Guys they aren't with activision anymore! Give them a break! 2 weeks into shadowkeep and I knew where this was going. Tired of everyone jumping on the bandwagon and trying to make a quick buck for as little effort as possible. It wouldn't be so bad if the actual content in shadowkeep was good but it's not.

I was considering this game but I think the download was 100 gigs? It would take me a week at least to download that with my  internet out in the burbs.

The game itself is pretty great. I've played it for 50 hours so far enjoyed it. The only thing that keeps me away from it is the loading times. At times it takes like 10 minutes to get into one, which is just bananas.

What Bungie is offering in Eververse store are purely cosmetic items. Which are seasonal. And i repeat, cosmetics only. They need to make money somehow so they put most of the best cosmetics on their store. I don't see what his problem is. How else is Bungie supposed to pay developers for providing patches every single week, and big content update every few months. The content of Destiny 2 is quality, with a lot of puzzles challenges, easter eggs, etc ...
They try really hard, they listen to community feedback most of the times so what more do you expect from free2play game ?
Most of the free to play online games are pay2win, or they lock basics suchs as inventory space, dungeon entry, gear progression behind a paywalls.
Seasonal events offer no overpowered weapons, but enable players to progress faster.
Free to play version is similar to demo version, you try it and if you like you saved up and buy additinal content. If you don't like it you only lost time, but no money. Be happy Bungie provides free to play version. All of free to play versions of certain games work in this way.

I really don't see the point behind his post on reddit.
Feel free to elaborate if you think i am wrong.

I think the bigger issue is that the game is a daily/weekly quest grinding slog to mask the fact that it only has a couple week's worth of unique content (if I'm being generous).

I dont personally follow Destiny 2 but isn't the Evererse 100% cosmetic? Not trying to utilize that as an excuse but I guess it depends on what the items are. I'm sure b2p eso has equally as much on their cash shop ontop of other things.

Who cares? It's a cosmetic shop. Nothing is P2W. You don't like the prices don't buy anything!

I play Path of Exile and I don't buy anything from that cash shop. Speaking of PoE why doesn't anyone complain about their cash shop? It's way worse than Eververse! A simple weapon skin is over $20 in PoE! A weapon skin in Destiny 2 is $5.

Because PoE is F2P, while Destiny 2 is B2P. It's as simple as that. It kinda sucks knowing that the money I spend on buying a game doesn't actually give me access to the whole thing.

But hey.. at least it's not an MMO that makes you pay for the box, a sub AND cosmetics. Looking at you, Elder Scrolls Online.

Destiny 2 went f2p, though it still has paid expansions of largely dubious value.

people have been complaining about PoE's cash shop since it opened lol. even the people that bought $1k+ supporter packs will tell you their pricing model is shit.

HOWEVER they're in no rush to change it because most of their sales come from supporter packs, not the mtx store itself.

It seems from what posters say this is just cosmetics, but I do wonder can you sell these items for in game gold and buy items which are not cosmetics? Items which have a game impact that cannot be bought in the cash shop? That was how BDO designed its P2W system, so I do raise a question now when people say it is just cosmetics.
  • koldmiserkoldmiser Member RarePosts: 353
I would also point out at least in Destiny 2 you can earn Brightdust which lets you buy items from Eververse. Yes, it's limited to a small selection, but it rotates.

You cannot sell anything in the game to other players for in game currency at all.

The item shop is purely cosmetic. Ppl are mad the in game armor looks like ass (90% really does) and the skins to cover it are $15 per suit (which unlocks it forever on your account, not that big of a bonus since all armor is class locked and the cosmetic armor skins are also class locked). Armor skins are class specific, weapon skins are weapon specific (ie a lord of wolves shotgun alternate skin only works on the lord of wolves shotgun).

Dont want the skins dont buy them, but really destiny is more about what looks cool than what plays better. And I leave you with this...how many ppl spent ages camping a specific item in wow or eq or anarchy online, etc? Many spent months and months of subbed time farming non stop just for a look. So $15 per month sub (times how many months to complete) to farm for X look vs a ftp game where you spend $15 to buy the look you kinda want more than the base ugly armor so you can look slightly less ugly (I play warlock...all lock gear is fugly). It kinda all washes out in the end.

oh how they have squandered their divorce from activision.... personally i was excited for them as a company to get their creative freedom back seems greed is the only thing these morons care about seems the separation was just to get more $ from their eververse.. sad.

I understand the complaint that there is not much to get from playing the event and all items are locked behind a paywall. That is what I read. Why play an event that offers you nothing for playing unless helps the grind to get the currency to buy what is in a shop for a limited time.

I know a lot is repetitive but this is why I think I am staying away and prefer Warframe (not perfect game but happy with it) because repetition is part of the game but Warframe offers me so much more to do. They may do what Warframe does and slowly finds ways to introduce limited time items back in a way to get them. At the moment though this event sounds rough when there is not much to even go for unless grinding currency.

I havent played a ton of f2p games, but the cash shop, as well as the pass and expansions, in Destiny 2 are completely optional and very tame compared to the few others I have tried. The pass itself is worth more than most $10 games on steam, imo.

I put almost 100 hours into the game before buying an expansion. I enjoy the game, have supported the devs, and have almost 400 hours played now. If more games did it this way, I would be able to try more games and the developers would have to work harder to make the game great so I will continue to enjoy and support it, as opposed to expecting a preorder for a half finished mess.

Maybe if you lack any semblance of imagination. How is this different than nearly any other MMO on the market now?

you aren't the only one. Every time i recommend a game to my cousin who lives back in my home country so we can play together, we talk again a week or more later after his game downloads too.

If the size of these games was because of how much content they had i wouldn't complain, but it's all graphics textures. Completely unnecessary. Games with far more content than D2 can easily get half that file size.

I don't bother with most of the events. There's so much else to do in the game, i don't have the time and the rewards are usually a bit crappy. Not sure about this SMG, it seems ok but I think it's let down by the range on it. I'll stick to farming Obelisks and get some god roll weapons from that instead.
