I was gifted an Oculus Quest for Christmas

Thanks mostly to my daughter-in-law's 6 month locum with Oculus in Redmond (part of her robotics and haptics research) I'm now the proud owner of a Quest.

I'm just barely scratching the surface and doing things like watching VR "experiences" from YT VR and watching Prime and Netflix on it (Netflix lying down is a nice new experience :)

I started to do the PC link thing but ran into a problem with the USB > USB-C cables I had around. I have a new one that's supposed to work well coming from Amazon next week so I'll carry on after that. I also enabled developer mode and apparently that lets me do some side loading of some stuff to enable Steam VR on it.

Any suggestion for RPG/Adventure/shooters or anything else from any of you with a Quest would be much appreciated.

Try Skyrim or Fallout VR edition.
    It’s a good start.

The only thing I can suggest is that you don't play any of those silly "VR" games as you might stumble over your coffee table and snap your neck...which would make you a prime candidate for the 'Darwin Award'! :dizzy:

I'm not that mobile. Sitting down VR is a must for me.

Good idea. They're both games I liked and played a lot.

Asgards Wrath is brilliant and one of the best VR games ever made imo
Moss is really good in VR as well. As is 'In Death' that is a really cool game. Also NMS of course. We also did a VR port of Hellblade ;)
Yet Asgard's Wrath is next level VR. Just awesome.
I'd forgotten about Asgard's Wrath. That does look like a must play for me.

I know it isn't a RPG but Beat Saber is hands down my favorite thing to do in VR.

Skyrim is fun but gets a little old.

Superhot is really fun as well.

Climb is a fun little climbing adventure.

Mount Wingsuit, I put my ex-airborne green beret grandfather into, and he had a blast.

I have put a crapton of time into E:D as well.

That's both my son's and daughter's favorite one too. They played the crap out of that one on his Quest after Christmas dinner. It's a bit too active for me at my age. My balance is pretty bad and ducking  down to dodge flying objects sucks lol.

From all my friends with VR headsets- after the first month or 2 - none of them use them anymore.

You might be the exception, but chances are... short term fun and done

NFW... I'm already addicted to Netflix lying on my back with the screen following my head position.

Someone who hates the idea of VR even more than me...

I wear on the ear headphones instead of wrap arounds because I can't stand not being able to hear sounds in the RW well.

The idea of not being able to see outside of the screen..... shudder.

You must play Vendetta Online (Jedi hand waves), you must!

Sideload it from the Go store with SideQuest, or so I'm told.  Seriously, though: it's how the game was meant to be experienced, imo.

That's what I though too but you can mark a boundary for playing and just poking your head outside the boundary lets you see everything... with the Quest it's a B&W camera but it does the job.

Beat Saber is the best game on VR currently. Tetris Effect is a great second. You're basically waiting for half-life VR game to come out.

I didn't enjoy skyrim VR, moving around the world feels awkward. Asgard's is decent but felt kinda gimmicky after a few hours. My wife likes Moss but its not my cup of tea. She's got like 15 games and I've tried most of them. Until first person movement is better solved it's just not my cup of tea.

VR is amazing. I love that you're enjoying it. VR is much more than people think or maybe tried on their friends headset that uses a cell phone. Make sure you get the right kind of cable to link to your computer. It makes a big difference.

As mentioned, Skyrim, Fallout and Asgard's Wrath are fun. I would also like to add Stormland. It is absolutely amazing. It's fairly open world has a great story, great mechanics and great action. Boneworks is also supposed to be good (I haven't played it yet).

No Mans Sky, The Forrest, From other Suns, Lone Echo and Robo Recall are also pretty good.

The best "mmo" style game you can play is probably Elite Dangerous. It's how Eve Online should be played. There's also Orbus Reborn and A Township Tale, but the Wii style art has made me put them on the back burner for a while I play other things.  Orbus does give you a cool example of spellcasting requiring you to carve full 3d runes in the air to cast spells.

Also, don't be afraid to look at some of the strategy table top style games like Brass Tactics and Defense Grid. Any of the flight and driving games will be beyond anything you've seen before and might be a good option if you have to game sitting down.

Of all the VR "experiences" I've seen so far a high speed motorcycle racing one was the one that affected me the most - made me a bit dizzy actually :) High speed on a vehicle in VR is just amazing.

So much this - other than nausea and headaches - first person movement sucks - often VR fanatics just are not able to have a realistic look at current VR limitations are are like "but VR's awesome".

It could be awesome one day - we are not there yet.

For me, it was something that took getting used to; I had to get my "VR legs".

The very first time I tried it, my inner ears were freaking out a bit.  As time went on, the physical side effect became less pronounced. Within a month, I was zooming around in Quake like nobody's business.

The quest is less powerful but self contained: doesn't need to be attached to a a PC or anything else but it can be if you want to play Oculus Rift or Steam VR games.

I have no issues with nausea or headaches. After a few sessions, that pretty much goes away unless you seek it out like a roller coaster sim. Saying first person movement is a limitation only proves you dislike something you haven't had much experience with, which I continually find odd that people push against something so hard with such obvious limited experience... then again, it is you that we're talking about.

Have you tried the Vader Immortal experiences? I have not but I'm curious to see a new players take on them.
