not .
2. Features, Smeatures?? The "loot" is mainly useful to those people that are into crafting; if that's not your style then yeah I guess the bugs with drops would annoy me too. No one has said the game is bustling with players right now in fact, I think that's been listed as one of it's draw backs "right now". New game, new concept, not really advertised all that much; duh of course population is low right now. If you only drive around blowing things up the entire time in game, yeah that would get boring too. The social interaction is there if you look for it, oddly on Apocalypse I am constantly running into people.
3. Already mentioned the population in #2 however no one is going to hold your hand in game. If you want to get your groove on with a Convoy you are going to have to do more than just stand there and wait for an invite. With the additions coming for Convoy's I am guessing this will not be an issue later. *shrugs*
4. Pulling for this game? Honestly, I am not seeing anything significant in your post that would lead me to believe you not only played the game but managed to get past the tutorial during Beta and after release. It more or less appears as if you are just bad mouthing it. The missions and stories are very well written, the combat is endless the crafting is deep, customization ehh you didn't mention the crafting and whether or not you had tried it so, I will just assume from your post, crafting isn't your thing.
5. No mention of how far you got in the game both in skill and crafting to have any idea on why you feel that way or IF you had actually given the game a shot. With 80 levels and a new skill choice (if you want) every level, 4 Crafting tiers and many skill points to gain there as well as your Research skills for tinkering, enhancements, etc. AND your attributes, I am finding it hard to believe you really played the game much less gave it a shot.
Not that you should have to give a game a shot or anything but I just feel that if you are really going to post a "bad" review about a game and it's content (or lack there of), at least know enough to do it right.
Well everyone is entitled to their opinion but I notice that Smirch has a lot of preconceived notions about what an MMO should or shouldn't be. Auto Assault, not meeting most of his/her conventions, is therefore "bad".
I feel, on the other hand, that Auto Assault is fresh and different.
I have been playing these types of games since the 80's when the very first graphical or pseudo-graphical attempts (Islands + Legends of Kesmai, Kingdom of Drakkar, Scrolls of Chaos, and much later, Meridian 59) came out.
Does that mean you'll agree with me? No. It does mean I've seen a lot of these types of games, that's all.
My friend and I wholeheartedly recommend Auto Assault, and since they are now giving away 14-day free trials to anyone, if you're even remotely interested I think you owe it to yourself to try the game out.
P.S. Smirch's only point I'll contend with is Buggy. The game has been extremely stable for my friend and I (this was true when we tried it out in early beta as well) and a quick check of the Technical Support forums shows that there are not many problems and the problems that exist are generally not of the "game crashes" or "onscreen glitch" sort. It's entirely possible that Smirch's configuration had some rare problems with Auto Assault.
Gotta disagree with pretty much everything you had to say there.
1. The Graphics turned up to max are very nice and just as good as those in /EQ2 This is utterly laughable... Nowhere even close to being EQ2 quality...
2. Features, Smeatures?? The "loot" is mainly useful to those people that are into crafting; if that's not your style then yeah I guess the bugs with drops would annoy me too. Last night all servers said "Very Low Population", OUCH!

Hard to group when no one is playing the game...

