What is it with hate for this game that didn't even release yet nor charge anyone money? Why are so many of you actively bashing it even on Steam?

Just curious here. In fact I will buy it and try it for myself. If it sucks there is always a refund.

No fate but what we make, so make me a ham sandwich please.

MIght be something with its pet system, it seems its all little kids/halfnaked girls. maybe with a more gritty theme i might be interested, but i cant stand staring anymore at half naked ladies with heavy armour stats, i dont know why most eastern games do this. this is just my thoughts though.

Boring asian mmo gameplay with added combat pets that look and feel wierd to play with half of them looking like lolitas. It was just mix of wierd and boring experience for me when they had free login days.

The internet has become a breeding ground for toxicity and its contagious as hell because 90% of these people dont even voice their own opinions based on their own experiences, its all regurgitated crap.

Not saying this game is good or not because I havent played it, I only ever read it was to feel classic but there are definitely some interesting mechanics that I see people liking. Tons of people like pet systems. Like someone else pointed out there are half naked characters so that is gona attract a whole nother set of people.

Anyway if they want this MMO to stay alive they have to put it in different stores.

It's not that the game is bad, it's that the game isn't good. It just is. The pet system doesn't work that well, the combat is uninspired, and the world is mostly sterile, even if it is pretty.

This game could be Bless with pets added. It could be good, but there is a disconnect with how these eastern game studios build status quo MMOs, and how western audiences perceive them. Most just don't do very well. This is no exception.

This won't do well long term. Unless things change drastically, which they rarely if ever do, it may shut down in a couple years, and steams population stats will be a good indicator of what trends you can expect from the in-game player base. Within 6 months, if it still has 1000 people, I'd consider that a win.

They did charge money, you had to buy into it to play it prior to the steam release.

I personally thought it was an okay game. It felt like Bless but with less optimization issues. My major gripes came from the vast amount of different advancement systems they have and that they throw at you all at once. You can enhance your gear to higher levels like most Korean games, but then you have crystals you can have a % chance to infuse your stats within a certain range, you have crystals that improve your astelles, crystals that improve your gear, and runes that do something else i cannot remember off the top of my head. It just felt like they wanted to throw every possible advancement system at you and it just didn't work.

The astelle system or the little girls as everyone keeps calling them, isn't nearly as creepy as people make it out to be (I'm not completely dismissing it though, it is a bit weird and I don't know why they went with little girl pets). Sometimes they say weird things but in general they are just something that is around you that attacks, and you can kind of ignore it (other than switching them occasionally).

Western audience in my opinion has "twisted" expectations about their "dream" MMORPG. They all want free to play game, no cash shop, no pay for convenience , no RPG elements (please, if something has loot, it has RNG elements), good story line, good combat, good character creation (like BDO), etc. Basically, everything has to be free but game must be like AAA quality with nothing on cash shop except cheap cosmetic and they expect the game to have frequent updates without providing them any financial support, just want a game for granted. There are reasons why great games like Lost Ark or Blade and Soul would not come to the West until 4-5 years later (and people sure complain about it). The West is the least wanted region to publish the game.
Also no game is perfect, game like Astellia may have elements that you do not like or hate but it does not mean that the whole game is trash, especially those who have not even played it. Things that you hate may be appealing to others. I played it and agree that it is not great, but still a decent game to kill time. Not defending any game but nowadays people just love to complain and not be happy with any game

The game released around the end of last September.  As a launched game, they do charge money for it.  You have a choice of $30 buy to play or a $10/month subscription.  And yes, that's "or", not "and".  Think of $30 as being a lifetime subscription.  They also offer a two-week refund policy.

As for the hate, you'd have to ask the people constantly denouncing the game.  My best guess it that people see it was made in South Korea and assume that it has everything that they've ever hated about other Korean-made games.  There actually isn't much in the game itself that will make you think it was made in Korea.

Some of the astels are half naked (e.g., Glacier or Grimoire), and while not human, to the extent that they look somewhat human, could pass for 30.  Some other astels look like young girls (e.g., Kukuma), but more appropriately clothed, even if their clothing generally doesn't look like armor, in the sense that the clothes you're wearing right now probably don't look like armor.  And some astels are male, not female.  For that matter, some astels look older and heavily armored, such as Venecia.  With the Internet being what it is, some people shorten "some astels are half naked and some other astels are young girls" to "the astels are half naked girls".

The basic art theme seems to be that the weaker "servant" astels look young, while the stronger "guardian" and "savior" astels look older.  A lot of astels are named for constellations (in keeping with the game's lore), and the astel artwork is some anthropomorphic character based on what the real-life constellation supposedly looks like.  For example, Pisces is a fish (which reminds me of a murloc), and Capricorn is a goat.

No, it's not a bad game, but again, it isn't a good one, at best it's a generic one with 1 trope that is supposed to be its main draw, and it's done poorly. Very poorly.

For what it's worth, I think the game is reasonably good, but it's hardly a great game.  The storyline is actually pretty good, but it won't seem that way until you get to Tulie and it explains a bunch of things that you've already seen.  And even then, it will only make sense if you've been paying attention up to that point.

It's tab-target combat, though somewhat more active than your average tab-target MMORPG.  E.g., the combat is more active than WoW or FFXIV.  It's very quest-based.  The translation was pretty bad at launch but has since been fixed.

