The good days, the Daoc days

Now don't get me wrong, I havent played daoc in well... since EQ then WoW came out.

DAOC wasnt without its flaws don't get me wrong but I am sad that I haven't seen a good combination of systems used all togeather that make a game come togeather nice and tight.

Listen up DEVs this is what I want in a game.

A WoW or UO or even EQ2 type of resource gathering system.
A DAOC type of crafting system.Where you can get really really lucky and get really really good results, if you put enough time and effort into it. (aka rare items)
A DAOC type of pvp territory system with catapults and battering rams, where you dont have to 'zone' in (hell that doesnt even matter really) and actually taking territory... matters.
A DAOC type of special ability rewards system, minus the really annoying 'you can only get this ability if you havethe expansion' part of the DAOC system. Look I know its hard to balance, but adding like 10 minor abilities per class type shouldn't be to to bad.
A WOW pvp item reward system
A WOW or DAOC pvp honor system
A WOW non forced pvp system, there should be NO gain if you pve in a pvp area rather then in a pve... EVER say what you want, its just the way it should be. I shouldn't get bonuses for putting my neck out on the line to other players so I can level up, thats rediculous.
A EPIC SOLOABLE DUNGEON WHY HAS NOONE DONE THIS ?!? where you can do it by yourself, but its very challenging and requires strategy and tactics to beat.
Most of the PVE systems out there work, so lets start focusing on the stuff that matters.
This includes, epic raid instances, better solo play, and catering to the NON power gamer.
A UO type of thievery, im sorry if your going so far as pvp you should go all the way.

DAOC came close
WOW came close
EQ2 is laughable
EVE is pretty damn good, but totally a different subject there.

Of course non covered subjects that should be in a game, since they were there since UO include...

housing ownership
guilds
bounties
etc.... etc...

I dunno guess I just miss the good ol days

DaoC crafting? Look dude, don't misunderstand because I loved DaoC, my account is active right now in fact, but their crafting was AWFUL. Buy materials from merchant then watch the green bar, rinse, repeat, at least TWENTY THOUSAND TIMES in order to make a Legendary Grandmaster. And even then the items you make are inferior to what could be acquired from an organized raid on an epic mob.

Since Catacombs came out there is an instance designed for a single group of eight, no more than that are even allowed, in which the drops are far superior to anything your LGM makes.

In fact crafting in DAOC is so bad that the next patch is supposed to completely overhaul the entire crafting system.

You know whose crafting I actually enjoyed? I shouldn't say because I only played the game for a bit in beta, the crafting may have gotten awful at later levels, but at early levels I enjoyed Horizon's approach to it. Especially after just playing DaoC the crafting there seemed FAR more interesting. You needed to be a lot more interactive. You gathered materials, used different tools, traveled around. You felt like you were DOING something.

Usually when crafting in DaoC I read a book or watched TV.

    ...and the winner is:

WAR: Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning!

Ok, it probably won't have all the stuff you ask, but will prolly take the best of DaoC and the best of WoW to go even closer that model than both ever did.

    Gotta agree with this one.
Don't be too harsh on the OP though. Not all of us have had a chance to try nearly every freaking MMO out there.

    MMO Fav List:
    Lineage 2 | 5x Silver Ranger, 7x Shillien Elder <- Active
    WoW | 6x Rogue, 1x Priest
    Anarchy Online | 8x MetaPhysicist
Saga of Ryzom | Matis Light Armourer

Waiting for: Age of Conan, Lineage 3

Actually I have tried horizons and you are correct about it being one of the better crafting systems out there, but then again all I have to say is... a tale in the desert, however the resource gathering in horisonz IS very similar to WoW, and yes the crafting in horizons is better, however when I say DAOC crafting I mean take the good elements, not take the bad ones...

Take the 1/1000 chance to make a masterpiece one of a kind item
Take the long grind to skill crafting so its not an easy thing to achieve
Take the ability to modify your weapon with enchants, and sockets
Take the need for OTHER classes to work with you to create certain items
Take the ability to build siege engines
Take that the items are actually used on a constant basis by players and wear with time.

    Take this, and nothing more.

Obviously when I said WoW resource gathering after daoc crafting I wasnt talking about taking the buying from merchants in daoc, thats a no brainer.

To me having the highly rare chance at a super item is a problem unless there is a great control on this.  A problem I have in these games is the  unreasonable production output by a single character.  Put a limit of say 8 crafting opportunities on any given day, then that is more reasonable to me.

I would rather pull my fingernails out one by one than level another crafter in DAoC.  Awful.  They are supposedly revamping their crafting system tho.

DAoC in the good ol days was great, but expansions and dumb decisions on class balance screwed up a potentially great game.  After what Mythic has done with DAoC, I'm staying far away from WHO.

Going to have to second this, though add that Ryzom's foraging was at its best in focus beta before the whole game's direction took a turn for the worse.

    I'll add some more though.

    best PvP: DaoC

    best GUI: WoW

    Best quests: AO mission system

I think WAR is going to be the new pioneer in PvP though, I just wish they hadn't axed Imperator to do it.

The old days are gone, risk is being taken out of the market due to the cost of making MMORPGs.  It'll take someone not afraid of risky investments to create the true next-gen.

What greater tribute to free will than the power to question the highest of authority? What greater display of loyalty than blind faith? What greater gift than free will? What greater love than loyalty?