Haven't tried the crafting myself... But voice-overs would have helped a lot for this game's questing... The font is too small in the mission windows, so no matter how good the story of AA is, it requires to much squinting to get into...
5. No mention of how far you got in the game both in skill and crafting to have any idea on why you feel that way or IF you had actually given the game a shot. Well, he clearly has tried the game and came to the same conclusion I did after 30 minutes, and that conclusion is this: MMO's in cars suck.
Not that you should have to give a game a shot or anything but I just feel that if you are really going to post a "bad" review about a game and it's content (or lack there of), at least know enough to do it right.
There is such thing as a "right" way to review something? Why don't you just accept the fact that he doesn't like the game? Hell, most people who tried it do not like it... Certainly not worth $15.00 a month... If the game were free to play after you buy the box, then that would change everything... The character models look dull, the customization options are lacking (especially compared to CoH) and the beginning vehicles suck... In fact most of the vehicle models are bland as hell too... I would give this game a 4/10, 3 is a tad too low, but pretty close...
The only saving grace for this game is the future possibility of a NCSoft version of the 'All Access Pass'... Sort of like PlanetSide was...
No way in hell is AA, WoW, CoH/CoV or any other game in the same league graphically as EQ2. Thats like saying Martha Stewart is as hot as Jenna Jameson.
Despite all its faults EQ2 still has the best graphics of any MMORPG out right now. Vanguard will be giving them a run for their money and thats saying something since EQ2 has been out forever and VG is still in production.
If you are saying that they are in the same general ballpark in any way shape or form then you have obviously not played EQ2 on the extreme quality setting.
But don't let that dishearten you dude. Go have fun playing AA with the two dozen other subscribers. Just saying that I wouldn't recommend it to someone looking to spend 50 bucks.
No he is right the font is too small.

CoHSucks I think went overboard, and crossed the line to completely childish. I'm sorry my observations left me completely bored and back here posting so YOU have something to read while at work.
I've only been posting the past couple of days, but I'm noticing that the reason I left WoW is probably the same reason I never posted here prior til just recent. The forums, WoW and many other places are too accessible. There maybe freedom of speech, but theres also the rite to remain silent.
Simply put, whether I spent 30 minutes or a year playing a game to give my opinion someone will still say the same damn thing just to be the one to get an arguement started.

What tactics? rebuffing all his "30 minutes of gametime observations"? Addressing his points and countering? Yeah, I respect you have an opinion, but you want to post smack on a messege board, expect to get called to the carpet by people with opposing views.
And i couldn't care less what his 1/2 hour of playing opinion is. Who cares what a guy who plays through(maybe) the whole tutorial then decides to smack talk the game as if he has a clue says. Give some critisizm with actual facts and game experience behind it, and I might give some merit to the views.
Oh yeah... your Xfire sig says you have >1 hour of playtime for AA, just thought I'd let you know.
And i did not quote you, I quoted Dis_Ordur
This tactic right here how do you know he is a bad person? He just doesn't like the game. Your never gonna get a change of opnion with this attitude. Your best bet would be to share with everyone why you like the game, and outline the aspects that make it great.

Yeah tryed the trial myself today and I have the same feeling as the OP.
Driving my car is neat and novel. The turret gun is a blast but it all breaks down in my mind fast. As I notice the graphics portray something different then you actually get to play.
It looks like you get a car but it turns out that in this world the only thing that lives in the world are cars. Everywhere important is designed for a car to move around in. Hallways are all big enough for cars and designed for highway driving most anywhere. My mind quickly flipped and saw the car as nothing more then a character like in any other mmorpg. Especially given all I have seen is fedex and gather missions so far.
Firing that gun the first few times is really impressive even a liberating feeling. I couldnt wait to mow down mobs with the starting full auto chain gun. Unfortunatly again what I seem to have is not what I really get. The giant gun wont kill a normal person in one shot or even with what appears to be 100s of rounds at near point blank range.
I guess I am put off by seeing one thing suggested and getting another.
Oh and the AA offical forums are hidden so you all get to suffer this rant.

