There has been some direct communication, discussing "game elements" rather than the "this week Fred did a belt buckle". (The hard bit is finding something different to talk about once a month say but there are several obvious topics to start with.)
And there is a schedule - albeit only a 90 days to do list. They now need to cross things off as they finish them and add new ones going forward. Its not necessary for them to finish everything on the list; what is essential is that they show "progress".
At the end of the day it the only people who might be "bothered" that CU has been going on - almost but not yet - 7 years are backers who have been with the game for however many years. For others its all about: what does it look like now and does there track record suggest that if "I" decide to back the game they will deliver in a time frame that "I" can live with.
And as it stands they don't have a track record. Why the "to do" list that hopefully becomes something more is a key element.
Always assuming that people "like" what they are making.
To that end maybe they start "packaging" what they are offering. Do a "promotional booklet" for want of a better term for each of the character classes for example. Its what TV and films do; car showrooms, toasters and coffee makers as well. Yes they can have hundreds of siege weapons launching stuff but .... so what if it doesn't "look good". And that is a divide, I think, that needs to be bridged.
So a new start - maybe. If CU can survive the meltdown of last week it will probably be stronger for it. For so CU has been annonymous.
Starts usually don't happen after 7 years.
I have no idea how long an engine takes to make. Even projects rolling in money like Star Citizen are coming along slowly so this might be par for the course. Can we really point to other similar projects and say nah-ah.
This looks so crappy. It is about time that Marc refunds his backers. There has been another similar Developer who could not stand his lies anymore, but he is no more...
He's always made refunds available, but backers to have to request and provide transaction ID to claim.

You know when it was announced that a stream was going to be shown of their siege i was like finally! This is it we are going to see some awesome footage. It was flatter then a can of soda open all day.
I dont understand, 10 years ago it felt like mmorpgs were being released every week. Now it feels like mmorpgs are infinitely in development. What dynamic has changed that makes it near impossible to make an mmorpg?

The money went away. Everyone lost their shirt trying and failing to copy WoW, so the publishers moved on to more profitable game types. Most of the games we got in years past were in development for a long time before we ever heard about them, so the wait was never very long. With indie games backed by Kickstarter funding, we get to see every step of the process, and there's a very definite fatigue as a result.
The game companies need to adjust. They need to focus on making games that are smaller in scope, and that cost less time and money to make. Get something smaller out the door and make it profitable, then add on. They need to make use of the tools that already exist instead of reinventing the wheel, like CU is trying to do. So much time and money is spent on engineering, on the building of the tools required to build the game. The less tools they need to build, the quicker and cheaper they can build the games.
Most people, I believe, don't care and have no idea how long something has been in production. (Certainly true for films, TV etc.).
A bigger concern, imo, is whether they have been working on "the right stuff".
And whether some of their effort: - will simply bump up against limits resulting from stuff like - as you say - multiple different input lags etc. - be overtaken by the advance of brute force computing power.
Time for a refund, folks. The balls on MJ are massive, this man has taken your money and played with it as he sees fit. Incredible. Unfortunately his little fantasy will not be funded with my money any longer. The siege footage is the same thing he's been showing since 2018, they haven't changed the UI or graphics at all, unbelievable.
F**K this guy. Seen the gravy train Crowdfunded would give. All these crowdfunded mmorpgs are either so far behind and/or not anywhere near what was promised.

so a siege tech demo is the best they have to show after 7yrs of dev?
For a small team building an engine from scratch it seems reasonable. Pantheon is using unity and in a similar state of incompleteness.
Maybe. It doesn't say much for Mark Jacobs, though, that they're seven years in with no end in sight. What was the original release estimate? Two or three years from the Kickstarter? Was he lying to us all from the beginning, or just that incompetent? Either way, why should backers have any confidence in him going forward?
I thought that there would never be an MMO I'd wait for longer than Darkfall Online, but here I am. I deserve a good bitchslap honestly. At least Darkfall provided a fun forum community during it's development.

It's starting to feel like your motive is now based more on selling your game engine's achievements more so than an actual game that was promised at the beginning of your Kickstarter campaign.
Probably right. As I also said. This is why the single player game, with only feature of player combatting huge waves of enemies - in other words, the thing the engine does.
I think the Collosus will be the swan song. I think the backers will get Collosus for free. And thats about it.

Well, they've been in beta for quite awhile now, but release date, 2022 isn't an unreasonable guess.

I suspect this game still isn't going to see a Beta for another decade.

Time will tell but .... yeah.
It’s mission is to make sure, nobody else has one, unless everything anyone says it’s scientifically proven and cross checked by the experts.
