Escape From Tarkov Devs Confirm No Playable Female Characters Due to

Battlestate Games, developers behind Escape from Tarkov, have confirmed there will be no playable female characters in the game because of "game lore" and the "huge amount of work needed with animations."

It's a great game that's been exposed to a wider audience than the developers ever intended. Streamers brought in the normie hordes, unfortunately.
It'd be like having a bunch of schlubs from a 24 hour fitness coming to my powerlifting/strongman spot and telling us how to be more accommodating to them. You wouldn't want us in a step class either. Not every game is for every gamer. That isn't the worst thing in the world.

If they don't have time / / money for the models thats fine. If it was only female playable characters and they said the same thing. . that is their call.

It sounds like it is a resource limitation. . they should have maybe left the "lore" part out and maybe people would have accepted it more

I actually had to look up what this game was about now. For some reason I thought it was about escaping some kind of prison this whole time, so I was about to say that actually makes sense!

...Then I read it's about a city and that sense went out the window...

Let's compare a studio with 80 (with almost half of that team being outsourced) people to a company with 14,000. Or if we're going studio size then we can compare BSG to Ubisoft Quebec which has 484. Still significantly more manpower that can go towards a game.

why would i want to shoot female characters in a game like Tarkov? when i see Cohh Carnage streaming it I get goosebumps just for the atmosphere of the game.

This game isn't for me because it looks like BR, but the developers had a vision and if that vision only involves male gangs killing each other while trying to escape that spooky as hell city then I'm OK with it.

Good on them. Not for not including women in their game but for not caving to pressure by gaming journalists/twitter mobs to comply and alter their game to toe this imaginary line. It's a free market, any game developer is free to create a game populated entirely by any one gender/animal/innanimate object they choose and it will do well if it's fun to play. Anyone bothered by it is free to not buy it.

The game is freaking brilliant.
I just started playing a few days ago and it's nice to have a hardcore FPS with no compromises.

Going out and hunting for other players and looting them feels like going out on solo roam in EvE's low/nullsec. Wearing your shiny stuff risking to lose it all.

I don't particularly care about female models.. that's fine and I'd rather they spend the dev time on adding more content.. though there's a lovely variety of maps and an insane amount of different equipment you can use.

I played as a Scav learning the maps and my first raid with my PMC, I lasted 52 seconds

I've got a 10% extraction rate but enjoying the time I stay alive and learning a lot

I agree with the game lore. It wouldn't make sense otherwise. Tell me how many female PMC's you know about IRL? Ever heard of blackwater? PMCs are not just some magical entity. They do exist and 1 gender primarily dominates the occupation, hence game lore.

No one was arguing and the like. I understand about them needing to moderate better. There is a Witcher thread out there that proves your point. This is just stating a news article that everyone is talking about from Kotaku to IGN. PCGamer and I even saw a lot of tweets about it from people in the game industry.

Yup, but the problem is that articles like these are creating an arena for political discussion with a clear bias. If I made a thread labeled "Trump is a neanderthal. Fk republicans," or "Pelosi sucks, fk democrats," that thread would get locked so hard and I'd get infracted faster then I can refresh the page. Or a closer example if I created a thread saying "SBS hates women. Here's an old tweet of caspian saying women are inferior beings," again, infracted and locked.

Some things should not be reported on if it violates their own rules or more importantly baits people into violating their rules.

I interpreted this news as they were having trouble with the implementation of their boob physics system, and couldn't decide on 3 or 4 boob sliders. I guess that could count that as lore.

Pretty sure 13 of those WMs quit last time I heard. Don't know what the number is down to now. As for the Army one, heard something worse.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not against them. Hope the military becomes 90% female. I really do. Get called up for the draft as well. All about it!

30 have graduated since 2015 and half of them have quit. Statistically speaking seems like a rare occupation they choose to do.

Their reasons might be silly, but most games don't let you play as a female. Who cares? Most women would rather play male characters anyways because they don't want people to know they are a woman.

It does not bother me to play male characters. I used to only like playing female characters in MMORPGs because it is like how I used to play dress up with paper dolls as a little girl but it doesn't matter that much to me at all if it is a lore or story thing. I mean in Path of Exile I played the male only classes too without any problems.

The "woke" comment aside, I completely agree.

If they just want to have all men and that works with their vision then that should be fine. Same if a game developer wanted all women though I also think there would be a contingent of "guys" who would scream bloody murder "I'm a guy and I player a guy!"

Creators should be able to create what they want and players just make the decision to play or not. Not every game is for everyone. Nor should they be.
