And the video was also well produced - not just a put the camera in front of this weeks chosen sacrifice. Nine different people covering different aspects as well. A whistle stop - but informative - tour.
Amazon has got all the money in the world if they cant make a good MMO then Amazon should stop making games henceforth!
Money only goes so far. It's direction and talent that'll dictate how well this game does. They can throw all the money in the world at this game and it could still not do well or play well. It could be a bloody buggy, incomplete mess.
Having been apart of the Alpha, I can honestly say I am a bit surprised they just straight announced a launch date and it being in the near future. Having going from Alpha to straight release, Im a bit skeptical...but willing to give it a try.

My So thoughts on New World are not looking so good. what I really get out of game is that it's an open world mmo that's rather boring unless pvp is your thing. There are no live dynamic events to partake in . No real reason for social Interaction beyond your group and the end game doesn't seem very far off in the distance . So if they got rid of the survival part of the game is taming creatures still the only way to get a mount ? Because that seems very survival esk to me . No body wants a gank box also no one wants a boring mmo . Look at life is fudel mmo or Gloria Victus they don't have a very big player base but arguably have alot more innovation then this game is claiming to have. The only thing this game might have going for it is the big population numbers. But from what I herd they will be rather hard to tansverse the landscape making large numbers of people in the same area rather remote. I predict this game will be a flop if 2 things don't happen 1 innovation beyond population numbers which make the game a blast to play . 2 more traditional MMORPG on a massive scale thinking BDO both of which I don't see in this game. But I guess we will see.
It looks like they added ALOT of content since alpha, however my experience of the game was a listless, trudge of building basic items with no story elements to engage with whatsoever. It felt like ARK in a grayer environment. I will try it out again due to the lack of new MMOs in general, but I doubt I'll get hooked.
it looks interesting but i noticed they only showed a warrior archetype. I wonder how they will implement magic archetypes, if at all.
Chapter 1.
My crystal ball sees many chapters in our futures between now and the (planned) launch in May.
If you go back to the preview we posted last week after TGA reveal, David from the NW team said that Azoth, the supernaturally potent mineral on Aeternum, gifts players with magical abilities and that there will be different schools of magic you can join.
I'm sure we'll see that fleshed out in a dev diary, but from my discussion with him it sounds like the skill paths we see with the Warrior will also be similar with magic users.
Aesthetically it looks nice. I do like pvp but also dont mind that they took mindless ganking out of the equation. To me from what i seen in vids it looks like the MMO version of Outward, big open spaces with not alot of content in between, but i can be entirely wrong.
So true , look at SC, they have so much money and still can't push out a game and probably never will.
Yes money doesn't mean a game will be good but it seriously increases the chances. Also means they don't have to push it out a buggy mess - again they might but they don't have to.
And there is no comparison with start ups like SC.
New World: we will need a staff of 30 artists, 50 coders etc etc. Somebody from HR sorts out the job descriptions, the advertising, arranges the interview slots and so forth. The staff arrive.
SC: we will need a staff of 30 artists, etc. 3 years later. We can now afford to increase from 20 to 30, if only we had some HR staff to arrange the interviews and do so much publicity stuff to keep the money coming in so we don't have to let everyone go we could spend more time on the game.
MJ talked several months ago about the effort needed to get the "right" staff and it was clear that it wasn't "easy".
Amazon is in a different league - even from the likes of EA, Ubisoft etc. let alone start-ups. And they are not simply creating New Worlds but "Amazon Games" the budget for which has clearly been massive e.g. $60-$80M for CryEngine (4.2?); a huge team to resolve years of bugs, other engines (!) acquired via purchases that are also incorporated into Lumberyard along with a raft of additional features. On "day 1". (i.e. the stuff they funded on day 1 that probably took a few months to implement - planned hires made, game engines bought etc.)
So I agree that money doesn't guarantee great things but don't discount it. And certainly don't compare it to any start up - even SC that has managed to raise over 8 years what Amazon Games may have spent on "day 1".
Do you believe that NW will launch btw - or are you sceptical? Haven't really seen anything after all so maybe its a scam!
(To be clear I have no doubts that "something" will launch.)

There will be a beta before release in May

Actually no, if you look carefully at :24 seconds in, you can see a magic user wielding the new Staff weapon.
