Release date for the expansion?

ElgaricElgaric Member Posts: 4

Okay yes the Drenai are the new race and flying mounts socketed weapons Loving that idea,  all good stuff, but i have been scouring various sites and reports from e3 and have yet to see a mention of a release date, was just wondering if anyone has seen it, the last I heard for a release date was 4 quarter 2006.

Whilst I enjoy WOW alot and have played it longer than any other MMO (save swg *shudders and weeps at a mess*) I still dable in eq2. I'm just afraid that WOW will nto have the legs to last until Sept before people start to desert it and it will be a victim of its own success.

The added content is good and they are keeping a stteady stream of it, but there is vbery little content for for the solo player, they seem to be getting left behind I love a raid as much as the next guy/girl but I also like to do abit on my own, and one of the major points of WOW was the soloable content. Yes PVP is the end game for most and raiding but alot of my friends tend to solo and they well getting abit bored with the same ole same ole with content.

So as you can see why I'm eager to see if any of you know of a release date as this is coming across now as a slight of hand from the marketing people as a distraction tactic, please have a look at our shiney new bauble but thats all your getting, a great furore around the new races etc and we are again six months ago at blizzcon again (anyone remeber the blood elves?). Yes I under stand these take alot of time to prepare ,etc ,etc but I believe that blizzard would do better to annouce a firm(ish) date for the expansion so at least we can have the usual count down frenzy that we all know love and enjoy :)

So as you can see not a flame or anything to set off a major rant by anyone just a genuine concern.

Have fun All

If the weekend server queue on Lothar is any indication, I'm pretty sure it will last through September. There has been a lot of buzz on the PvP forum boards about "the end of PvP" due to the release of Warhammer in 2007, but I don't really PvP so I'm not quite sure what they are all whining about.

No matter what happens Blizzard seems to just be totaly incapable of acting fast, no mmorpg goes on for almost 2 years of no expansion and expect to keep it's customers, i wonder when all this predetrmined content they add with their patches finishes and the expansion has not yet hit the shelves how do they expect to keep competitive?

All mmorpg's out there today who are even slightly succesfull have at least one major expansion introduced each year, with the most succesfull having 2 each year, On the official EU-WoW site ETA for Burning Legion is Decmber of 2006, if they actually do it then it will be about 20 months of not having an expansion.

Not ot mention that with no new classes introduced even this expansion falls short of what i expect from expansions to introduce to re-kindle interest.

I would rather wait for a well-thought out...semi-bugless expansion....than to have them throw a big steaming POS expansion on our plate and tell us to eat it....A-LA- SOE!

Well that is a matter of personal prefrence tbh, i on the other hand prefer to play something and not just sit and wait, and if i am forced to change from playing WoW to playing something else any chances of returning back are very slim.

And anyway they are selling and i am buying if they can't produce fast enough good enough they should try some other line of work.

According to the recent battle plan, number 3, WoW continues to GROW, not decline, not just in the far east but the US and EU. Why is a mystery to me. You have to be seriously casual to take more than 6 months to reach level 60, I did it in 4, 2-3 hours per night. Once at 60 the game becomes ALL about raiding or faction grinding, in increasingly larger groups. Whilst SOME solo small group end game content has been added recently the end game is STILL largely about raiding.

At level 60 I got bored, because I didn't want to raid every night. But my 3 month sub had 2 months left to run. So I made an alt and played til my sub ran out, last september. Since then I've seen NOTHING to pull me back.

So, if you are casual (play time wise) you'll run out of game in 4-6 months, unless you play an hour now and then, and some do. So what keeps them playing, when the content runs out? I don't know. Maybe they are playing loads of alts?

Maybe NEW players are now in WoW, but how many NEW players can you keeping attracting? It seems the river of new players shows no sign of running dry just yet.

Or perhaps I'm wrong. Perhaps the VAST majority of players currently playing are high level and raiding and loving it. Who knows. Those that are casual and quit, like me, are just a minority? Whatever, WoW has grown not declined, thus Blizzard feels no need to rush out content when it is not losing customers at a particularly alarming rate.

I loved WoW, great content and hugely soloable; I soloed, duo'd with guildies, small grouped, and raided, on occassions. I played PvP, duels, outdoor raids, when they existed and BGs, and had imense fun. But the end game was just that, the end.

When the expansion arrives I may buy it, make an alt, and play through the game again, taking as long as possible to reach max. Until then...

Officially at E3 they said they will try to get the expansion out before end of the year, but it might get pushed in 2007.

Yes, Blizzard is slow, it tooke them good 5+ years to make WoW  while, for example, SoE took 3-4 for EQ2 and Mythic is taking 3 for WAR.

But that's how they work, slowly but surely.

Considering they said the expansion will completely change gameplay for all classes level 40+ AND reintroduce World PvP, it seems good enough to me. (not to speak of all the rest of the stuff they announced).

Like was mentioned previously I was hoping for some new classes.  It does seem strange that it would take that long for just two new races with the same classes we already have.  I realize there are a lot of other changes being implemented but they announced the expansion back in October.

I do agree with what was said about SOE, the expansion slamming that they do just makes me never want to play another game they are behind.  They slam you with expansions and never fix what they break.  Just to get that almighty dollar out of thier subscribers the expansions come out like candy.

blizzard has 5 million subscribers worldwide.  if they lose a few, do you really think they care?  they have made more than any mmorpg in total revenue, and are still getting more subscribers every day.  blizzard isnt going anywhere, and a delayed expansion isnt going to ruin them.  itll be released  sometime before christmas, expect that.

No one is predicting the demise of  WoW anythime soon. It is too bad that so much potential success, or rather the potential to retain larger numbers of long time players, has been lost because of the slow as molasses expansion progress.

Another thing that has killed them in the retention field is that pretty much all new content since launch has been end game content. I'd bet at least half of their long term player base has gone the "many character, replay value" route to extend their interest in the game, but there has been zero new content for these players who have no interest in raids and endless instance runs.

PvP and battlegrounds are fun, but the honour system is just more rewards for the end game, grind crowd. Better than nothing, but more lost potential.
