BDM vs Villagers and Heroes

Correcting it from BDO to BDM so others don't get lost in the weeds.

I can't help but despair at how far gaming has fallen in terms of going down the slippery slope of onerous monetization models, especially in mobile games.

I mean, here is a comparison of BDM vs Villagers and Heroes over on MassivelyOP....no, not about their gameplay, but which game has the shittier cash shop model.

It was helpful though, reaffirmed my decision to play neither.

    Well, to be fair,

The article is about BDM, not BDO. I don't know how the cash shops differ, if at all. But BDO and BDM are not the same game on just different platforms.

This is why I always say "its me against all of you"..... You all seem to stick up for cash shops and and games made for five year olds. You people are the problem.

Both are mobile games, that does for the cash shop what Jack the Ripper did for an evenings walk in the East End.

But seriously I think we need yearly cash shop reviews for all the main MMOs. There was one from the staff on here recently and it was a more professional review than the one on Massively. More of the same would be really helpful.

Sigh. Point taken, but that wasn't my point at all.

It was the comparison of the two games cash shops as a focus piece with the purpose of determining which had the poorest monetization model before any sort of gameplay review, which at least for mobile MMOs seems to be the most important thing to understand before all else.

Think about how sad your idea sounds, 15 years ago you would have never suggested this site run a comparison of monetization models.

More often these days its become one of the first or more important things to know about before even considering whether to play a game.

I don't know about the villager game but you should defo give bdo a try
you don't need to spend any money unless you want to be in the top 1% elite which money doesn't guaranty you get anyway in this game
Well I've been looking for a decent mobile MMO to play which doesn't have an onerous cash shop model, looks like the search will continue.

As for BDO, will have to pass for several "reasons," one being I lack self control and patience when it comes to items of convenience, and know I would spend far too much too quickly to obtain maximum level pets, tents, storage space, leveling boosts, a few stat enhancing costumes etc even though I wouldn't be chasing PVP at all.

Even when MMOs went to cash shops it was not hard to tell what was P2W, but over the years MMOs have adopted revenue models which hide not just the P2W but how much anything really costs. Loot boxes are the sort of model you would expect a gambling treasure game to adopt not a MMO or the like. The level of obfuscation they go to, hiding what you are paying as opposed to just paying a subscription like we used to is extraordinary. In some MMOs you cannot even find a sum of what you have spent so far, you have to add up monthly spending to see, they really don't want you to realise how much it is.

I was going to say the same thing. Nice of the OP judging a game he never even played. To me that's even a bigger problem.

Lulz... who was judging a game, my OP was bemoaning MassivelyOPs article comparing cash shop models between two games and they decided one was worse than another.

Its like some don't even read what is written.

But for the record, I often do judge games I've  never played.

One does not need to actually taste shit to know it's not good for you.

Kind of reading this thread and wondering why it matters ? People like all kinds of games, and with having a life makes it hard to get game time. Sometime it is just the thrill of looking at some colors and pushing a few button that could be a game changer in a positive way in people lives.

This over the top negativity in these forums in over the past few months is becoming redundant.
I agree 100 pct. People can cry all they want about cash shops, but people do like them. Its obvious, cause they exist. People need to stop throwing their ideas of cash shops being trash. THats of their own opinion and as far as the world is concerned, its acceptable to have these type of shops.

People and their high horses, its insane. Just cause you do not like something doesn't make it bad.

We are the problem? Cause you do not like something? I think your missing something here. You are not forced to play any of these games at all, so why try and force your beliefs for them?

Because this is an issue of variety of choice, not making a genre one way, from one template for both gameplay and revenue model. We know elements of gameplay that worked better in the past or would work better in a hybrid form with what we have now. But that case is even truer for revenue models, cash shops changed how MMOs designed gameplay. MMOs were originally deigned on the principles of gaming, roleplaying and massive multiplayer. Now they have one overriding design principle, to be a fruit/slot machine.
