My mindset has always been that games make better gifts than hardware. They have emotions, experiences, and memories inside them.

My dad is going to appreciate a long RPG more than a controller or headset. He still replays the Horizon Zero Dawn I got him last year.

I don’t really understand how Pixio gets a mention. Must be a sponsor deal. Look at review numbers around and you see no one’s buying them and they aren’t great quality wise. They aren’t cheap either so again no reason to buy one over an AOC or Acer.

I disagree. I've used several extensively personally and for reviews and have read reviews for all of their displays. They largely review as a good value for the money, excepting their stands which have recently been improved. In fact, in the context of my review work for different outlets, I have directly compared AOC and Pixio displays. AOC does better stands (until recently) and RGB. The PX7 had better image quality and cost less.

Obviously, this was a 1:1 comparison. That may be different with a wider sample size.

What no consoles for Xmas? No VR gear? And yes, popular games are always a good idea. :-)

If you're not getting some sort of compensation for articles like this, you're doing it wrong.

I realize that this article is basically a list of things you've reviewed.  But recommending a Gigabyte AORUS SSD in particular is just weird when you can get almost exactly the same thing from a different brand for $30 or $40 cheaper.  Do you really think that Gigabyte is $30 worth of better at attaching things to a PCB than Corsair, Sabrent, or Team are at attaching exactly the same components to their own PCB?  Or perhaps that Gigabyte's small heatsink is $30 better than both Sabrent's bare SSD that lets you attach your own heatsink and also Corair's larger heatsink?

SSD: Right now the best is likely Intel 660p series NVMe SSD. At the moment you can get 1TB space at $90. It's not the fastest, but it's fast enough and really cheap.

CPU: Right now Ryzen 5 2600 and some B450 chipset motherboard offer best price/performance. You can get the combo at bit over $200. If you want something faster, then Ryzen 5 3600X is a good choice.

GPU: Good purchases at them moment are cheap RX 570 models, cheap GTX 1650 Super (not the non-super ones), and RX 5700 models.

RAM: RAM is cheap right now. You should be able to get 16GB at somewhere between $50 - $65. For Ryzen system try to go for something like DDR4-3000 or DDR4-3200. Faster is better, but the really fast ones aren't worth their price.

Other hardware: If you're looking for something to buy but don't know quite what, I'd recommend noise-cancelling headphones. They're nice for someone who already has everything that he needs and is looking for a gadget that's not necessary but could be occasionally useful.

Most important criteria for being recommended in your holiday guide is "Must give product sample to MMORPG.com".

A large hardware site who reviews just about all important products in their chosen category could get away with that, but MMORPG.com review coverage is spotty at best, and as a result your gift guide is "Choice picks from MMORPG.com partners you could buy as a gift".

I think these sort of Xmas gifts maybe more for yourself than other people. I am very good to myself this time of year. :D

This isn't true. As the person who wrote this, I wanted to make recommendations I could stand by. Yes, that does mean I've reviewed many of them (no one could afford to buy all of this) but I can say, on a personal level, that yes, they're good products.

I'm not questioning that they're good products.  But as one tech reviewer is fond of saying in some markets, there are no bad products, but only bad prices.  Go here, for example:

    https://www.newegg.com/p/pl?N=100011693 600414920 601342076

You have eight essentially identical SSDs.  They all have exactly the same SSD controller.  They probably have exactly the same NAND flash.  Some of the PCBs likely differ a little in ways that would be indiscernable to end users.  What they do for a heatsink differs substantially.

But the most notable way that the SSDs differ is the price tag.  You can pay $170, $180, $180, $190, $210, $214, $240, or $250 for almost exactly the same thing.  And you recommend paying $210, apparently.  Because reasons, or something.

It's understandable to pay a few dollars extra to get a heatsink for the SSD.  That's why Sabrent offers two models and effectively charges $10 to get a heatsink included.  But what's the argument for paying $210 rather than $170 or $180 or $190 for the same product?  That other people should buy from Gigabyte because they sent you a review sample?  That's why I said above, if you're making that argument without being compensated for it, you're doing it wrong.

It's not hard recommending something, if you didn't have to pay for it yourself.
If you stood in a hardware store, and you had to pick one item, i'm pretty sure none of the above would
be bought, as they were all given for free for "review", i wished i could block all the hardware reviews on this site, they are totally crap, and none gives a sh.. but hey they get the item to review, and get payed to review them, a couple times a week, it's revenue right, who cares about the customer, money is money.
You make it sound as if you're being forced to click these links. You're not. You don't like it, move on. It's really not difficult. You're so off base it's not even funny. We review a HUGE array of gear, most weeks 5-7 days of the week. Second, the writers aren't paid. Third, some things companies don't want to pay to ship back. 99.9% of things go into storage because how often do you need a new keyboard, RAM kit, whatever. And fourth, you're all right on one thing, most of these are review samples. There are cheaper options. I can't vouch for them or link to content for extra information. In this season, especially, I would genuinely appreciate a more charitable viewing of my intentions and character please. Hardware is a value add here. It takes nothing away and only adds be articles for folks who may be interested in it. No writer has ever been taken from game coverage, ever, to so a hardware review. I can also see the metrics that many people do read and return to these reviews. So again, if you don't like it, there are no hard feelings. Just move on. You actively made your own day worse by opening this when you could tell what it was from the title. I don't understand that. To everyone else, whether you agree or disagree with the article, thanks for taking time to offer your feedback. I hope you all have a Merry Christmas.

Imagine getting a $500 video card for christmas. Reminds me of car commercials this time of year. I cant help chuckling every time I see a brand new ford or chevy with a bow on it on the TV. Only the daughters of video game executives get those kinds of gifts.

The problem with this list is in order to get any of these items as a gift, there would have to be a gift giver. And as that gift giver would be my wife, well, let's just say it ain't happening.

But my yard could use a pink Flamingo! Maybe next year that makes the list.