Im not trying to change his opinion, he doesn't like the game after giving it a whole 1/2 hour, then proceeds to tell people not to try the game. A 1/2 hour on an MMO is hardly enough time to go telling others the game sucks.
Don't like it, fine. How about he tells us he doesn't like it and no one should buy it after reaching at least..oh I dunno..level 10 maybe..out of 80 levels?
There is no tactic, I just disagree that someone who has not played enough to leav the newbie area has any credibility.
BTW, never said he was a "bad person".
I finally made it to level 21 w/ my biomek and find out it gets more interesting. Especially whenit comes to the Faction and Specialty points.
This mindmaster is a trip! I just wish I knew where to dump the points. So far I see the MM class can be healers, have a crap load of pets to deploy (all pets doing different functions) and this car I just Bought, the sickle, it is badass looking.. Reminds me of some steroid hot wheels car.
ROFL.. If you would of asked me if I be playing AA a month ago, I woulda told you, you need help. This game probably isnt for everyone, but I am having a hell of a time playing. And believe me, I remember the commie 64 days, so there goes my maturity level.
The only way you can judge this game officially is by getting to end level. But still at level 21, I am enjoying the game especially the new areas. The key to this game is, make friends in it. Your time will be more enjoyable instead of soloing the game.

The OP never said how long he actually played. It was the 2nd poster that said he only played for 30 min, but its the first posters comments you are refuting.
I agree 30 min generally is not enough time to judge a game(in most cases).
Yes you did not call him a bad person, but saying that AA will be better off without him is tantamont to the same thing.
Its been my observation you get more response with using carrots as opposed to a stick that is really the only point I am trying to make here.

Alright, I will conceed I came off a bit harsh then. I don't know him, and I take back the comment. The game can use more people for sure, and I hope that more people join and have a better experience like I am so they will stay.
I think the graphics are on par with modern MMOs on the market with bloom , AA, and all effects maxed. The heat shimmers and explosions are great looking and add a lot to the adrenaline rush I feel when blowing a building to bits and watching it crumble as I drive through it blasting away.
The sound can use some work, particularly the engines. They sound way to under powered, and could use a more "beefy" rumble. Right now they can sound like a lawnmower at times.
I have never crashed yet, but I have had the screen go black on occasion, as another poster mentioned. I dont have any trouble reading the font, but an option to increase the size would be good, but not very important.
I think the number and quality of mission writting is impressive. They are the usual MMO fare, with kill X of Y, take X to Y, kill X till you have Y number of Z, and follow waypoints. The reasons for doing the missions is often interesting and well written.
Jumping of a cliff while firing your chaingun at a helicopter gunship hovering and firing at you, while an enemy car is on your tail firing his flamethrower at you is more fun than other games to me. Much more fun than "pull closest mob, wait till he clears his group, taunt and hold agro while healer spams and mage nukes".
The servers are pretty smooth, and I don't get lag very often at all.
The game needs work, for sure. But the 1.09 patch is coming soon, and promises many needed fixes, missions, and convoy updates to improve the game over all. NCsoft make good games, and know what they are doing in my experience. CoX was fantastic until Emmert came swinging the nerfbat for PvP. But they were great with updates(except the nerfs), fixes and quality control. I have faith that AA will follow suit.
There is a 14 day trial, so people risk nothing to try it, I hope many will stay.
Human Commando-Breakdown lvl 16
Lvl 7 Engineer (Kick arse Fun)
Auto Assault
World of Warcraft
Return To Castle Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory
Some very interesting aspects in the two above posts concerning the game. I am especially looking forward to the part were I get to fire a a helicopter gun ship while jumping off a cliff with another adversary on my tail. That sounds like a lot of fun. Secondonly its good to hear that the level of quests will continue into the higher levels. Most games will start off with a good amount and then leave you hanging later on to just grind away to get those levels to get to the end game content.
I myself have found the graphics to be on par with other MMO's that have been released recently. One of AA's strenghts is that there isn't a bloody elf in sight. There are far too few of the non cookie cutter WOW or EQ2 games out on the market right now. This one stands out with a unique angle having your avatar (mostly) as a vehicle.
The areas I was most disappointed about thus far was the avatar customization. While I have found ways to customize the vehicle your personal avatar was very cookie cutter. I know NC Soft is capable of making a very nice character customization engine so I was rather disappointed to find that they did not in this case. Thus far I have had a good time so I will continue playing the trial, and if things pick up I may even buy the game.
