It looks like Lost Ark may not come to EU and NA in 2020 after all, despite Smilegate stating last year that the game may hit EU and NA someday.

True. Not sure why everyone hyped this game, without even proper Western release in place. Game looks like another failed MMO called Mu Legends.

They are going to wait until it dies in other countries and then bring it to USA in 5-6 years to milk us on a dead game.

Well then that is very disappointing because then there is almost no point in them ever releasing it in the NA/EU at all with D4, POE2, and Torchlight coming. Plus NCsoft claiming project TL is coming this year. Then there's Wolcen and Corepunk...The ARPG market will be full of potentially incredible new-generation ARPG's. Lost Ark will be dated.

You can play russian Lost Ark servers for free with a VPN and English translation patch.

As an avid ARPG fan - this game was a huge letdown, mostly due to really boring end game gearing - linear gear that requires running the same dungeons as nauseam.

I dont think this game would do well in NA nor EU longterm due to sucky end game.

But if you want to play through once to max level just to see the game - vpn to russian servers and give it a try

    so a normal MMO gameplay

well you guys can wait for 7 year right? phantasy star online 2 will launch this year on NA so

Pay to progress, I hate that crap, but entirely too many online games are using it these days (I blame Warframe for that). Then entirely too many people swear that it's perfectly fine, and may even claim the games that use it have the fairest profit model of any online game. Oh, and they also always say "well they have to make money some how," yeah, whatever happened to selling cosmetics, modest, but not excessive boosters, or other such things that have minimal impact on game play?

What happens all too often with games that use it is you either get your stuff through playing the game, but have to basically no-life playing for months past the mid game portion, or you open your wallet, and get everything you want in maybe just a few hours. Instant jump to a high level, or even level cap, maybe they'll sell XP directly, buy all your gear, or the materials to make/upgrade it, and so on. Then some will also tie the player market to the cash shop currency as well, which is BS.

Unfortunately, the endgame is indeed quite similar to Mu Legend.
Both games pretended to be open world'ish MMOs until you hit endgame. Then you are basically locked into a single room with a number of time-gated daily activities ("homework") and nothing else to do.

Lost Ark really has the endgame mechanics of a mobile MMO, which is a damn shame.

Outside of amazing leveling dungeons design - there is nothing terribly exciting about the game. It has the least fun combat I've seen during 2019. I've lost patience around level 45 (out of 50) and uninstalled it. I bet their year(s)-long delay is linked to the development process, not to translation: most likely devs want to make the game actually interesting past few hours, they don't want to fail EU/NA release with the current half-baked state of the product.

People probably don't buy them, at least not on-mass, especially for a new game.... i.e. why pay $20 for a fancy hat in a game you have no attachment to and are likely only going to play for a month?

My guess is monetisation has had to get more aggressive simply to force more players into paying up earlier. The irony is of course that the more aggressive the monetisation the more players are going to leave once they hit the pay wall, and the less potential players are even going to look at the game in the first place.

As for Lost Ark, the gameplay looked cool, but if it's just another pay-to-win grinder then no big loss - and it's not like 2020 is lacking for (hopefully) quality games at a fixed price.

can you imagine a more unfulfilling job in the videogame industry ?
    quest translator for an mmorpg.
you translate text that 99% of the playerbase will just ignore and skip but your role is mandatory despite being almost useless and on top of that you are responsible for the delay of every asian mmo release in NA/EU.

Well that is disappointing. However i wont complain too much because it looks like there will be plenty of games coming in 2020 to occupy my time.

How long would it take for localization? It been 4 years. C’mon you company just lazy and knowing game is not good enough for Western audience
  • RidrithRidrith Member RarePosts: 859
Looking forward to when they bring the game over here and let these poor saps buy 200 dollar "collectors" editions only to kill the game a year later. LET'S GET ANOTHER BLESS GOING! I still remember going into the Bless discord and somebody bragging about buying six collectors editions for their guild members. Boy, talk about a waste of money.
I like to complain about games.

On Netflix they regularly provide recent shows from Germany, Spain, France and elsewhere, all well dubbed in English.

Localization really isn't as difficult as these gaming companies make it out to be.

This game will be outdated before it releases at EU/US. Best to just forget it ever existed... it will fail at that point even if its not that bad.

I will do this now! I mean..I saw plenty of game play footage, streamers, etc, but I really want to see it for myself.

I have not much faith in this game however, as it looks kinda generic!

I have played it for a few days now and it was a huuuuge letdown for me after everything good i have been reading the last 2 years... Very generic and a bit clunky, typical Korean mmo, run to base get 2 quest, kill x amount of mobs or collect som flowers, return and go to next base, rince and repeat... nothing new, nothing spectacular...

And ofcourse they have to have those huge weapons and wings/Angels/Demons as usual in Korean/Asian mmo's :) By now after sooo many games they just make my skin crawl lol