Astels are a huge part of the game, so if you don't like pet systems, you won't like the game.  If you do like pet systems, though, it probably has the best pet system of any MMORPG, ever.  In some boss fights, I've had to pull out 4 or 5 different astels over the course of a two-minute fight.

The game also makes exploration into a major game mechanic via Star's Tale, and with substantial rewards.  You can ignore it if you don't like it, or you can look up exactly where everything is.  But it does at minimum encourage you to pay attention as you move around in the game world.

This sounds like Aura Kingdom which I always thought didn't get enough credit for what it was (and IMHO the only playable game that Aeria ever released). Gotta try it at least

I played the beta and ejoyed the game. Only issue I have is with the price. If it were f2p, i'd play it daily. Or even if it was B2P with a price around 9.99 or 11.99 I'd pay happily. But the price is too high and it's not F2P..so..

it still have a problem, a f2p game, who become a B2p only here to NA, sorry for a game who is just meh, asking to pay for it is already too much

What exactly is your idea of a "generic Korean" game?  I've played quite a few Korean-made MMOs, and Astellia doesn't have much in common with most of them.

Literally the only thing I've seen in the game that made me think "Korean" was that you get a grade upon finishing a dungeon, and S is a higher grade than A for some inexplicable reason.  But Dauntless does that, too, and that's not a Korean game.

The only other thing that I've seen that made me think it was a foreign game is that the voiceovers commonly don't match the text, as they're independent translations of the original.  If not for that, it could plausibly pass for an American-made game.

So what is my idea of a "generic Korean MMO" that many other Korean games I've played would have and Astellia doesn't?

-"free to play" with a heavy reliance on an item mall
    -loot boxes
-pay for extra inventory space in order to have enough
-heavily pay to win at the top end
-open world, non-consensual PVP where other people can gank you
-Korean text in various places that isn't translated into English
-English language text accompanied by Korean voiceovers
-lobby as the shared area with most of the real content in instanced dungeons
-over the top, flashy skill animations
-play as a particular character, not a class, with virtually no character creation options

Now, not all Korean imports have most or all of those, but they seem to be common among Korean-made MMOs that get imported to the West.  Astellia has none of them.  Astellia's mechanics have more in common with World of Warcraft than with Atlantica, Elsword, Kritika, Aura Kingdom, Vindictus, Dragon Nest, Riders of Icarus, Closers, SoulWorker, TERA, Aion, Black Desert, or Maple Story 2.

Astellia has almost nothing in common with Aura Kingdom.  If you look from a distance and squint, and don't actually play either game, then Astellia's astels sound kind of like Aura Kingdom's eidolons.  But in practice, it's a totally different system.

Astellia gives you a bar with eight astels at a time that all level up with you, and it's expected that you'll often have two out and active at a time.  In easy content, you might just keep one astel out with you and not really try to use the optimal tactics because it's more work.  But in some challenging areas, you'll pretty much have to swap out astels a lot in the middle of battle.

I explain the astel system in a lot of detail here:

Just curious here. In fact I will buy it and try it for myself. If it sucks there is always a refund.

If you can find out if you like ir ot not with in 2 hours sure, The game is prob one of the most generic vanilla korean mmos that have come here
The game has a number of innovations that I thought were interesting and had not seen before.

    1)  Slots on skillbars let you stack up to four skills, so that you can use four skills in a rotation just by pressing the same button repeatedly.  This isn't that important on a keyboard, but on a controller, it's a huge deal.  It's the primary reason why among MMORPGs where you use a lot of different skills on a skillbar, Astellia is probably the most controller-friendly ever.  That comparison pointedly excludes games like Elsword or Neverwinter where you have few skills on a bar.

    2)  Crafted gear and boss drop gear are exactly the same items.  For purple or better gear, you need a particular boss drop item (that isn't the full gear itself) to craft the item.  Purple or better gear that drops directly is bind on pickup, but when crafted, is bind on equip instead.  Thus, crafting is useful enough for a significant fraction of top end gear to be crafted, but you can still ignore it if you don't like it without being crippled.

    3)  If you enhance gear that isn't max level up to the maximum enhancement level (usually +7), you can then raise the level of the gear at the expense of removing the enhancement.  This is easy to do, as enhancement is guaranteed to succeed except on gear that is at the level cap.  Thus, a lucky purple drop that you get from an early dungeon can remain valuable to you all the way up to the level cap, though you'll surely replace it shortly after hitting the cap.

    4)  Voiceovers predominantly happen with characters talking on a sidebar while you go out and play the game.  In other MMORPGs that have lengthy voiceovers, they typically seem to be structured such that you have to either skip them or wait and do nothing while an NPC reads a wall of text to you very slowly.

    5)  You get a full speed mount for free at level 1.  This seems like such a simple, obvious thing to do in a game with mounts, but I can't think of another MMORPG that does.  How many games make you wait until you're higher level to get a mount, or buy one from a cash shop, or give you a crippled version early that you want to replace as soon as possible?

Are those enough to make a game great?  Of course not.  But there are a lot of places where the developers obviously put some real thought into how to design things rather than just trying to copy what someone else did.  That's true of many games, of course, including a lot of bad games.  But it's not just a generic clone.
