Hi,
I am a student (12th grade) from germany and I have to write a work about MMORPGs.
In this case I have to do some interviews, so I thought this would be the best place to do this
1. Do you find it easier to make friends in an online game than in real life?
2. Did you ever have problems in your real life because of an online game you were playing or have you ever canceled a real life appointment because of an online game?
3. Do you talk with your friends you know via internet about real life things and intimate things as well?
4. Would you think that it is a big loss when a friend of yours quits the game?
5. Are you happier about your virtual life than about your real life?
Ok I know that this are only some common questions, but I really need some individual answers.
I will be very grateful for every answer! If you want to stay anonymous you can send me an email
to paedant@aol.com
I will only use your answers for my work, and it will not be published, and of course I will change the names.
Comments
1) Not particularly. At least lately. But then, between work and family, I do not have much time to seek out for friends, mostly i keep the ones i have.
2)I can't say I did, but my friends all did cancel some meetings with me for some Tabletop RPGs because they had to raid molten core or onyxia, but i suppose that should be in their own interview
3)Well, I don't have any internet friends at the moment, but that's how i got to know my wife, trough Ultima Online, so You can say "yeah, i do".
4)Considering I myself change game every 3-4 months, no. is not a big loss.
5)No, I'm much happier about my real life than my "virtual" life.

1. Do you find it easier to make friends in an online game than in real life
1. I do find it easier to make friends on the internet, this is because I am not a social person in real life.
2. Did you ever have problems in your real life because of an online game you were playing or have you ever canceled a real life appointment because of an online game?
2. Well, there has been times that I would rather stay home and play a game then go to an appointment, or a special occasion, but I have problems in life, I turn to online games to pretty much keep my mind off those problems, I find online games really fun to play, it passes the time, and I really do believe it helps.
3. Do you talk with your friends you know via internet about real life things and intimate things as well?
3. Sometimes, not always, It would depend on what subject we were on, but it's usually games, or something else.
4. Would you think that it is a big loss when a friend of yours quits the game?
4. Not always, but I have some friends that I met on a game, and they have played with me though a ton of games, I have known them for quite awhile, we talk over skype, if they were to not come on anymore, I think it would be a big loss.
5. Are you happier about your virtual life than about your real life?
5. I guess my Real Life is alright, I am having problems, but I do find Online Games abit more interesting at the moment.
I hope these answers helped you
1. Do you find it easier to make friends in an online game than in real life?
Yes. I'm autistic, and I find communication and socialisation in RL very difficult. I feel that text is much easier, and in a way more clear and expressive, partly because one can re-read earlier parts of a conversation, and there can be no mis-hearings (I hate having to repeat myself or ask others to repeat what they said IRL).
2. Did you ever have problems in your real life because of an online game you were playing or have you ever canceled a real life appointment because of an online game?
Yes. I tend to procrastinate things IRL in favour of playing. I'm admittedly escapist, avoiding RL problems by immersing myself in the game.
3. Do you talk with your friends you know via internet about real life things and intimate things as well?
Yes.
4. Would you think that it is a big loss when a friend of yours quits the game?
Yes, if I'm unable to keep in contact with them any other way.
5. Are you happier about your virtual life than about your real life?
Yes.

1. Do you find it easier to make friends in an online game than in real life?
Depends on the game. I don't feel confortable enough with strangers to make friendships with
them over 1 or 2 game sessions/encounters. I need haphazard, repetitive
interaction until I am confortable enough to consider them my friends.
If the game is solo-oriented, I tend to interact much less regularly with the same players, so it's hard to make friendships. There are other games which induce more group activity, or require a player to stick to an area for longer periods of time and so it creates habituation/confort with other palyers and eventually friendships do form. I do not join guilds, I don't like "crash-introductions" into a group, so I avoid them.
2.
Did you ever have problems in your real life because of an online game
you were playing or have you ever canceled a real life appointment
because of an online game?
Yes. I was out of a job for over a year and seriously addicted to an MMO for about 10 months of that period. I played average of 14-16hrs daily and did nothing but wake up, play, eat once or twice, and play again till I couldn't stay up any longer. Needless to say my job searching effort was non-existent.
3. Do you talk with your friends you know via internet about real life things and intimate things as well?
U mean mmo friends only, right? Some I do, the ones I feel more aligned with in an ideological way.
4. Would you think that it is a big loss when a friend of yours quits the game?
Depends on how involved in the game u are. If u aren't much into the game as well, and can also drop the game, then you both can just find another game, etc. However, when u can't quit the particular game, it's as if someone had died sometimes.
5. Are you happier about your virtual life than about your real life?
Again, it depends on how good and immersive the game is. If the game meets all of my satisfaction standards.... Let's see... real life has the following: global warming, massive environmental disruption, famine, terrorism, religious fanaticism, a pervasive economic system based on selfishness and material possessions, sporadic and persistent war spots abound all over the planet...

Good luck with ur assignment!
